Disney's Live-Action Thread

Becuase the amount of Live Action remake threads are getting cluttery, I made this thread so people could discuss all of them in one neat place. For ease of catching up, I'll post all the Live action Disney movies we have and the movies that will be coming soon.

Well, at least they probably won't white-wash it. I hope.

Any States-known Middle-Eastern actors they might cast? Only ones I can think of are Faran Tahir and Shaun Toub.

[up][up] Looks like Disney wants their own prequel since Warner Bros. already took Peter Pan from them.

Someone made a Peter Pan prequel?

[up]Yeah, just called Pan. Peter's literally some Dickensian street urchin now, the Indians are a bunch of white people with a white savior chosen one prophecy surrounding "The one who wears the Pan", Peter gets to Neverland when he and a bunch of other orphans are kidnapped by Blackbeard to become child-slaves in a mine and the young Captain Hook just sounds like someone wanted to do Jack Sparrow as a bad Elvis impression instead of a Keith Richards one.

Still better then Maleficent though.

I think Pan looks pretty cool. And Hugh Jackman's Blackbeard is shaping up to be an absolute blast.

Just heard about the Genies prequel.

Well, Disney needs to find a better comedian since Robin is dead. :C Poor Robin.

Weird Al Yankovic and Seth Mc Farlane are the only good comedians (plus they can sing and dance!) that I can find a good replacement for. But I highly doubt that would be possible.

But, since it's probably going to NOT be a musical (which I don't mind), and instead will be more magical/dramatized, I think someone like Matt Smith (yes, I know it's stupid but he did a good job as [SPOILER] in Terminator: Genisys) or Elijah Wood would be perfect for that job.

If they actually can succeed in making of the film, I think my dream of Benedict Cumberbatch playing Jarfar in 'Disney's live-actionised Aladdin' would come true. Upon a star, that is.

...GET IT? Cause it's Disney!

{Notices that Alladin is getting a live-action prequel. Also notices a slew of live-action Disney adaptations in the works.}

...

WHY?!

(Okay, I know why, but I still don't see what gives them the right to rape our childhoods like this, is all I'm saying.)

Can we get actual middle eastern actors for this?

I'm just hoping the story is still inspired by something from the 1001 Nights, even if loosely, rather than just being lip service.

Though given the way Genie works in the movie, and the fact that the movie is specifically about Genie, I suppose that's doubtful. I at least hope they throw out the "ten thousand years" bit.

I think I'm gonna run away from this thread if things keep getting out of hand.

So are they just gonna remake EVERY fantasy-oriented Disney Animated Canon at this point?

If they ever decide to remake Lion King with ugly CGI animals, I'll quit Disney forever.

Good God! How many films are they going to remake in live action? Are we going to be seeing a live action Home On The Range? Or Treasure Planet? Or even a live-action Frozen?

Also... [up] Now that you've said that, it's going to happen. You know it...

For that matter, why the heck are they announcing all these movies so quickly? Literally my last post before the Sword and the Stone accouncement was my reaction to the Aladdin Genie Prequel announcement.

It almost gives the impression that these things are gonna get crapped out one after the other rapid fire to cash in on a passing fad... Nah! Disney would never do such a thing...

Actually, I'm sorta ok with the Sword in the Stone. I like the original movie (in spite of its flaws - e.g. some of the voice acting in the original dub - the Portuguese dub is better), and it can benefit from some expansion in terms of an expansion of some of its themes. Though it can go horribly wrong, on the other hand.

I just hope they don't try to remake The Three Caballeros. That was the Disney movie of my childhood.

I'll be okay with a live action Sword and the Stone if it draws more from the later parts of the Once and Future King novel.

I sense/hope like more than half of these things are going to end up in Development Hell.

At least some of them are going to tank otherwise. Simple oversaturation matters.

@Aldo They likely will make a live action Frozen considering how big a money maker the original movie was.

I think a live action remake of Sword in the stone isn't a awful idea, but the fact that they're just so many of these films being announced so often is a bit aggravating. I just don't get it. Why do they need so many of them? I get that Maleficent and Cinderella did good but I don't feel like that really warrants all of these live action remakes and reboots and prequels and stuff.

I wonder if that Chip and Dale's live action movie is going to be a thing and does well(at least in a financial way) if that means that we'll see live action remakes of their cartoon shows.

Must we do to the Disney Afternoon what has already been done to our parents' childhood cartoons?

I'm not saying it will happen, but I feel like it might if that Chip and Dale movie is a hit in some way.

The Little Mermaid was a gigantic moneymaker, too, and they haven't accounted a live action adaptation of that yet (Though at this rate, I'm expecting the announcement any day now).

I seriously doubt Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Frozen, and Moana are gonna get live action adaptations any time soon. They're way too recent. Why should they release basically the same movie but in live action a couple years after the original hits theaters? No, if they ever do a live action Frozen, it'll be decades from now when I'm a grumpy middle-aged man whining about how all the Disney movies were better back in my day.

Though honestly, I have a feeling the "live action remake" fad will have died out by then.

An underwater setting is much more difficult to portray in live action than a surface world, and Atlantis Is Boring is still a major public perception trope.

Must we do to the Disney Afternoon what has already been done to our parents' childhood cartoons?

At least it's kind of a step up from Disney stubbornly keeping it buried in a petty fashion. At least there's a minor chance those attempts (although I highly doubt we'll ever see a live action Tale Spin or Darkwing Duck) might be good (Bonkers was, after all, created with a cartoon-live action combo in mind, and it'll be hard for Rescue Rangers to be worse than the Alvin movies), like inspiring animated spinoff revivals.

[up]Yeah, that's a good point. They'd have to go out of their way to make The Little Mermaid look good in live action, which would require actual skill and effort from the filmmakers, which doesn't gel with Live Action Disney's "crap out a bazillion movies as fast as you can" philosophy.

Guess it'll just be ugly CGI genies and Dumbos for the Live Action Disney lineup...

I think it's because they don't want to compete or cause confusion with Sofia Coppola's upcoming adaptation.

Holy cow real life Princess Jasmine.
