Does Not Illustrate: Magic Knight

The current illustration isn't too bad, being the actual picture for the Magic Knight Prestige Class in D&D, but still it's a bit weak as an illustration for the trope, which is using magic and fighting in accord.

My first thought for a replacement was the Ziran from Lone Wolf.

You can easily find other, mostly with an Animesque bend, like this one.

This artist has even three versions of the same concept.

Previous thread. The three pics in the last suggestion are the best of the OP.

Anybody else has other suggestions, feel free to provide them.

I think the current is better than the suggestions.

I think the current's fine. Compared to the suggestions, it's dynamic (suggesting an active character) and both the wand and the sword are prominent (suggesting they're both used pretty equally).

Keep current.

The current isn't really representative of the trope, magic knights don't really use wands or staves. They typically use spellblades or magic from the hands.

I don't know where it is from (possibly D&D) but how about this?

There is also the High Elf/Eldritch Council Loremaster model from Warhammer and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar

I still think current is the best, with the reasons #5 said.

The current isn't really representative of the trope, magic knights don't really use wands or staves. They typically use spellblades or magic from the hands.
I don't think the type of weapons they use matter, as long as we can show they're using both melee and magic.

The problem of the current is that it has other interfering tropes muddling the illustration, like Flying Carpet.

I think I spotted 8.1 when doing research, but didn't keep it because it looked a bit small. If the size isn't an issue, it get my vote too.

Other tropes being present in an image is perfectly normal. I don't think someone's going to confuse this trope for Magic Carpet if it's called Magic Knight.

[up][up]I didn't even notice that was a carpet until you pointed it out. This whole time, I thought it was the ground or something.

Admittedly 8.1 is pretty good, but I don't see it as that much of an improvement over the current.

I don't see how the magic carpet interferes with anything.

So yeah, still waiting for an actual argument against the current other than grasping at straws.

Personally I have never liked the image because it just looks like a wizard with a sword rather than a proper magic knight, something I feel 8.1 does get across.

I also still don't see any reason to change the image.

As things have stalled with the current and 8.1/21 both having support I made a crowner if someone can attach it.

Bumping this for votes. All are in green at the moment but 24 has a reasonable lead.
