It's Compile Heart's flagship. They milk it for all it's worth. That said, I can't fault CH for it since they put quite a few other games while doing so.

I think the real question is exactly why it's their flagship

I mean sure it has originality points but that usually only really counts for the first time

not that I dislike this franchise but I mean, yeah

MMORPGs are serious business.

The thing is that most of Compile Heart's titles are original ideas with cute girls. I couldn't tell you why Neptunia sold enough for a sequel, TBQH, 'cause the first game sucked in terms of gameplay - it's from the second one onwards that it was even worth it in the gameplay department.

Maybe it's that the fanservice is significantly lighter than most of their other titles.

[up]...that's... saying something.

Now that I think about it, seeing as most Neptunia fans regard the first game as garbage, it is baffling how it caught on the way it did, especially in the West.

I liked watching it in a visual novel kinda way, with the funny dialogue. The only problem was skipping to those parts, sometimes I had to skip entire videos.

[up][up]That's the weird thing with the company. ~80% of the time, how good any given game from them is has a direct correlation with the amount of fanservice. Neptunia is the main exception.

Like, Mugen Souls Z was quite good but had to be censored. Monster Monpiece is freakin' excellent but makes you feel dirty while playing after they censored it. Sorcery Saga is completely clean and is way too barebones and short to even justify half its price tag.

[up]That is odd.

That still doesn't answer the question of Neptunia's popularity, though.

I was more curious about what each title was about. My basic map of the plots are:

  • Neptune gets Easy Amnesia and ends up fighting to save her world.
  • Sequel involves the Goddesses getting their butts whooped, so Neptune's (apparently stronger) younger sister, Nepgear, joins the fray.
  • Then there's some kind of alternate universe biz.
  • And 2 games set in that timeline.
  • And then they went back to the old timeline... I think.
  • And then I saw some kind of DDR parody.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).

[up]Allow me to clarify a few things for you.

The series actually doesn't stay in one universe very often. mk2 rebooted things, Victory mostly takes place in another dimension, both of the released spin-offs don't quite fit into any continuity (nor with each other) for various reasons, etc. I think the remakes moved the original game into the same continuity as the rest of the main entries, however. (Can't verify until both come Westward.)

Nepgear is not stronger than Neptunenote , she was simply the only one IF and Compa had time to save at the beginning of mk2. Her goal for most of the game is to free her sister and the others.

There's no DDR parody. It's more of an Idolmaster parody if anything. The gameplay in Producing Perfection is via raising stats through menus and controlling the camera and special effects during performances.

New interview on Re;Birth1.

My key takeaways (since I already know the gist of the story changes from watching videos of the Japanese version), were that they're keeping the voice cast and terminology. Also, Idea Factory International intends to keep handling Neptunia personally. Feedback from the anime apparently played a role in the writing.

Just got Victory yesterday and I'm interested in the texture thing. I want to know if someone made purple and yellow costumes for Neptune and Peashy?

The first Neptunia is a worse version of Trinity Universe. The game engines are the same, both use many visually identical enemies.

So the Neptunia Art Book for the first game and Mk2 has been translated by UDON, and is now available.

@Morning Star: I never looked into that sort of thing for V. Got bored playing around with it in mk2.

[up][up]Yeah, I'm in no rush to grab that just yet. I already have artbooks from the L Es of all three console games and the kusoge known as Producing Perfection. Unless the one Udon put out is significantly better.

People have gotten review copies of Re;Birth1. It seems to have a good framerate aside from the first few seconds after loading an area.

Which is great, since Compile Heart is apparently not very good with framerates (I never notice unless it's sub-20 or a direct comparison, so I'm not one to talk on the subject).

Okay so Im up to chapter...7 now (the one with Yellow Heart and Eden) and Here's what I did so far:

  • Bought some of the DLC, (including the weapons as well as the other armor/accessories)
  • Sent my scouts out to look for enemies or certain dungeons
  • farmed invisible cloth for when i need money or new palette swaps are available
  • And defeated Gargoyle. the apparent That One Boss. (I applied buffs, have Vert debuff him and used 2 EXE abilities because apparently with this guy there really is no kill like overkill. He went down in a few turns.
  • and found all of the True end dungeons except the one in eden

Now I have a few questions:

  • What medal/disc do I need to make the Final Fantasy Godly disc?
  • How do I get Nepgear's SP recovery? is it part of her legendary Weapon?
  • Speaking of the Legendary Seven:
    • Is Keiji Inafune the guy who created Megaman, Mighty #9 and Gunvolt? (Just wnated to make sure)
    • Where do I find Nepgear's and Noire's weapons
    • Is Plutia's Mean Face & Old Stinker abilities her legendary weapon or just a replica of neptune's?

Sorry, I never play one game remotely long enough to get what you're asking about.

In any event, did any of you hear aout this?

Long story short:

  • Limited Edition of Re;Birth will only have 1000 copies available.
  • You can't pre-order them. You have to grab them off Amazon or the IFi online store at midnight PST on the 26th.
  • Since the 26th is the game's release date, you will get the game late no matter what if you go through the trouble.

Nope. If they were sold in stores, and they had such limited copies available, logistics would mandate pre-orders being allowed. Think about it - there are more than 1000 stores in North America offering this game.

This is nowhere near the first instance of Limited Editions only being available online, though, so that's not what irks me about it. The lack of pre-ordering is. As things stand, I have to keep my standard edition on order, take my chances with this, and go in to cancel only if I can't get this.

[up] Meh I don't have a Vita, nor not obsessive enough to care about Feelies (INB 4 IF prez line). So this affects me little.

Any since my last post I have:

  • done a few more quests
  • Got to the penultimate chapter. And gotten all the Exposition scenes needed for the true ending
  • And gotten you-know-who on my party (I may have over-leveled everyone else with all the questing.)

Right nwo I'm gonna do some more quests, maybe a bit of grinding to make certain ingredients and chips and once I get the CPU candidates do some level grinding until everyone is around 100-125 average.

BTW how does Neptune naturally break the damage cap? Is it an inherent skill that she can learn at high levels or is it something else entirely

burnpsy Since: Sep, 2010
#724: Aug 8th 2014 at 11:53:01 PM

You can only break the damage cap with Nepgear in the backrow or with certain DLC equipment, unless there were in-game ones I was unaware of.

I only care about the Limited Edition because I buy those wherever possible and have them for every title in the series to date. If something like this breaks my streak, I'll be pissed. Oh, and I actually have a Vita, so there's that.

[up] Yeah I'm wondering about that because Her Lightning Bruiser entry (on Victory's character page, no less) mentions that she can break the cap naturally. Im just wonder if its true and how(I currently equipped her with the DLC book mar but if She doesn't need it for the cap break I can give it to Nepgear)

Anyway regarding V II. I have a wild mass guess about Nepgear and the Conquest ending. My theory being that Conquest!Nepgear will appear with "canon"!Nepgear and that the Zerodimension will be based off the Conquest ending
