This is true, now that I think about it.

Dib would not genocide... Not intentionally, anyways. I can totally see him trying to determine the biggest part of Irken infrastructure to try and destroy from a tech scan and ending up destroying the control brains, and given PA Ks are linked INTO those...

Okay, THAT, I can imagine, possibly even treading into Nice Job Breaking It, Hero. Makes sense considering how Dib is the Butt-Monkey of the universe.

Now there's a story premise with potential. He sets out to bring down the Empire and does, but the methods turning out far more ruthless than he'd deliberately intended. How would he react? Would he feel guilty? Would he rationalize it as karma? Would he admit to it having been an accident, especially if he was hailed by the other races as a hero?

I'd imagine Dib being hailed as a hero, while being kind of broken by the whole fact he killed an entire alien race and beating himself up about it. And, if Jhonen's in the mood to Throw the Dog a Bone, a reveal that the finale was him telling his story in an interview on TV not unlike Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom, and he talks about how he learned to not beat himself up about it and went on to be a representative of Earth to other cultures and probably fade out at some point... I dunno, that's just how I'd see it going. Maybe it's just my Dib partiality talking, I always thought he deserved a life like DW Lo D gave him.

May I interject? 'Cause that's Made Of Win right there if you ask me.

Though, I'm not sure Dib would really would get over it. Maybe he's telling the interviewer how he's still grappling with the feeling guilt. (I mean the Irkens are Complete Monsters, but they're still sentient beings.)

^ I know, but, as I said, innocent mistake I think is license enough for him to not beat himself up about it.

Yeah, but that's a purely rational way to look at it. Guilt isn't entirely rational. In this case, victory is inextricably tied up with mass murder. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some level of Was It Really Worth It? self-doubt in the aftermath. Especially if humanity didn't exactly conform to Dib's expectations the way it did in the Lotus-Eater Machine.

Alternately, I could imagine that sort of thing causing a person to adopt an I Did What I Had to Do moral stance retroactively, finding it easier to think of the deed as something done in the pursuit of a firmly-held ideology rather than remember things as the accident they were. Of course the true test of that scenario would be to put him in a situation where he had the motive and opportunity to do the same thing again, only on purpose, and see how it held up.

Lots and lots of potential.

Can I interject a moment?

I don't think Dib would feel ANY guilt about killing the irkens, AT ALL. He's shown no hints that he cares about Zim as anything other than an enemy, has expressed an interest in dissecting him on numerous occasions, and has even addresses the Tallest as "alien scum" while asking for Irk's coordinates.

If Dib had ANY regrets about killing off the Irken race, it'd be that they all melted, leaving him with nothing to dissect, and no proof of his struggle.

^ ...You know how a lot of people say they could kill a man but given a gun, they hesitate? Think that but on a greater scale of magnitude.

^Yeah, that's kind of what I was trying to get at before. Declaring your intention to do something, fantasizing about doing something... I don't mean to say they're meaningless or anything, but they are a step removed from proof you're definitely capable of it.

I thought it was interesting how at the end of Battle of the Planets, Dib had what he thought was irrefutable proof of Zim's alien origin, and advised him to head back to his home planet. Not like it accidentally slipped out of him or anything, it was deliberate. Sure there's bravado there, but if Dib were so hell-bent on dissecting him it's a mite odd that he'd warn him to get while the getting's good instead of playing coy and planning to ambush him later on, now that he has allies. I really think he's focused first and foremost on Zim's threat to the planet. He called the Tallest alien scum because as the tyrannical leaders of a gleefully genocidal race, that's exactly what they are.

Jhonen has said that Dib and Zim are "good guys on different sides", but he's also said Dib is his favorite character. I can think of a few totally "WHITE" characters in IZ, Keef being one of them, but you know how often HE'S knocked around.

I think that, ultimately, there never could be a real ending to Invader Zim because most likely the ending would be something like a set-up to a whole new show we'd never see, even if Zim does get blown up, just before the credits roll, we'd see his PAK crawling out of the hole or something.

One thing seems to be consistent, and that's that the eternal struggle never changes in the series. Invader Zim has no end.

In fact there is a discussion in Just Bugs Me: Always Chaotic Evil, about killing an entire race of this type.

Yes, it's an interesting topic, which does not at all address the issue of there not being sufficient reason to believe Dib's supposed genocide was absolutely going to happen and thus should warrant an inclusion on his character sheet listing.

Just to be completely random, and I can't believe I'm going to ask this, but has anyone seen a GIR Moe Personification on the internet? With everyone doing this to robots like WALL-E, Hal 9000 and G La DOS, I'm curious to see what GIR would look like just for pure horrors.

[up] Go to Deviant Art and search GIR. You're guaranteed to find Moe/Bishonen stuff there.

Weird. I know a kid in my shop who drew a picture extremely similar to the first pic. All that was different was the expression. Of course, my ensuing research makes it clear that they're not the same person. Perhaps he just traced it or drew it by memory (I did not get a close view of his picture).

[up][up] See what I mean? With GIR's Keet-like personality, it's predictable.

Then again, it's the internet; anything is possible.

Ugh, those were horrifically horrible.

But on another note, GIR vs GLaDOS- who would win?

Just to be really random which is a more CMOA: the Opening Theme or Ending Theme of Invader Zim?

Opening. Definitely the opening. Ending is good, but a bit too repetitive for my tastes.

Yeah I really like the opening theme myself, but I also think that the ending theme captures more of the show's militaristic spirit.
