What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

"Senpai" might be added to the English dictionary.

Senpai is an honorific from Japan that you use to address someone of superior placement than yourself, or to a buddy who you join in a group that he/she is a leader of.

Traditional boomerangs fly a straight path, do not return, and do significant damage to targets.

During a class debate about certain someone who ate the Constitution, my teacher raised that the certain someone did not ate the Constitution because the Constitution did not apply to aliens and illegal aliens.

However, in fact, the Fourteenth Amendment specifically used language that indicates all persons, regardless of citizenship, are protected.

Time Warner Cable as a name brand no longer exists, because the company has merged with Charter, which is now also its owner.

So, I had a vague idea that MC Hammer wasn't technically the One-Hit Wonder we think of him as today, but what I didn't know was that his highest placing single on the Billboard charts wasn't even "U Can't Touch This"; It was "Pray", a song I'd never heard until I recently found a used late-80's/early 90's pop-rap compilation that included it. Other fun facts to be gleaned from that Wikipedia page: It was the first authorized Prince sample, and the lyrics use the word "pray" 147 times in five minutes, setting a record for most Title Drops in an American Top 40 hit.

Just how much a clean-out of a computer can affect its temperature on some platforms.

I'm on a Haswell processor on this one box and I basically gave it a clean out and the processor temperature's dropped by a whopping 20c.

Contrast that with an old Sandy Bridge I had where it was less than 10c.
