This sounds horrible. Seriously, that's the most generic-ass concept possible for something like this. Why drag Monster Hunter into it if it's just yet another "regular guy finds out he's special and fights evil" plot?
...Oh right, because without the brand name behind it, you can't hide the fact that the premise is boring and unoriginal.
Honestly though, if I had to guess what the "final boss" of a Monster Hunter movie was, my first guess would be a Fatalis. Though those dinky wings would probably look a bit ridiculous on the big screen...
Regardless, I hope that the monsters at least look impressive. Smaug has already set a pretty high bar on impressive-looking dragons.
I would say a good premise would eb a G-Rank guy helping a Low-Rank guy through the Ranks. Sort of Mentor and Student.
And he wasn't even done properly.
Because, you know. WETA doesn't like doing six-limbed dragons.
Still haven't finished Tri. Been stuck trying to take care of the last bit of stuff in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
I just want to kill the Ruler of Fates and the last few enemies and be done with it you know, but I just have to keep grinding and grinding for more and more crap.
One Strip! One Strip!Started Generations. Going with Aerial Hammer, though I'll also want a bladed weapon for when I need those eventually. Not sure what to go with, but I'll decide when I feel like it. Is there a way to control your aerial attacks when you dodge jump, or do you have to rely on luck?
IIRC you point to a direction while up high and then attack.
... And that's called jazz!Anyone have something to say about this person's review of the series?
is there supposed to be a slash before/after every aspostraphe
Eh. Monster Hunter admittedly isn't for everyone. And most of the things that person said are either not true or would be easily solved if they... well... got gud lel
Seriously, now: you can finish many monsters in less than 20 minutes (sub-10 is a thing, after all). Edit: I forgot to mention this is a game that stimulates multiplayer, so there's also that. But, of course, it takes practice. A lot of it.
And there are I-frames upon dodging (there are even skills to raise those frames. Hell, there's superman-diving!). And, while many breaks don't give much advantage, yeah, some of them do (breaking Hermitaur/Ceanataur shells reveals their weakest point, breaking Gypceros' crest stops the flash attacks, True Elder Dragons' horns - Teo/Luna, Kushala and Chameleos -, upon breaking, stop, or used to stop, their camouflage/weather shenanigans, and so on).
Also, while there's admittedly not much of a story, there is a lore behind the eries, but the game doesn't really address it that much, so okay, whatevs. most of us are Just Here for Godzilla, anyway.
In the end, first impressions from someone who didn't enjoy how the game works, and that's understandable (albeit many of the technical parts are full of shit). nd we should probably not take it too seriously (though I probably did, or else I wouldn't be writing this much, lol).

... And that's called jazz!Legit the person needs to git gud and their review is bad because they're bad at the game
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-Maei mean if they'ree that stuck at low rank than they really are bad
i beat the singleplayer game with a Gore Magala glaive that i didnt even max out to the point i could
and without knowing about the Nectar mechanice
While I am a big fan of the Monster Hunter games, I can kind of understand the frustrations that the reviewer has with the games. Some fights do feel like they drag on for a bit longer than they should, and the Desire Sensor can be incredibly annoying at times. That said, I rarely ever find any of the fights boring, and I disagree that there are no characters to care about. Personally, I really care about all the Palicoes working for me.
Also, I really don't like the "Git Gud" mentality that some people have for these games. Telling someone to "Git Gud" is not helpful, and sometimes it feels like certain people that tell others to "Git Gud" are treating the games like some sort of elite club. Personally, I don't think games should be treated as "elite clubs" where certain people are alienated just because they aren't as good in the games. It's a personal belief of mine that games should be about including others, not ostracizing them.
I do agree with you. I usually don't like the git gud mentality and would love that the community was more receptive to newcomers (though I do see a lot of goodwill in some places MH-related).
It should be noted, however, that someone who outright chastises the game without having enough experience to the point of saying things that are not true is pretty unfair IMO. In this case above mentioned, I make an exception, though I understand their frustration. Again, MH is not for everyone, and not in the sense that it's for pros (I myself am a terrible player; MH improved my skill a lot), just that the game is indeed pretty tough and makes design choices that some people don't find appealing, while others do.
... And that's called jazz!i only pull out the "git gud" card when people make it out to be the game's fault and not their own
especially since 3U, 4U, and Generations have been incredibly newbie friendly.
Like, "I'm having trouble with X, I can't seem to beat him despite X, Y, Z". Okay, we can go somewhere and I am willing to help you out.
But not "X is a stupid monster, beat him for me" Or "I'm having trouble with all monsters; and I refuse to change my playstyle or learn anything new and its a bad game because of it". I can't do anything to help because you're not willing to get better.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI have gotten Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for Christmas!
I haven't started it yet. What should I know about before venturing into the game?

Wow, I haven't played this series in a loooong time...
I'm not sure if you're new to the series though? What's your experience with Monster Hunter in general?
- You start a new file with one each of the weapon type, so just experiment until you find one that suits you. You default to Sword and Shield equipped, which is the ideal beginner weapon.
- I'm not sure if it's still available but there's free "DLC" item starter packs from the online shop to get you started.
- The beginning missions are basically one tutorial after another so it takes a while to get to the good hunts.
- You may consider these dudes as skill or equipment gates: Rathian, Gore Magala, Rathalos, Tigrex, Shagaru Magala
That reminds me. I still never got to the Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate DLC at all.
I wonder if it's even still there anymore. I just totally forgot since it always took me so long to build up to the next hunt.
One Strip! One Strip! One thing to note is that the game takes its sweet time giving you exciting quests. This may seem tedious, but it's very important, especially if you're a new player. It gives you the chance to ease into things and know what you're doing before you take on anything too challenging.
Yeah. Especially in Generations. There are lots of gathering quests to do and that gets a little boring when you're aiming for 100% completion. But, at the beginning, it's quite important to gather resources like ores, herbs, insects etc, so yeah.
... And that's called jazz!Malco: I played 3 Ultimate beforehand, finished the game offline and only left a few 8-star Guild missions unfinished. My weapon of choice there was the Switch Axe, of which I managed to craft a large repertoire of types (Stygian Vanagloria, Azure Rosebloom, Brisant Demolisher, Galefrost, Nainokami, Giganceladus, Ceadeed and Mizar's Asterism). The only major axe I was unable to get was the Nether Excellion because.... fuck Abyssal Lagiacrus. I only managed to beat it twice and not alone.
Right now I'm onto the second rank chapter, and I really appreciate how you're now given numerous quests at the start to practice with each type of weapon. That would have been very handy for me in 3U, because I suffered a BIG difficulty curve as I had never played MH beforehand.

So, Reaper decked out in Gore Magala gear anyone? (warning, possibly NSFW ads)
