What would you say is/are the greatest action scenes in cinema? There should be metric tons of candidates to choose from.

If you ask me, I'd say the Omaha Beach scene from Saving Private Ryan, with the climactic battle from The Avengers being close second.

The Mask of Zorro had some of the best cinematic sword fights ever filmed, and all within the confines of (more or less) realistic situations note . When accounting for more fantastical sword duels, Anakin vs. Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith is right up there. Sometimes CGI makes people believe nothing was really there, but the swordplay between the two of them was genuine.

Superman vs. Zod in Man of Steel is also one of the greatest superhero bashes ever put in live action. The fight between Superman and Zod, Ursa and Non in Superman II is still impressive today, considering they had to do things with more practical effects.

Honorable mention. I know it technically isn't "film", but whatever.

Seconding Superman vs Zod and the Smallville fight.

This is one of the best action scenes ever put to film

Also the river battle from Desolation of Smaug for pure entertainment factor.

The final fight with the mutos in sanfrancisco in Film/Godzilla2014 is a great monster brawl. With gypsy danger vs. oatchi being second and Godzilla vs. destoroyah is third.

I don't know how much the Toei Summer Movies qualify, as some of them are barely feature-length, but this is one of the highlights of Paradise Lost

The beach assault scene in Battle Royale II: Requiem. Can't find a clip that just shows that, I'm afraid.

I liked the final assault on the Russian/Koreans base in No retreat no surrender 2. That shit was crazy. Hell any of the action scenes in that movie were good.....memories.

But storming the beaches of normandy in saving private ryan gave me the chills. Grab some headphones, crank up the volume and tell me you don't get goose bumps.
