That too, I honestly was going to add that but I forgot at the last minute.

I like to stay on-theme with him and keep him focused on Electric, Slash-flavored physical and buff skills- Aside from the flexibility there, it means it's hard to be screwed by his all-even stat growths.

I sure said that!

I do the same with Orpheus and Orpheus Telos in Persona 3 Portable. Fire and Bash skills with some instant death weakness plugging.

Oh, and I'm oddly attached to Titania solely because in P3:FES she carried my ass for so long. Not sure why or how, but something about her Fusion just made her mow down for waaaaaaaaaaay after she should've been obsolete.

Titania's always been great in any game she's in. It helps that she's usually at a high enough level when you get her (Persona 4 has her at level 26, but normally she's a mid to late game demon/persona) so it make it easier for her to stay powerful.

Titania in P4 gives Rejuvenate 3 which is insane for its level, I will pass that on to any main persona I get for almost the whole game. In both versions.

She's the first demon with Mediarahan in Strange Journey as well.

    Persona 3 Ups and Downs

I knew i was right to love Aigis. The best scene in like the whole game was her finally returning to the group. Her voice-actress hit it out of the park. They all did, really. This game has come a long way since the start when I felt everyone was a bit soulless. I also have to wonder if Ryoji's voice being the same as the protagonist's is intentional. (it's clearly Yuri Lowenthal doing all those grunts in battle. I'm onto you, Sasuke)

The new music for the Dorm is also fantastic and provides a great atmosphere.

Overall, the start of January has really revitalized me. As I said, I was getting kinda sick of the game because it was just dragging. But now things feel alive and they are coming to a head.

So I had some real heartbreaks with getting BS game overs right b efore I got to the last guardian. Fucking bug things killed me with Akasha Arts or whatever when I tried to escape. I should have just used Trafuri but I don't like to waste SP. But well, I learned my lesson and just Trafuri's my way right back to the top. I lost out on a rare new staff but I guess I'll live. I barely attack any more anyway. I let Mitsuru do everything and just heal.

Poor Aigis seems obsolete. She just has Fatal End and Heat Wave. What the fuck.

Fight with Death Round 1 ended with failure because I'm a fucking moron. I should have switched over to Abaddon to keep me safe from all his physical attacks but no, I accidentally just ended my turn and he promptly killed me with Vorpal Blade. Fuck. I was so close to, had him down to maybe 25% HP. But I'm not resting until this SOB is dead. He's plagued my entire game.

Also Aigis has the revive with full HP spell. She is awesome. I take back what I said.

Round 2 ends in failure, was even less close to winning than 1.

Ya know it's also really annoying having to wait around for the asshole to show up, even though I do othe rthings while waiting.

Had him down to a sliver of HP in my fourth or fifth attempt when, guess what, his Attack reverted and he immediately used Megidolaon. It didn't help the fight was taking forever because I had to nerf Mitsuru's damage output in order to keep her alive.

The weakness system in this game is so fucked up because there's nothing you can do about it except stack equipment on the person and then pray. I had to put two pieces of equipment on Mitsuru so she could actually dodge his fire attacks. Otherwise he just used her as a punching bag all match and kept getting extra turn after extra turn.

Abaddon is a great help in this fight, especially since I have Null Light on him but we just can't do any real damage to the bastard. It's all just slowly chipping away at him because, as I said, I had to nerf Mitsuru in order to keep her alive. But that just drags out the battle which gives him ample opportunities to wipe us all out with bullshit Almighty spells.

What's also bullshit is how buffs wear off in this game. It makes your teammates waste turns and it makes me incredibly frustrated when my turn comes around and it says "Defense Down" and I know this means that defense will be down for all my teammates too but I can't do shi tabout it except let it all fade away and give the enemy a free turn to take a shot at my weakened party members.

I dunno, I was determined to beat the boss but what's the point when it can literally all fall apart in a second through no fault of your own?

I miss Nocturne. And Strange Journey even. I was so excited about the endgame with its great new music and atmosphere but now I'm just irritated.

Fighting death is a challenge of mechanics,

  • you want to get him paralyzed via Thunder Reign (make Odin and maybe toss the skill on Alice.)
  • have your next party member set to knock down then all out attack, this party member needs to be your highest agility
  • and party member 2 set to knockdown as well but do not all out attack, high agility too
  • death will waste a turn getting up
  • Akihiko or Aigis set to support to debuff him or buff you.

Rinse and repeat.

The key thing is to set your party up so you go first. Party order > Agility when determining who will go after the MC.

You do not actually have to fight him till the final day when Liz will give you a quest once you reach the top of the tower.

No, I already have the quest. She wants a Bloody Button. I'm already at the top, too.

I do have Odin, though. I'd need to level him up to get that skill however.

I'm under leveled too I guess. Level 69.

The Reaper is stronger than the Final Boss of the storymode, so the difficulty isn't unexpected to me. Going from the main series to Persona does force you to change how you use buffs and debuffs, but it isn't too difficult to adjust to.

70-74ish is the recommended level to beat him and the final boss. Once you do you will unlock the Monad block, there are the hardest enemies in P3 and you can get to 99 there easily in addition to getting the Infinity -1 Sword s for everyone in random loot.

You don't need to go there to beat the game.

[up][up] I just dislike knowing I'm powerless before the game mechanics in such a dumb way.

Turn order in this game seems random anyway. I fought Death like 7 times and each time turn order was different. So depending on that random bullshit, some buffs might wear off and others won't. And one of your team might cast a Ma-buff when only one character has lost their buffs.

Stuff like that annoys me.

So anyway, setting aside Teddie and to a lesser extent Akihiko, I'm surprised that I actually kind of like Q's goofy tone. It's even made me like Aigis, though honestly she's pretty OOC. Rei is okay. Zen is a giant chunk of meat with no personality.

And considering who Zen is, I guess it makes sense he lacks a notable personality

It's a meme that originated from Digital Devil Saga, which asterism was referencing.

In DDS the characters start out as functionally automatons with the emotional range of a teaspoon but thanks to the catalyst of the plot their emotions start to awaken and this causes conflict as they struggle with them.

Gale is the super cold and logical party member even after his emotions awaken, and he's one of the last ones to gain them. His typical response to the party's more emotional impulses was "I do not comprehend". The way Steve Blum delivered that line in particular is pretty funny.

The catalyst being a virus that turns people into cannibal personas demons that have to eat each other to survive or else go insane from hunger.

It's also the only SMT games to take place in America.

It's a good duology by the way, if anyone here has yet to play it. I haven't finished the first game yet but am very close and so far I highly enjoyed it, minus the obnoxious encounter rate which can eventually be mitigated.

"I do not comprehend" sneaks in every now and then in Atlus USA's localizations, because that's how they roll and they've been careful enough that we can usually trust 'em not to overplay their hands.

[up]It sorta treads gleefully back and forth over the line of it being a duology and it just straight-up being a two-disc game sold in halves, honestly.

Mechanically not so much- There's tons of improvements in 2- But the story is very, very unfinished in 1.
