[up][up] Now that you've said it, yeah I'd like to see C.Viper and Black Widow together

And I kinda recall that back in Mv C 3 some people call Chris a Cable replacement lol.

The one thing thing that really bothers me about Black Widow is that in her level 3, she swings around the enemy and stares them in the eyes, with her hands holding their head... And instead of doing a dramatic necksnap, she swings back around just to do yet another stupid looking grapple hold. Why go round the front if you're not even going to take full advantage of your momentum? Hell, why bring out the electric batons if you're only going to use them for one hit?

The whole thing just reeks of missed potential. Where's the motorbike? Where's the Shield drones? They could have done much more, and they just did Jill 2.0! It's Hulk missing his classic "Loki Grab" all over again!

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.

They also just gave her a whole bunch of her MCU hurricanras instead of some of her more interesting judo moves like what she showcased in The Winter Soldier and Civil War even.

Been busy preparing for Thanksgiving, so I just saw the DLC characters recently. I'll look at Max's reactions to them later, but I was just linked by Google an article from Eventhubs talking about the devs "already planning to do something about Venom's voice". This just tells me that the voice direction for this game was horrible (both Gamora and Widow sound a lot better in their cartoons than they do here, so it's not like their actresses are bad).

Anyway my thoughts:

  • Was never that interested in Winter Soldier. He came across as a weird mix of Redfield and (appropriately enough) Cap, but because those two (and Spencer) are already in, Bucky ends up feeling boring to me, despite the fact that he's new to the series.

  • Similarly, Widow came across as a bootleg Jill and Viper, but I'll need to look at her some more, along with Bucky for that matter. Her Tron look is good, but her build seems very similar to Gamora and Marvel when she's in motion. I don't really find her too interesting, and IMO, out of the 6 DLC characters we've seen, I think she'd have been better off in the base roster (yes, even over Panther and Hunter).

  • Venom's Venom. He looks as cool as he did back in 2D land, but somehow comes off as less vicious to me. Maybe it's the voice? On that note, I actually like the voice, but find it horrible on Venom. It's kind of the same beef I have with Spidey: the voices don't work well with how these characters look, causing some Vocal Dissonance. For Spidey, they gave him the "young, up-and-coming hero Peter" voice from the new cartoon, but he looks like the adult Spidey from the 90s that MVC Spider-Man seems to be based on. Venom just sounds like Carnage, in fact he sounds just like the Carnage symbiote from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. And unless this is supposed to just be the Symbiote somehow manifesting as Eddie-Venom, the voice feels lacking, and I feel it needs a deeper voiced Eddie to combine with it to give it a more menacing feel.

So yeah, all in all I'm meh on these guys. Unlike the last pack, this one doesn't give me enough incentive to get them. Not even Venom.

That said, I kind of feel for Widow. Since she was a late reveal, people seem to be blaming the character for "taking the place" of a Capcom rep, and I feel like that may overshadow everything else about her.

I'm a fan of the Winter Soldier from the Cinematic Universe so I'm okay with his appearance though admittedly I'm a little disappointed with his move set. Though I love that super where he scraps his bionic arm across the ground for an uppercut. First thought? Grand Uppah!

Venom's voice sounded a lot better when Max did that pitch alteration. Though I think a better choice would have been something like this...

Max made a Real Talk video on the subject of Guest Fighters and whether they're ultimately good or bad. While Infinite isn't the main focus, he does mention it and the MvC series a few times.

  • Max's overall view is that guest characters are generally a good thing, since they tend to get people super excited and they have the potential to bring in people from outside the regular fanbase (i.e. Noctis Lucis Caelum appearing in Tekken 7 could potentially take Final Fantasy fans and make them Tekken fans as well). He does bring up that guest characters could potentially take up space from other characters, but thinks that the trade-off is Worth It.
  • In regards to the history of guest characters, two specific games he brings up are the Street Fighter Alpha games (the Final Fight characters in those games were technically guest characters) and X-Men: Children of the Atom (Akuma appearing as a guest character in an X-Men fighting game is more or less why the MvC series exists), and hopes that Capcom will eventually include a guest character(s) in either the Street Fighter or MvC series.
  • While bringing up the Ninja Turtles being included in Injustice 2, he mentions people joking about the X-Men potentially being included in that game before they're included in Infinite ("Don't, don't tal- no. Let's just- I don't find it funny.")

[up]I can support his first statement. I don't think I would have brought Tekken 7, or even played it much if it wasn't for Akuma's inclusion. It got me interested in the first place, and made me think he could be a character I could easily get to grips with, since I struggled to grasp 3D fighters like Tekken.

While guest fighters are good idea generally, the same can't be said when the game already has "major crossover" as its theme.

I kind of agree with that. When the game is about characters from X and characters from Y crashing together, a character from Z kind of muddies it in a way that guest-fighters in a game about a single setting don't.

I'll say this again, right now MVC needs to focus on having a better roster to win the audience back before even entertaining such a risky move.

The only one I think would be deem acceptable are Darth Vader & Sora.

Do that and give them a trailer that depicts their collision as Asura facing his greatest challenge.

I know you're being kind of sarcastic but some really hype, Smash Bros. style trailers would do this game some good.

I wasn't really being sarcastic; I just completely forgot that MVCI wasn't doing trailers like that. I agree that such trailers would be fun, and probably help their hype a bit.

With a character whose gimmick is that she can beat anyone and a guy who once beat up God, it seemed like a clear joke to make, you know?

Her super could be a Raging Demon style move that takes both characters off-screen and damage just happens. They return in a tidal wave of squirrels.

You know what would be good PR? A gameplay demo. Anyone who's still following the game up till now will have at least heard about the praise the gameplay seems to get, often being touted as one of the only redeeming factors of Infinite. Give players a chance to try out the game with a limited roster (which would probably end up just being Chun-Li, X, Iron Man, and C. Marvel), and see if the gameplay can convince more people who're still on the fence about Infinite at this point.

You know what I found out? There actually is a gameplay demo on the PSN store right now. I don't remember seeing anyone mention it here or elsewhere really, but I've been occupied all week. It's seems to have been available since the 22nd, according to PSN.

You know what else? They somehow managed to botch this up too, IMO. It's a time-limited trial, the demo is exclusive to PS Plus users, it requires PS Plus to play (there are no offline modes, so I guess it makes sense. And you can only play Casual Matches at that), and it's only active from 24th at 8 am to the same time on the 27th.

I feel like this is botched because they could've just had a standard gameplay demo, on all consoles, with no time limit (especially not on a holiday weekend), and an offline match option... and just let the gameplay speak for itself, which probably would've helped them more than what they're doing at the moment. Hell, advertising the game at all would help them... It almost feels like they're afraid to let people know that this game exists, which makes all the word of mouth that much stronger.

If it was going to be a time limit demo than you might as well have access to entire roster excluding the DLC. Fucking christ, why can't they just something for once!
