Hey folks just a heads up. There is a massive recall of various fire extinguishers with plastic handles. If you have home or automobile units check them out.

Just found this out. That shit bag that shot up that church in Texas today shot my Gunny from when I was at my unit. He survived his surgery but will likely be out until Monday and moved from Trauma to ICU. He is stable.

Turns out Gunny took three rounds and had to go back for another round of surgery but seems to be stable again. They were briefly worried. Some limited good news is the round hit his femur and not his hip. Apparently it is a fracture rather than a shatter. Bad angle for the hit. The other round was in his shoulder but it seems he is all patched up again.

The USMC Wounded Warrior Regiment SNCOIC(Senior Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge) showed up to talk to him. He got so full of piss and vinegar while intubated that he started causing trouble.

Some guys from the unit are going show up for an impromptu Marine Corpse Birthday which has been green lit by the hospital.

It is pretty bad but pretty much all of them are.

Quiet day for Gunny just a day of recovery it seems.

Today is my missus and I's 9 year anniversary. We are so going for a nice lunch.

[up]The good news in there... liver. Those have a habit of bouncing back from physical trauma quite well. Given the chance and the time to.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. smile

I'm visiting my brother & sister-in-law (and new baby nephew) this week, and at some point in conversation I mentioned that one of the few current bands I pay attention to is Imagine Dragons.

Yesterday, my brother, who is a tour guide for Universal Studios, was assigned a high-profile tour, meaning the guests in question are either celebrities or extremely rich (or both). Which he usually avoids, since it's often a lot more work, but in this case he didn't have a choice. These folks showed up unannounced, so they got whoever was available. Come to find out, it was two of the guys from Imagine Dragons, their families, and their manager. (FYI they're all big Harry Potter fans and spent most of their visit in Hogsmeade & Diagon Alley.)

The tour went well. Everybody behaved themselves, only a couple fans recognized them, and nobody made a scene. To show their appreciation, their manager offered my brother free tickets to their concert tonight.

So tonight we're all going to see Imagine Dragons. For free. (Well, except for my nephew, as we'd like to spare his hearing.) My sister-in-law and I are just going, "What are the odds?"

The verizon collections department just knocked almost 200 points off my credit score over an account that I’ve been telling them for months was opened fraudulently and not by me. So now I have to drive to the county police headquarters, pick up a copy of the police report, and fax it, which means I’ve got to find someone who still has a working fax machine.

I’m more than a little annoyed right now.

If you've got a scanner, you can use an online PDF to fax service.

Heck, there are mobile apps out there that let you take pictures of the documents and exports grayscale PDF files.

Any of the mailbox places should also have a fax service available. I know the UPS Store does, as I've used the local branch for that purpose now and again when a scanner wasn't convenient.

VP Pence visited Gunny in the hospital.

Keep Your Wits

He related an example of service from the tragedy in Texas. “On Wednesday, Karen and I traveled to Sutherland Springs, Texas, to meet the families and the victims of the worst attack on a place of worship in American history,” the vice president said. “At Brooke Army Medical Center, we stood at the bedside of a retired U.S. Marine Corps gunnery sergeant named Juan Macias. We spoke to his family, as he lay before us, recovering from his injuries. But it was from another member of the church that we learned of that veteran’s extraordinary courage last Sunday.

“Julie Workman, a registered nurse, was also wounded in the First Baptist Church that day,” Pence continued. “But no sooner had the attacker left that she began to treat the wounded. Seeing what lay before her, though, Julie told me she was momentarily overcome, and that’s when “Gunny” stepped in. Despite having five bullet wounds, she told me that Gunny sat up, looked her in the eye and said, ‘You were born for this, keep your wits about you, do your job.’ She said that’s all she needed to hear. Heroism outlives the uniform. And her actions and his courage undoubtedly saved lives that day. That’s an American veteran.”

"Worst attack on a place of worship in American history."

I don't want to politicize your family tragedy in here, but... Is it? Without statistics in front of me, it seems there might be black churches, mosques, and probably even synagogues that could challenge that.

At least form a cursory search, while there have been attacks on mosques and synagogues in recent years (and there has been an uptick of antimuslim activity this year especially) it's mostly vandalism. Going by casualties, this is the worst violent attack within (and possibly against) a religious institution in recent history.

Tuef, i'm really glad Gunny is recovering and that he was brave enough to help and encourage others even while himself wounded. Praying for the whole situation.

Ha, so my manager has been on vacation the last week and whoever did the schedule for the week of Thanksgiving made a couple typos. Two shifts I have start at 4am (the normal time) and are slated to end at 1230 AM, not 1230 pm like they normally do. I'm almost tempted to work that whole 20 some hour shift just to be a smart ass. I could do it, too.

Hiya Ori! How's Baby Doodle?

Mark! Did you upgrade to a cybernetic liver yet? grin

Taira, I tried to take the test but I'm confused how many of those questions have negative points you're supposed to apply, and I lost count somewhere in the low triple digits. Does that give me an automatic 200? tongue

If you haven't been watching the news, we just finished doing some three-carrier-photo-ops over near Korea. Deployment is pretty boring, so I'm glad I stocked up on Steam games. Just finished Fran Bow[note]the graphic design of Tim Burton with the graphic content of Texas Chainsaw Massacre[/note] and just started Torment Tides Of Numanera[note]which has a pretty awesome starting sequence, though it's no waking up on a mortuary slab[[/note]]. I've also got Stranger Things, Super Girl, and Jessica Jones waiting to be watched.
