Not Thriving: Public Hater Private Fan

Only 14 links to this page thus far, according to the wick check. Worse, it was launched by someone in the Trope Launch Pad without any reason at all. Also, judging by the title, this trope could eventually become a complaint magnet, or, even worse, flame bait.

Here are some suggestions:

• Make this YMMV and redefine it with a strict set of criteria.
• Rename the trope.
• Merge this with another trope if there's a duplicate issue.
• Restrict this to In-Universe Examples Only.
• Unlaunch the trope—that is, sending it back to TLP.
• Just cutlist this altogether. If you think it will have a very serious problem, it should go to the Permanent Red Link Club.

For me, I would either make this YMMV or send it back to TLP.

I disagree about making it YMMV. It's a pretty concrete trope.

The only reason I could see for sending it back to TLP is to accrue more wicks and I'm not sure it's warranted. While the number of wicks is sort of small, it's a relatively new trope so I wouldn't expect to see a lot.

Well, this thread has been quite stale, so I guess we should unlaunch this back to TLP.

While it seems to have enough examples to qualify as a recurring trope, the description could be expanded.

Not seeing this as being YMMV. The criteria for this trope are well defined and leave little room for personal judgement. The trope title looks a little dangerous, but it's perfectly clear which is a plus. A tag for In Universe Only should be added and we are done here.

Agreed with making this In-Universe Examples Only.

This trope was brought up in the TLP crash rescue thread here by Armour Mitts. See it on the TLP Crash Rescue Tallies page.

I don't buy the argument that it's a potential complaint magnet or flame bait because it isn't thriving one way or the other. Also, the description makes it pretty clear that this is about characters, and if tropers are misusing this to soapbox about their complaints, then I'm not seeing that.

I think this could be sent back to get more examples, though another issue is that it isn't crosswicked with other tropes. The only Main/ page it's wicked to is an index. That's probably contributing to this problem.

Yeahh, not seeing any reason to do anything the OP proposed, except maybe unlaunch to gather more wicks. He seems to be trying to solve problems that doesn't exist yet.

The trope itself is doing fine. The name is clear, it passes the minimum amount of wicks and examples, and no ZCE. I'm not sure an In Universe Examples Only tag is necessary.

While the fact it was rogue-launched is problematic, it's a bit too late to do anything now.

Here's a crowner for this thread; hollering.

Don't see anything convincing at all to do anything about it. There aren't too many examples, but that's about it. I don't think it's even too few to unlaunch it to gather more. I could maybe see a reason to send a copy to TLP for example gathering while keeping the page up.

It doesn't make sense to make it YMMV, and absolutely no flamebait or similar problems have been demonstrated.

I can't say there should be Real Life examples, but there aren't any anyway, so that's also an "ain't broke; don't fix" issue.

I'd rather send it back to TLP, personally.

So, do we disallow real life examples on just the trope page itself (adding it to Administrivia.No Real Life Examples Please), or disallow them on wicks as well (adding to Administrivia.In Universe Examples Only)?
