In a story i'm planning to write, the main antagonist pretends to be a wealthy, "on the up and up" businessman who runs an honest and legitimate business. My current problem is, i don't know what to call his business.

At first, i was just going to use the character's surname and put the words "Industries" or "Enterprises" after them, but now, that just seems to lazy. I've been trying to come up with clever business names that sound innocent but do somewhat reflect the antagonist's villainous intents.

I considered Chaos Industries or Chaotic industries, but that seemed to obviously villainous, especially since the logo of the company is a ghostly, hooded figure holding a globe. I then considered names like: World Industries, Global industries, World Works, Globe works, Global works, World Wide works, Global works Industries, Global works Enterprises, but all of these names have been taken in some way.

I need an original idea, someone please dazzle me! Keep in mind though, the company's logo is a ghostly, hooded figure holding a globe in its hand.

Illumination Industries? Sort of a ironic title based upon the idea that hooded and being shrouded in mystery is the base opposite of being Illuminated?

It might help if you describe your antagonist, his intentions, and what kinds of ways he'd go about reaching his goal. I assume he's (Faux) Affably Evil. Does he want to take over the world, or just his area of business? What does the business specialize in?

For example, in one project I have a villain-type character who runs a company that specializes in Magitek. It's called "Elemental Industries."

[up] My antagonist is a man who seeks to cause chaos and destruction just for the fun of it (also because he's had a rough life and is a firm believer in the old saying "Miserable being must find more miserable being, then he's happy"). His company was originally meant to keep him and his activities funded, now it serves as a cover for the latter, since he's already made sure that he'll remain wealthy for good long time. As for what the company does, it has many purposes: a shipping firm, a manufacturing industry and especially a research and development company.

I have some doubts about why a (seemingly) Chaotic Evil character would bother forming a company — something a Lawful Evil or Neutral Evil character is more likely to do — but I'll put that aside for now.

One thing you could try is a Meaningful Name. For example, look up a bunch of stuff related to chaos. The Greeks personified everything — their goddess of Chaos and Discord was Eris.

Another route you could take is Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness. Long words tend to go over the masses' heads, in fiction, so you can pack a lot of meaning in a company's name using that.

And one trick a lot of real-world companies use is to just say what the company is/does in its name. ("Microsoft" originally meant "Microcomputer Software")

One name suggestion that comes to mind is "Discordian Unity." It sounds pretentious enough that people won't notice its meaning right away and enough to be run by a villain, it describes the villain's ulterior motive (discord/chaos), it explains that the company does everything ("unity"), and it's just friggin' cool-sounding.

Mayhem Mechanics? No, you'd want something that draws people in rather than terrify them.

Freedom Unlimited? It sounds rather nice until you realize that too much freedom leads to anarchy.

<Insert Last Name here> Industries? It worked for Luthor and Wayne.

I thought about it and came up with this: Expansion Works Enterprises (or Industries). Upon giving it more thought, it sort of works because it allows the villain to say that he named his company that because he wanted to expand his business' success and efficiency to the rest of the world (or something like that), when in reality, what he really wants to expand is his power and chaotic desires

What do you think?

Enterprises works better than Industries due to a minor alliteration. Expansion does address it's main focuses, shipping, manufacturing, and research. Doesn't seem very evil, though, which does work from a deconstructive point of view.

[up][up] Meh. Kinda dull, doesn't sound menacing or imposing or really all that big.

What about Erde Enterprises? German for 'Earth', not completely unpronounceable in English or Japanese, gives it a global feel in more ways that one, but also linked with the idea that it's an 'outsider' somehow. Even though it's completely integrated into the local culture (think Volkswagen or Mercedes here).

EDIT: Don't forget to Google it, too! (There is apparently an 'Erde Enterprises' in the UK, but amusingly it seems to operate out of a single office.)
