And considering that unlike Arachne, Medusa didn't do anything wrong (Poseidon raped her in a temple of Athena, but Athena punished HER instead) and can't even look at someone without killing them, no there's no reason for her to accept this. She wound up alone in a cave far away from anyone else when Perseus killed her.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatSo we're sure they're not using a version of the story where she was like that all along?
Anyway yeah, Medusa is now synonymous with "hot freaky snake chick" nowadays, AFAIK. It's not considered a tragedy to look freaky like that anymore.
The tragedy is now in her isolation. I don't know when the shift happened, even Jim Henson portrayed Medusa as irredeemably evil back in the 80's.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great... how is an entire film gonna treat her cursed face in an entire movie starring her?? People TURN TO STONE at the very sight of her!
Play it up for tragedy, duh.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatYet this is Sony. <<...
The company's animations known for comedy a lot. Worst offender: the Lorax(Though close enough to Horton).
Shit you're right. Okay, I take it all back, this movie's going to suck worse than a basket of leeches.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI'm not going to dread about this but I'm going to be cautiously optimistic.
You're talking about someone being mutilated. It's well and good to come to terms with being "different, " whether you were born that way or made that way, but that's a whole different idea from someone having something objectively horrific done to them and ending up being happy about it.
In a real-world context, choosing to be a horrific spider monster speaks of either a bizarre romantization of disability, or an outright indicator of mental illness. It's disturbing, and it's not much less disturbing when transposed into a fantasy cartoon.
Are you kidding me? How is simply becoming a different species comparable to either "mutilation" or a "disability?"
What about the millions of people who feel they'd love to be robots? Or dragons? Or furries? They're romanticizing disability and mutilation now?
Nice underhanded way of saying I must be "mentally ill" like that's an insult or a disgusting thing to be...and all just because I think being a huge spider would be fun. I can see absolutely no disadvantage to it if I retained my sapience, other than how other human beings would treat me, but that would be *their* problem.

bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons. But Arachne was turned into an itsy bitsy spider, not a giant one.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatThe thing there is that if it happened due to a random event, or because of choice, Arachne deciding to stay that way is one thing. But it's a punishment. Presumably Arachne really doesn't enjoy it. What if she was arachnophobic?
Not Three Laws compliant. She can't be. She's the first spider.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatSorry for bumping this. But a bit of sad news of an announcement about this. Craig Mccraken's twitter revealed that Lauren Faust is off of Medusa. Due to creative differences with the executives.

I cast the card of the necromancer◊ to share bad news.
Lauren Faust is no longer directing "Medusa". Or involved with Sony.
Why?
Guess. Just guess.
Want a hint? Have three:
- Genndy had the same issue as her.
- It's a classic example of executive meddling.
- Sort of rhymes with "retroactive winces".
Take your time. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
EDIT: Dude! You 'd me! Not cool!
EDIT 2: Bah, I guess since the cat's out of the bag, should we just consider Sony the Konami of animation studios now?

Yep, Sony is the Konami of animation.
Just a while ago, I literally had the idea of how there could be a Tropaholics Anonymous on "creative differences survivors". So far, its members include:
- Genndy Tartakovsky
- Hideo Kojima
- and the newest member, Lauren Faust
They are...Creative Differences Anonymous.
Er...does thinking of stuff like this count as Gallows Humor?

I came to this thread to discuss some things about Greek mythology (namely that the myth of Medusa being raped by Poseidon in Athena's temple only came around at a later time, and the initial myth was that Medusa was born as a monster), but now I see that Sony has fucked up once again...
STOP RUINING THINGS, SONY. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS KONAMI IS, BUT IT SOUNDS DISAPPOINTING.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?STOP RUINING THINGS, SONY. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS KONAMI IS, BUT IT SOUNDS DISAPPOINTING.
To clarify, Konami is a video game company best known for titles such as Metal Gear, Contra, and Silent Hill, among others. Most of their games have been very well-received.
But earlier this year, Konami made the extremely bad descison of canceling what was going to be the next installment in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hills, which was to have been developed by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and acclaimed horror filmmaker (as well as BFF to Kojima) Guillermo del Toro and to star Norman Reedus from the TV series, The Walking Dead. Why was it canceled? No one knows for sure. I'd say the heads of Konami had one too many snorts of cocaine, but that's just me. To make matters worse, there have been recent reports about how Konami as a place to work in has become an absolute hell. To a point where it feels a lot like something out of George Orwell's 1984.
To make matters even worser, Konami has also decided to screw Kojima even more by removing his now-defunct production team's name, the logo for their FOX Engine, and even his own name itself(!) from the cover of his most recent game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Unsurprisingly, Konami has been tight-lipped about, well, everything. But it seems that they've decided to cut all ties with making video games for consoles and instead focus on mobile games and...pachinko machines (and possibly invest in more cocaine).
So when I said that Sony is the Konami of animation, it basically means that Sony is kinda behaving like Konami and screwing over very creative people, namely Lauren Faust and, on a similar case, Genndy Tartakovsky.
Hope that helped explain things. Also, I'm sorry if you were left horrified about what you've just read.

Oh yeah, I'd read about what they did to Silent Hills. A couple people on the Gravity Falls subreddit mentioned it when Del Toro (who I happen to have great admiration towards) tweeted praise for the show, and they told me about the Pachinko machine.
I didn't know it went as far as them screwing over the guy behind their biggest franchise, though.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Wait, what?!
when Del Toro (who I happen to have great admiration towards) tweeted praise for the show
BLARGH! I must find proof of this!
(5-6 minutes of nonstop scrolling through GDT's Twitter page later...)
Oh, man. My finger's killing me. I never realized how often he tweets.
(A few more finger-killing scrolls later...)
Aw, screw it!
(Googles "guillermo del toro gravity falls")
...Yup. That's real praise.
And Alex Hirsch is fully aware of it. Nice.
Del Toro is awesome, dude. He apparently likes Over the Garden Wall and Steven Universe as well. I hope he gets to make Pacific Rim 2 one of these days.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?"pick up with the young Medusa, who has angered the wrong goddess"
I am not sure, but that sounds like they kept the whole rape part away. It actually sounds like they removed the entire part Poseidon plays, he is afterall the reason Athena became angry. I wonder if this version even is a priestess of Athena.
If someone could toss Lauren a Break so she could catch one, that'd be great.

Gonna have to side with Born on this. This isn't just making the best of a bad situation, it's actively choosing to accept something terrible and it leaves one with a bad taste to say the least.
