Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

There you go.

It's because if they ask you to stop using it and you don't they will report you to the mods, and the mods will force you to take it down, supposedly.

If I wanted an avatar I would just save it and take it, although there are a few (Like Emeriin's) that are too large to save onto your gallery and you need them sent to you.

Because apparently you can copyright them when you crop them to 100x100 in MS Paint. </snark>

^^ Hey! I've recently started cropping them to 100 x 100 in FastStone, not Paint!

There's also the fact that sharing the avatar with the avatar-sharing system means only one copy exists on the server, not two.

If each person only had the avatars they used, it wouldn't make much of a difference, but some people want huge galleries.

I use GIMP in order to shrink as well as crop smoothly. It does not always work as well as one would hope, sadly.

Are Troper Pages supposed to have Quote Sub Pages?

Are we allowed to make them?

It has been done for a few of us by a specific other troper. I can't remember who, but he made mine.

I think we allowed to have one. But you should rather ask a mod about it.

Thank you, Balmung. That took unnecessarily long from the first time I asked it weeks ago in other threads.

It's Valsione, and she looks more annoying than I remembered.

No problem, I just mentioned both, because your description was vague enough that it could have been either.

Can someone sum up what happened a few hours ago ("last night" for me), leading to all those locked conversations?

Every posts after 3:30 showed up as blank because the parser crashed, but Eddie fixed it quickly. See here.

^ The parser crashed due to loading an overly-large wiki page, leading to posts which showed no text. As is natural for IJBM, topics were spammed advertising the fact, as topic titles were the only thing to show up. After it was fixed, all conversations involving it were locked, bar one or two.

Also, Madrugada showed us what "epic mod-level shitposting" would be by going through one of the blanked threads and making all but one of the posts visible, while adding snarky comments about the Parser Bunnies.

POP QUIZ HOTSHOTS

I need time to finish a picture tonight. So dinner is pizza. But, should I:

1. Order takeaway pizza

2. Purchase frozen pizza from supermarket

3. Otter

Order takeaway.

A. It's usually better.

B. You won't have to keep track of how long the frozen one has been in the oven.

C. Otter doesn't taste very good.

No delivery option? I say takeaway, then. If you buy frozen, you run the risk of getting wrapped up in finishing the picture, and burning your food. Then the smoke detector goes off and your wife and roommates all get woken up and... um.... no, that's me. But still.

Ninja'd by Madru, who noticed option 3 when I didn't.

How do you save your own copies of threads? This has been eating at me for a while now ;_;

You have to manually save the individual pages using your browser. Note that this also saves copies of all embedded images. There is bloat.

You can avoid some of the bloat by turning gingerbread off, if you don't mind missing avatars and signatures.
