Hey, married military man (married man in general, actually) playing poker on some night when they have nothing to do was practically stereotypical in NA. Or so I heard.

I like your story, Berserker. Do keep us posted.

[up]That 'fic's still going pretty well. I won't say anything else. Don't want to spoil anything.

Incidentally, I started writing my own story just now... and I can't say I was expecting to write the lyrics to a Metal song in the process. But that's exactly what I did. :V

Hey now, you can spoil stuff. That's why we have spoiler tags.

I'm curious to see what you come up with. And...how a metal song came of it.

[up]Well, basically, there's a side character who happens to be a metalhead, and Nick finds the lyrics to one of the songs she's listening to surprisingly appropriate for his current situation. And then I just said 'f@#k it' and wrote up the whole thing while I was at it.

About your story, I especially liked how you handled the reveal of Finnick as the drug dealer. I don't think many people had seen him in that light, myself included. :V

If you feel uncomfy with dogs in this setting, you can always substitute it with Hogs playing poker. Like them Klingons. [lol] Well actually wolves and foxes (and bears that look like dogs) kinda work too.

I'll get around to the next chapter of the fic about the "completely routine drug bust case" later. I'm in the office and fanfiction dot net is blacklisted.

[up]Good idea, but I've settled on it now. Besides, I remembered that apparently there's a band called 'The Beagles', which in my mind more-or-less confirms that they're kicking around somewhere. Otherwise no-one would know what a 'Beagle' is.

Great for you. Can't wait to see what you have come up with...

Well anyway, I need to justify them animal crossing new leaf crossovers sometime.

Dog breeds is one problem, the other is the existence of a "hairless ape" for a mayor.

EDIT: Oh, and "reptiles" like Kapp'n too.

Well, and apes in general.

I love the fact that your office specifically blacklisted fanfiction. I guess the medium has more notoriety than I thought.

I think for the most part, admin just block everything that doesn't related with work. Youtube and Facebook included. That's what I do if I become admin and asked to reduce bandwith.

Yep all the unproductive sites are banned. They missed reddit and twitch and tv tropes though. [lol]

Lemme type out my thoughts a bit later, it is hard on this device. I just read it...

Aww, and here I thought they were being progressive, in a weird sort of way.

Ok thoughts time.

  • DART GUN! By the way, buy Judy's Disney Infinity figure. So cool! I bought 2 already!
  • Nick is being too nice, he's almost getting killed by Finnick. Is Finnick gone a bit savage, though? Probably from whiffing the drugs? I would like to think they're buddies even after Nick's a cop.
  • Chapter 2 and it's an action sequence already! Whoooa. This gonna be a Buddy Cop Show at some point? It's presented as a more action than usual Police Procedural for now.
  • Someone iced the guy who says Ice 'em. Though my issue with that part is how does a random citizen recognize Mr. Big? Or is this Nick telling the tale, and the citizen is just reporting a body they found on the creek.

  • I would...but I don't have the game. So kinda pointless. tongue

  • The movie is a bit vague about how close Nick and Finnick actually are, which is something I'm going to expand upon in the next chapter. Let's just say Nick has a lot of reasons to hold back, and Finnick has a lot of reasons to be pissed.

  • Wasn't really the intention, but I do write a lot of Kung Fu Panda fics (including one alongside this), so that's probably why there's more action here. I actually have to keep reminding myself not to get too martial-artsy.

  • That last line was more for dramatic effect than anything. She discovered a body; whether or not she recognized it is kind of irrelevant. It is implied by some of the books that Mr. Big is a public face though. Just a more respectable one.

Thank you for these in-depth comments by the way. smile

There's a few select fandoms I read from, including Zootopia at the moment, but not much else unless it's specifically recommended to me.

Randomly, I buy infinity figures even though I never intend to play it. Just a selection.

I could use a bit of help on my fic actually if anyone's up for it. So next chapter is going to have Nick interrogating Finnick, no surprise there. The problem is that it quickly becomes kind of a personal conversation and interrogations are typically monitored. While Nick's past misdeeds were forgiven, it doesn't strike me as the kind of thing he'd want to bring up knowing that he's under surveillance.

Any thoughts?

[up] Well, now I'm real interested in what's going on between them. I'd personally think that Nick doesn't really care that much for procedure, so even if the conversations were monitored he'd probably get carried away. Incidentally, do you think of Finnick's 'friendship' with him being purely rooted in business? I had always assumed it was more than that; while I still haven't settled on anything properly on my writing, I did come up with a scene where Finnick chases away a bunch of Boomerang Bigot predators trying to muzzle Nick. With a shotgun that's twice as long as him.

[up][up]Loving the story so far, Beserker. Makes me feel inadequate tongue.

As for that scene: Finnick's easily the type of guy who would instigate something first. Nick would try and keep the interrogation on-topic, but it would eventually get to him. If the situation escalated too quickly, however, whoever was monitoring the room would end the interrogation before anything happened. Nick needs to remain calm for the most part and refrain from reactive too noticeably to anything Finnick says, and if he makes a retort or comeback, it needs to be subtle, so that nothing is suspected. Also, while Finnick is characterized to have the shorter temper, it'd be more dramatic if Nick were the one to suddenly snap (violently or otherwise).

My fanfiction.net account, for those brave enough.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think I know what I want to do now. smile

One thing I'm quickly learning about writing Zootopia fics: Don't get too hung up on following police procedures and just write the damn story.

But procedures are still important (with some Artistic License here and there)? So yer not gonna go Buddy Cop Show... [lol]

Is Nick going to become a cowboy? Is he really going to Rage Quit the police force? Find out next time.

Isn't Zootopia pretty much a Buddy Cop Show anyway? It's even listed on that page.

That is true, but your fic is procedural so far. :)

Not that it's bad to be, but I am just waiting for the guy to snap because he's had enough as an excuse for a return to non-stop action.

(Or not...)

Actually it could be Film Noir. One cop, a harsh world, and copious amounts of introspection... now you only need the weird lighting, perpetual gloom/night and/or rain, and turning Judy into a femme fatale... [lol]
