Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

@Ninety: If you do pick up X-2 and you care at all about getting the best ending, make sure to follow a guide. That game is completely unforgiving when it comes to getting 100%.

Well, I beat the Flowsand Lord on the second attempt. Would have been easier had I not killed one of the level 12 antlion with a spare turn thinking it would be replaced with another one out of the way of my party - nope, level 18 Pit Beast that pummelled by party with ranged AOE Wind attacks. Just about made it through.

Struggled to find a Sturdy Bone so I could get the Twin Bow to get my Sniper Double Shot, which she badly needed to become effective, but have it now and she's dominating. Blew through the next two story quests in short order, albeit with a slight struggle because I'm so underleveled, so I could go for the Eastwatch quest to unlock Parivirs. Done in some style, and also beat the Master Monk quest with level 15 approx characters despite it being a level 29 quest.

Auction season is approaching so I'm going to max out my 2nd and 3rd place finishes rather than dominating everywhere; I'll also polish off all the random battles that disappear after you become grand champion ahead of the next auction season. After the current season, I need to do the next story mission so I can recruit a second summoner as as a summoner, as well as get Spellblades. I do have one Summoner Red mage, but she lacks Blood Price and that I need to fix. Got a few handy abilities for Summoners so far - namely Kirin, Ramuh and Ifrit, so once she doesn't have to wait a second turn to cast them, domination ensues.

The way I play, this game's difficulty falls off a cliff very quickly around this point.

SE added a video covering the songs from VIII-XIV in Theatrhythm.

That comes out to 154 songs from the main series, and apparently there are 221 songs in total, which means we can expect 67 from the various spinoffs. I believe Tactics, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Type-0, Advent Children, Crisis Core, Mystic Quest, X-2, and Romancing Saga have been confirmed to have songs in the game.

I kinda wish they'd include the Dissidia remakes of some of the songs from the earlier games, at least, but that seems unlikely at this point...

The only proper Dissidia/Duodecim songs I can think of of any significance are Cantata Mortis and God In Fire. ... Oh yeah, forgot the three parts of Chaos and also Cosmos.

From the Dissidia games, I'd also like Keeping the Peace, The Quickening, Reform, Canto Mortis, and especially 012's ending theme.

221? Hot damn that's a lot of songs. Do we know how many are going to be repeated from the first game? I've been thinking of picking up the original Theatrhythm, but if there's a lot of overlap I might just wait for the new one.

I just got done beating FFIV for the PSP and level grinding my characters to 99. I'm now going to go do the Lunar Ruins.

Does anyone have an opinion on what characters are better in the non-DS remakes of IV?

@FFX-2.5 Does it wrap around into So Bad, It's Good, or is it just straight So Bad Its Terrible?

EDIT: Okay, I've decided that I will not read it, because I'm perfectly pleased with X's conclusion kthxbye.

So bad it's terrible describes it much better. Speaking of X, I'm getting the HD Remaster next week. I wanted the Collector's Edition with the extra stuff, but they've run out so I can't get one. So I'm just going to get the regular edition, which is mostly because it's HD and if I decide to play X-2, it'll at least have the full version, the original PAL release of X was Japan's International Edition afterall.

Never really played enough of the assorted remakes to judge, and in classic SNES it's kind of a moot point.

Also, I went and got X/X-2 HD Remastered today, as well as KH 1.5 HD, and OMG X HD SOUNDTRACK IS SO MUCH MORE AWESOME THAN IT WAS ON PS2. WHICH IS SAYING SOMETHING.

I especially love the upgraded Battle Theme and Besaid Island theme, and the Besaid Village theme, which I previously thought was totally forgettable, is now nice and Ear Worm-y. Kinda sad that Otherworld, Cloister of Trials theme, and Hymn of the Fayth (Besaid) are seemingly unchanged, though.

The only theme from FFX HD I don't like is the boss theme, it reminds me way too much of this FFX Boss Battle MIDI I heard 10 years ago.

[up][up][up] So Bad It's Horrible aside from Tidus dying again because he kicked a bomb thinking it's a blitzball.

Hence why I still find it so difficult to wrap my head around it's existence. When the parody makes perfect sense & reality is an insane joke, you know things have gone HORRIBLY awry.

Wait, that's seriously a thing that happens? So after the slow build up to his tragically inevitable death in the first game, and an entire second game devoted to bringing him back, now he'll just die and come back for any stupid reason like he's Kenny or something?

DamascaRamza Since: Jul, 2011

There's no way Tidus would be stupid enough to kick a Bomb, based on his canon personality. He's really energetic, but he's not stupid. Plus Yuna Took a Level in Jerkass in how cruelly she dumped him, basically saying "I like someone else, we're done." and then dumping him. Plus the viewpoint character who claimed to be Auron's daughter was a super bitch.

[up][up][up]Everything about that sounds aggressively malicious, like someone hated the game and set out to write a big F you to anyone who didn't.

FFX HD: Beat the Luca Goers in the forced Blitzball game... 2-1, Wakka scoring the winning goal with TWO SECONDS LEFT ON THE CLOCK.

Also, HD soundtrack continues to impress; Auron's theme is even manlier than before, as is the Blitzball theme.

Huh, it looks like the Theatrhythm website already has all the songs in the game listed...although they're mostly in Japanese so I don't know what they are. Except for Tactics - its song titles are in English, so I know we're getting classics such as "Ultema the Nice Body" and "Bland Logo~Title Back".
