To-do list:
- Memetic Badass now disallows In-Universe examples. In-universe examples are to be moved to objective tropes (with the possible exception of reactions to a Show Within a Show), and Memetic Badass's description is to be clarified to reference the tropes the examples are being moved to. Progress is being tracked on Sandbox.Memetic Badass Wick Cleaning.
Beyond In-Universe usage, there are a ton of ZCEs (37%). Most are on trivia pages, but some that aren't could probably become In-Universe with the proper context. It would greatly benefit from cleanup, which I am told is a problem across all Badass tropes.
Out of 100 entries (contained within 75 wicks), I found:
- YMMV with Context 29%
- Good Non-YMMV 2%
- ZCE 37%
- In-Universe 26%
- Unsure 6%
In sum, I recommend this trope be cleaned up and maybe even split in two, one kept as audience reaction and the other catching In-Universe examples not fitting under Shrouded.
a/n: A month on, I worry I miscategorized stuff by forgetting to take the "for humor" into account but here we are. Though even if my categories were off, I still stand by my recommendations.

I know this TRS thread is meant to clean up In-Universe misuses, but I think now would be time to mention a problem I have with the page itself.
Namely, MemeticBadass.Real Life is one of those pages that are stupidly long while also having no real organization to it. Should there be an effort to re-sort it? Should it get nuked? Does it need fixing at all?
Please visit the "AITA" forum game...how sound is the argument that MemeticBadass.Real Life consists entirely of in-universe examples by default?
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableIt's be pretty silent, the two concepts are opposite.
Do we need to discuss No Real Life Examples, Please!? If RL examples are kept, we can ask RL Cleanup to help here.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupMemetic Mutation allows RL examples and any decision on that would probably have to apply to both tropes. Regardless, the RL section is a mess and a cleanup thread would have a field day with it.
On another note, how does everyone feel about Memetic Badass basically having two mutually exclusive variations (ironic and unironic badass)? Tier Induced Scrappy has a similar structure and is being split into two different tropes.
As the troper who created those categories, that was my attempt at identifying patterns in which character becomes a memetic badass, and the two variations described in the page (Unironic and Inronic) are the most common, recurring ones I've observed so far.
Put simply, memetic badasses tend to be one of (but aren't necessarily limited to being) two things; either they're characters who impress the audience the most by just being that impossibly cool (or providing moments that are surprisingly badass by their or the work's standards), or they're the silliest/least impressive ones in terms of badassery or the Rule of Cool, and as such are hyped up as badasses for laughs. note

I feel like that second one is much more workable as a trope.
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.I can think of one example who's both.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableActually two of the biggest and hammiest memes on This Very Wiki — Othar Tryggvassen, GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER and Ciaphas Cain, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM — fit both of those molds very well.

Please visit the "AITA" forum gameGood point! All of which are because of the author consciously playing with Dramatic Irony.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableChecking in. I see an empty sandbox, so hopefully we can rectify that soon.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportReading the Real Life page is just sort of embarassing.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Edited the page to reflect the TRS changes (aka listing the tropes in-universes should be directed to). Also added it to the cleaning projects page because we overlooked it.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailThere's a subpage for MemeticBadass.Chuck Norris but it's not about Chuck Norris himself, but other people who are memetic in the same way (with "facts" about them). Can this go somewhere else? Like to Memes, Jokes, or Real Life.
It can go to the Cut List for being completely unrelated to the person the subpage is for, especially since we don't allow YMMV subpages for real people, so I cut it.
Either way, the page was a mess for other reasons on top of being unrelated to Chuck Norris.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Irionic since that page was one of the main reasons the page was KRLE.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWe go for a hat trick then, it'll surely get NRLEP'd for sure this time I swear.
RL section is gonna need a deep cleaning now that it's basically unNRLEPable.
That page listed multiple fictional characters. Why was that specific subpage a factor in making it KRLE?
And either way, the fact that the entries on the now-cut page just listed a person or character plus a small amount of other text, without mentioning why that text makes them a Memetic Badass, was a problem aside from being unrelated to the person the page is supposedly for.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Because it's the Chuck Norris and I didn't know the page had other people, and since nobody spoken up I can't think of another reason.
Since this isn't the NRLEP thread I think I'll drop the topic. A better question is which entries at MemeticBadass.Real Life are keepable cleaning-wise.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI should probably clarify that I was mostly thinking out loud in my previous post rather than addressing you directly, so sorry if the sternness sounded like it was directed to you because it actually came about because I was baffled by the idea of a KRLE ruling coming from a page that lists fictional characters and lacks sufficient context even for examples that aren't fictional.
But anyway, since it's KRLE regardless, cleaning up the Real Life subpage sounds like a good idea if it has issues of its own.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Giving the thread a nudge. We still have a ways to go, and since the sandbox is empty, I wonder if anything is done?
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportNothing had been touched until now, admittedly. I just took a first chunk out. Seems a lot of the wicks exist in chained sinkholes.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailClocking this one between it not being clear what there's left to do (if anything), and the fact that there being in-universe examples of YMMV items isn't that big of a deal anyway (particularly, not a big deal compared to other cleanup projects currently on TRS).

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I see no need to follow the clock exactly and wait one 24 hours, so I'm just closing this.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
Crown Description:
Memetic Badass is an Audience Reaction, but it attracts In Universe examples and other non-YMMV examples that may be covered by existing objective tropes. What should be done?
Without context, check if it wouldn't fit The Dreaded, Fake Ultimate Hero, Snowball Lie, Slave to PR
