Not Tropeworthy: Super Weight

Go To

To-do list:

  • Main.Super Weight was moved to JustForFun.Super Weight. Remove any wicks that misuse it as a trope since it's a game/joke and not a trope.
  • Adjusting the table formatting on the main page was suggested, due to technical issues related to getting it to display properly. Sandbox.Super Weight was made in case anyone wants to do it. This was simply an idea that came up and is not required for the thread to close, though; only dewicking is required.

    Original post

Note: This thread was proposed by Twiddler.

It's in Main/, but seems more like a Just for Fun page (for ranking characters by power level), and is indexed on Just for Fun.

It is split into many subpages due to length, which are under the namespace SuperWeight/. There's also a Laconic subpage and a Haiku subpage.

I propose the main page (Super Weight) be moved to the Just for Fun namespace, as well as the example subpages, following the pattern: SuperWeight.Foo to JustForFun.Super Weight Foo

Paging ~Twiddler to the thread. Anyway, I agree with moving to the JustForFun/ namespace since it's already a Just for Fun page (just in Main/) if the indexing is anything to go by, and it's clearly a jokey game and not a trope.

Edit: Also, I noticed SuperWeight.Animated Films was cut at some point between the addition of the page to the Queue and the actual creation of the thread.

Just keep the SuperWeight/ namespace as it is, but other than that, everything within this purview should be designated Just For Fun. [tup]

I was considering moving the subpages to the locations suggested in the OP, but keeping the old SuperWeight/ locations as redirects, since that's what I did when I handled the move for Grand Unified Timeline a while back. If keeping the subpages' namespace as-is would be preferable instead of having everything in the JustForFun/ namespace (instead of just moving the main page there), we could do that as well.

It's best to use our collective Super Weights to move to JFF

And while we're at it, we need to address the table on the hub page. It still looks awkward when you click on a note and it opens up, even on a 1080p monitor with the page in wide load mode, so imagine what it looks like on mobile devices.

EDIT: And pretty much my rationale for keeping the subpages where they are is that less moving would have to be involved. Only difference being that the lot would be JFF.

[up]We might be able to do to those tables what the TRS thread for Dueling Works did for the tables on its subpages and replace them with bulleted lists, or maybe there would be another way to move away from the table format. At least the fact that the actual entries for Super Weight already use bulleted lists means we'd only need to change the formatting of the classification system (as opposed to how a lot more text had to be changed with Dueling Works).

Edit: Checked myself and yeah, the notes mess up the positioning of the text for me too; I also have a 1080p monitor.

Edit: Copied the table to Sandbox.Super Weight to see if the formatting can be worked on later. Don't feel up to it right now, so I just saved it for later for now, but if anyone else has any ideas for how to sort through it, go ahead. (Also, the source code for the table is kind of cluttered-looking, which might be why tables are so rare on the wiki these days.)

Ironically for the title, the examples need to use other "weights" aside Super, which makes me think this page in reality is Sliding Scale Of Character Powers.

Wow confusing name, Batman. I thought this was going to be a trope for overweightness as a superpower.

Anyways, yeah, this can be moved to Just for Fun.

[up][up]Here's a better idea:

Move the main page to JustForFun.Sliding Scale Of Character Powers with the subpages be JustForFun.Sliding Scale Of Character Powers[subpage]

Sliding Scale Of Character Powers is a much better name than Super Weight and more inclusive of the other weights.

[up][up] I can't quite tell if it's sarcasm or not. If we're moving anyway, may as well rename to something less confusing.

Not sarcasm. I genuinely thought this was going to be a trope about overweightness as a superpower before opening the post and reading the trope description. It caught my attention because I was like "how could this not be a tropeworthy concept?"

I don't see a reason to rename if we're moving this out of the Main/ namespace, since it's Not a Trope and people seem more likely to get tripped up by the names of things in Main/ (though I could be mistaken, and it might be a coincidence since we probably have more Main/ pages than pages in JFF, Darth, and Sugar namespaces), but we can still vote on whether we rename if we change the namespace, if anyone would prefer to change the name (and we'd be changing all the wicks anyway). If we changed the name, JustForFun.Super Weight would be a redirect so the auto-disambig system could catch inbounds.
