openLast Altruistic Thought Anime
Character does a Heroic Sacrifice to shield or push someone from mortal danger. Just as they're about to die, their last thought is "I'm glad X is okay" to remind us that their own safety is the last thing on their mind.
Seriously, I feel this pattern has a become a cliché at this point.
openOnyx Equinox Anime
A young Aztec boy is saved from death by the gods and chosen to act as ‘humanity’s champion,’ forced to discard his apathy toward his fellow man and prove humanity’s potential in a fight that spans across fantastical-yet-authentic Mesoamerican cultures.
openThat trope where someone wakes up a character by jumping on them? Anime
Do we have a trope here were a character, usually a girl, wakes up another character in some crazy way like by jumping on them and kicking them on the stomach or something like that? I see this a lot in anime especially but I can't seem to find a trope page about it.
openHacking from another universe Anime
Is there a trope for a character able to create a device where it hacks into anything from another universe?
openDevolves to Lazers Anime
The longer a show with a ki/life energy/whatever system goes on, the more likely it is for the fighting to break down into hurling flashy energy attacks at each other due to power creep.
openSupposedly normal person reveals to have powers Anime
Basically someone confronts a person with the expectation they are a normal joe, maybe with some fighting experience. But suddenly that person is throwing fireballs/dodges inhumanly fast/levitates a large object/etc. This is a world where the supernatural and superpowers are a thing, to clarify.
openA sad character grows mushrooms on their head Anime
Sometimes in Anime a sad or depressed character will not only spot a gloomy look on their face, but they will also spot some mushrooms on their head.
It's mostly in Anime and Visual Novels where I have seen this.
openover powered but has terminal illness Anime
a character is very powerful and could defeat the main villain if they're on the good guy's side and if they're not they could easily defeat the protagonist if it weren't for that pesky terminal illness they have. they will be shown spitting/coughing up blood from time to time and in their final fight they will be shown about to win only for them to die of their illness. itachi from naruto, whitebeard from one piece and to an extant Goku's heart disease prior to the arrival of the androids.
openGod fails, humans win? Anime
Is there such a trope for this:
- A human-looking god decides to make the public suffer via pestilence and then a storm, but the humans somehow manage to work together and defy the god's expectations that everyone will just be a lazy species. The god failed at his expectation of trying to get the humans to be discordant and turn on each other.
What sort of trope relating to gods is there for this?
Edited by Merseyuser1openCharacterization trope for important character? Anime
Is there such a trope for this:
- During the Story Arc of the season, there's a volcanic eruption and an earthquake, and an important character, a geologist, joins the team, but compared to the main characters, he doesn't have any backstory and is only there for the purposes of the story arc, but he's important to it. The geologist gets Character Development, but not much compared to the protagonist.
Is there such a trope for "functional character, but vital to the plot"?
and for this example for Live Action TV:
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.:
- Snowflake, one of Sarge's Squad, the antagonists of Season 6, is important to the plot, but unlike the other antagonists Sarge and Jaco, she has virtually no backstory to speak of, and seems to be a de facto Mook who only seems to be there in a functional role as the Evil Counterpart to Daisy. Her only other role seems to be Ms. Fanservice.
What sort of trope for this example, "member of gang is important to plot, but has no backstory as compared to the rest, but still important"?
Edited by Merseyuser1openFiller episode has important thing but it's only small? Anime
Do we have such a trope for this:
- In a Filler episode of Dragon Ball Super or One Piece, the episode seems to be there just to fill time, but rewatching it again via Rewatch Bonus, an piece of equipment that proves to be important later on shows up in the background as an Easter Egg.
- An episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit seems like Filler, but you'd have to re-watch it to understand that a throwaway remark wasn't actually filler; it was relevant to the season's Myth Arc.
Is it a Chekhov's Gun, or another trope entirely?
openArtifactual... Honorifics? Anime
Is there anything that covers the fact that a character's name, nickname, or in this case, somebody's use of Japanese Honorifics is artifactual due to an in-universe fact? I don't think Artifact Title covers it. The following case comes from UsefulNotes.Japanese Honorifics:
- In Asteroid in Love, Misa, the protagonist Mira's older sister, calls Mira's old friend Ao "Ao-kun," despite Ao being a girl. Since Mira initially thought Ao was a boy, and only realized the truth when they met again at the start of the series, it's possible that Misa was operating under the same assumption.
openA Trope for a Rap That Praises/Shows Love for Something? Anime
So I started watching Meiji Tokyo Renka and discovered the famous electricity rap in episode 6, and I want to upload a video of it here...but I can't seem to find a good trope that it fits under, if one even exists. All the rap tropes I can find are only about dissing, piss-takes, or Gangsta Rap. The rap I'm referring to is just a cute little musical number that talks about all the good things electricity can do, and it doesn't seem like there's a trope about raps that praise/show love for something. But for all I know, I might not be looking hard enough. Does anyone have any ideas?
openStretching Time Anime
Whats it called when one minute lasts for ten, Sports anime like haikyu, hajime no ippo and or eyeshield 21 does this a lot. I was just watching Haikyu, and while the ball was in the air, everyone manages to speak for like a minute before it comes back down! There must be a trope for this!!
openHilarious 'I'm Outta Here' Run Anime
I would've said "Nigerundayou" Run, but I thought that'd be too myopic. (Though in context of the trope, it would form up a Pun)
But basically, it's the kind of run to show that the character is making his escape. Either for tactical retreat, or just plain Screw This, I'm Outta Here moment. However, a serious moment would mean that their hand motion would be played as normal as they run. Maybe hands clenched. Well, this is not that kind of run. This run is often when the situation is Played for Laughs. Hence, the character will bend their elbows on 90 degrees, only moving their arms so it formed like a horse without its front legs (or half of the swastika symbol), and having their palms open like they're about to do a karate chop (only that they don't chop.)
It's one of those quirky run styles like Airplane Arms or Girly Run.
Is there a trope like that?
Edited by ChrisX
Is there a trope for the characters feats to sound so unrealistic that even their closeted friends have a hard time believing him? Feats that he actually succeeded and accomplished in.
