HOLY SHIT PEOPLE I CAN BARELY BELIEVE IT! IT WAS WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAY MORE AWESOME THAN I EXPECTED! ALL THAT COSPLAYING AND SHOPPING AND DANCING AND SHIT LOOK RIDICULOUS ON PICTURE, BUT HOLY CRAP HOW IT FEELS INSIDE! THE EUPHORIA! THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY! THE FEVER! THE SUPER DUPER DISCOUNTS ON EVERYTHING AWESOME THAT HAS EVER EXISTED, ALL LAID DOWN BEFORE YOUR EYES! AND I GOT EVANGELION 2.22 ON BLU-RAY BEFORE ANY SHOP HAD IT! ALSO, THERE WAS AN ANKAMA STAND AND IT WAS FULL OF AWESOMECUTE MERCH AND THERE WAS A SHOP OF KIMONOS AND YUKATAS AND THERE WAS some idol whose name wasn't worth remembering and OHMYFUCKINGGODIWASTHRILLED BY EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE AND THERE WAS COUPLE OF GUYS IN MILITARY GEARS WHO DID THE GUNS OF THE PATIROTS SNAKE CRAWL ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THERE WAS A KAMINA SHOUTING AND POINTING AT THE HEAVENS AND THERE WAS LOTS AND LOTS OF AWESOMECOOL AWESOME.

Only one thing [bugs} me throughtout the event. The posters. I want posters I can hang in my room that won't make whoever visits think I'm gay. I want posters of Fullmetal Alchemist and Code Geass. THESE TWO DESIRES HAVE PROVEN TO BE INCOMPATIBLE! JUST HOW MUCH HO YAY CAN YOU CRAM IN ONE FREAKING IMAGE? I GET AN ALPHONSE WHO'S WEARING SOMETHING THAT WOULD SUIT SAI FROM NARUTO, WITH HIS FIRST TROUSER BUTTON UNBOTTONED, AND EXTENDING A HAND WITH SUCH AN INVINTING SMILE I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO RAPE ME THEN AND THERE. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON LELOUCH AND ROLO WITH THEIR FINGERS ENTWINED.

I also wanted pictures that didn't make me look like a complete pervert. No panty shots, no pure fanservice, I just want my heroes looking cool or badass or something. Nope, tons and tons of extremely sexualized material. I can't let people see that shit! Many were worse than a Playboy centerfold!

JESUS CHRIST MAN I CAN'T EVEN HEAR NOW

No really, anime conventions are just plain fun. Of course, I am always completely broke afterward, but it somehow feels worth it. There's something amazing about dressing up as Raven and then proceeding to purchase gay doujinshi centered around him.

Chances are, I'm not actually wearing any pants right now.

That sucks about FMA posters having a lot of Ho Yay, but really, what were you expecting from Code Geass? There's so much Ho Yay in that show it's ridiculous.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.

I approve of the Ho Yay. waii

Although, I like the idea of the solo pic more personally.

I went to my first and only con so far this past summer, so I know how you feel. It's just so overwhelming at first, just standing there in a huge loud room (and also, the place ConnectiCon is held in is unusually attractive, as convention centers go) and everywhere you look are tons of people dressed as characters you recognize and just as many dressed as characters who are awesome but completely new to you, and they're all posing or dancing or fighting or doing amusingly mundane things or...

Yeah, that's how it felt at first. And all the stuff for sale! I was annoyed that out of all that stuff, I just couldn't find a little core drill from Gurren Lagann to wear around my nec, which would have been awesome if I did.

And the great thing is that people are in this crazy mindset, so even if you just wear a fedora, people assume you're trying to cosplay Indiana Jones or something! It happened to me...

Yeah that was so fucking FUN, I can't believe I denied myself such a pleasure for FOUR YEARS until now. That's IT, EVERY YEAR I'm going to go ther. I'm also taking a damn sewing course and build my own costumes.

Though, given my build and girth, I can't think of anything better than... the chief of Jiiha village? Maes Hughes? I don't have the muscles for Major Armstrong, who MUST be able to remove his shirt and SPARKLE.

If only I could forge armours as well as that guy from A Game Of Thrones... then I might be able to build a Gurren-Lagann approximate replica, perhaps take it from Parallel Works 2....

No, I mean I really am too TALL: characters this tall are usually MUSLCE BOUND, and I am NOT.

What to cosplay as... Alucard, perhaps, as long as I'm under the coat? Or FATMAN from Metal Gear Solid 2? Or perhaps Aladdin's Genie?

Though everyone likes to usually go for the most recognizable FMA characters, I'm hopefully going to be cosplaying as Furey next year. I actually do look quite a bit like him, and the Amestrian uniform is an easy costume to both obtain and wear.

Seconding Sporkaganza that there is no reason for you to assume Geass fanart will not be full of Ho Yay. I mean, I get the feeling that there's more Yaoi fanart—actually, more Yaoi official art—out there than het.

....also when I first read your post I thought you were trying to parody that Boku No Pico guy.

I just thought that might be worth mentioning.

Anyway, the only downside to con is that you never have enough money. All those volumes of manga and DV Ds and fan art that I can't afford....

/sigh

Lucky you, my first anime convention three years ago was waiting in line for six hours due to poor planning and unfortunate events and then barely staying after that. tongue The next two times were much better though and real fun.

Going to an anime convention for the first time was rather illuminating. Nowhere did I hear anyone drop Gratuitous Japanese, and people were quite friendly overall. It appealed to both casual and dedicated fans and even dropped in plenty of video game references. It's worth noting Pokemon was really popular with the cosplayers.

And of course, there aren't many other places you can see plenty of (real) girls in skimpy outfits.

^^ No, I mean that Youtube video where that guy tells you not to watch Boku No Pico because he's so disgusted that he's actually turned on by it.

Well, I have never been to an anime convention because I try to hide my power level, I am not a fan of crowded places, and I think it would it would be rather awkward since I would probably stand out. Plus, I have only recently become interested in anime and I try to sidestep the fandom.

However, I have been to conventions for other things I am interested in (like Pokemon for example  *

). I remember getting totally destroyed by Double Team hax once at one of those conventions, but I did eventually get a free board game out the experience  *.

Sorry, I suppose that was a bit off-topic. Anyway, I agree about the sexualized stuff. Even if one was into that kind of thing, I just think it would be odd to have poster like that in one's home. I may just be weird though.

I'm sure I've seen non-yaoitastic FMA art when I've been conventions. Unless you assume that Ed taking his shirt off is yaoi, but that happens in the show, so...

But yeah, there's a reason Code Geass has a great big Yaoi Fangirl audience.

CLAMP do apparently ship Lelouch/Suzaku, going by their artwork.
