Did you at least remember who voiced both Konata and Haruhi?

I'm wondering why Taniguchi doesn't like Minoru Shiraishi...

^^ I did. The irony of Taniguchi's statement never fails to amuse me.

What do you think Kyon's mom's reaction would be when she finally learns that the so well-mannered girl she had been dead set on matchmaking with Kyon is the heir apparent to a yakuza group ninkyo dantai? A momentary heart attack?

Fainting at the least. This isn't even getting into what'll happen when she finds out her son is a high-ranking member as well as engaged to the heir, that her brother's also affiliated with the exact same group, and that everyone Kyon hangs around with often is somehow a member.

I doubt she'd have any success calling off the marriage. Kyon's father strikes me as someone who wouldn't be overly concerned...

I did remember who voiced both characters, yes. That's part of the reason why I originally laughed at the statement. Otherwise, it would have been just "Oh, Lucky Star got mentioned, too. Cool."

I think his mother will probably Logic Bomb. "I didn't want him to enter a life as a delinquent, so I set him up with this nice, beautiful rich girl. Oh wait, she's the heiress of the most powerful ninkyo dantai family around, and because of her, Kyon's entered the family. And I agreed to an omiai with him marrying her... Kyon's going to be the husband of the heiress of a ninkyo dantai family." *boom*

"Oh, and Mom, because of me, Uncle Keiichi's Sonozaki-gumi joined forces with us."

And we all know how much love she holds for her brother... Which is to say, none. Yep, she's definitely gonna have a heart attack.

Hey, do you think it's possible for Kyon to be accidentally de-aged, and he's forced to remain in that form for a while? That would be a good Detective Conan shout-out... cool Especially if Haruhi decides, in her own Insane Troll Logic, that this means it's perfectly alright to drag him with her into the bath and wash him, whether he likes it or not. evil grin [lol] Or maybe she and/or Mikuru are initially unaware of this new kid's identity, take pity on him in mud-drenched clothes, and take him to the bath for a thorough wash. Imagine their surprise once they get a good look at his face.

While I think what to post I'll refer to Word of God about Kyon's parents, answer to my Side-B review on Filler arc 4.

For Kyon's parents, yeah, his mother is obstructionist, and his father is starting to wonder. Mostly, the father is absenteeish, since (surprise), we don't know that Kyon's family actually even _includes_ a father. . In the novels, even when Kyon is hospitalized, only his sister and mother come to visit. Hopefully I'm not going too far into left field; both of them have plans to develop as they come to realize the magnitude of changes in Kyon's life. It'll be his father first, as he slowly turns into a supporter-from-the-shadows, and it's a few chapters off (probably), but it's planned. Even though it hasn't really been brought up much in the story, Kyon's mother genuinely does mean the best for him ... though it'll break her heart to realize how far removed she is from his life once she realizes what's actually happening, and that Kyon chose to leave them in the dark. Ostensibly for their own good, but still.... :x

Loved the irony of Kyon's mother statement but for me the best part was Nonoko's save.

I'd find it unlikely for Kyon to be de-aged anytime soon although it would be amusing depending on the circumstances. There just doesn't seem much point for it to occur but that doesn't mean it won't happen I suppose.

I'm still amused that the change in Koizumi's powers was so far back in the story that almost everyone's theory was wrong. It makes me wonder just what else Haruhi unconsciously or consciously changed during her Memory Gambit. Wouldn't be surprised that she might have done something to Kanae's sliding powers.

What's this TPDD(?) thing that keeps popping up every now and then? I can deduce that it's related to the Time Travellers, but nothing else.

The TPDD is Mikuru's time machine: Time Plane Destruction Device.

It exists as a non-material sixth sense in her brain.

Completely Missing The Point: In Gearing Up arc chapter 5 when returning from training Kyon was received with a pillow thrown to his face, making him fall. This conversation followed:

Kyon: Haruhi? Was that you?

Haruhi: Wah! Seriously? You can tell it's me because of how the pillow hit you?

Kyon: I can tell it's you because you hit me with a pillow at all.

Who can make sense of that?

I think whoever put it up meant that Kyon misinterpreted the question. Doesn't fit the trope, if you ask me.

From the trope:

However, the center of this trope is a person who, despite having all the time in the world and all the information, comes to a conclusion so wrong it's hard to be even further from correct.

So, yeah. Kyon is correct, because she's the only person who'd throw pillows, as seen in Remote Island Syndrome, just before they discover the "corpse".

I was thinking along those lines.

We have two WMGs involving who Fujiwara is related to. Interesting.

Completely Missing The Point: That was me. I wrote it as I saw Haruhi not understanding why Kyon could know who hit him (she completely missed the fact she's the only one who'd hit him with a pillow). Rewrite or delete as you see fit.

"Time Plane Destruction Device" sounds more like a Time Crash-inducing Doomsday Device...

^ That's how I interpreted it as well. Leave it to Haruhi to completely ignore Occam's Razor in favor of the (relatively) more "exciting" interpretations.

Yes, the TPDD does sounds rather ominous. If you take it literally, it destroys entire universes every time anyone time travels...

Tanibata means death for billions in that case.

Both the Fujiwara guesses seem plausible when I think about it: the weapon Fujiwara took at the beach was handled by him, Mikuru, and Miyoko  *

before Kyon got it. Since the two girls weren't harmed...

You know, TPDD would make much more sense if it were "Time Plane Displacement Device". Is the name taken verbatim from the light novels, or is it a translation of the original, Japanese-language name, like "Esper" is to Chounouryokusha?

And yeah, it was (from the weapon's subjective POV) Fujiwara, unknown number of people (possibly none at all), future!Kyon, Miyoko, Mikuru, Yuki (hacking & reprogramming), and then present!Kyon.

But how would Future!Kyon touch the weapon? Unless he's related to the others, which indicates a certain amount of Squick, he couldn't have handled it himself.

As for where it comes from, I know it was in the unofficial translations (specifically mentioned in Disappearance) but I don't know whether it was in English or Japanese.

I don't believe future!Kyon touched the weapon, otherwise present!Kyon wouldn't have needed to unlock it.

Isn't he hostile to Mikuru's faction of Time Travellers? Like, a rogue Time Traveller? What reason would he have to give that weapon to her (or any of her colleagues)?

The only way I could see Fujiwara giving the weapon to Mikuru is him getting a better "toy", one that makes that weapon obsolete. After all, he openly dislikes Mikuru.

Then it's Fujiwara —> (Unknown) —> future!Mikuru —> present!Miyoko —> present!Mikuru —> Yuki —> Kyon.

Thus allowing teen!Mikuru touch it and getting the feeling she got when watching Trope-tan... somehow she got some insight of her future self memories without realizing? That'd mean adult!Mikuru used the weapon somehow.
