There's a whole lot of theme naming going on, and not only with Nanana — see Maboro Shiki.
Nanana herself is great, but her male opposite is also surprisingly likeable. I don't expect that the mystery of WHO killed her, or why she's still around, won't be solved in the episodes allotted to this though.
I like our two protagonists already. They make a cute couple.
Besides that, the premise itself seems rather enticing. Usually L Ns are much more formulaic, so one about treasure-hunting sounds like it could be a lot of fun if done right. Also, Shiki is best dorm manager.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI know it's weird but one of the first things I thought was "If his love interest is a ghost can a ghost get pregnant?"
It wouldn't be the first time in a work of fiction that ghosts could have children with the living. Youmu from Touhou Project is a half ghost.
The thing is, Juugo can't even touch Nanana, unless Nanana seems to want to.
Also I kind of wonder if, rather than Nanana moving on, if one of the subplots will deal with those who haven't moved on with their lives since she died. I mean, look at Shiki, who seems to be stuck there as much as Nanana is.
In any case, the focus will likely be on Nanana's Collection. Artifacts with mysterious powers is ALWAYS a hook... Like oh that necklace on Nanana's neck.
I made a page for those interested in following the series by the way. No picture yet, but I'll try to dig up something when I get home from the office.

By the way, if people are wondering just why the LN art (of which I uploaded one for the page image) seems so retro and familiar, it's because it was done by the same artist who did Tenchi Muyo.
Episode 1. In which there's Terraria.
The teaser sequence shows promise. And the OP doesn't detract either.
Shiki seems like a relaxed individual. And I like her voice.
So, advance payment, no refunds. Nothing fishy can possibly be up with that.
"She's a ghost. She doesn't count." I like how she seemed oblivious to her even being there in the first place.
Okay, that's a good demonstration of her actually being a ghost. With selective touch.
This seems like it'll be a fun anime.
Check out my fanfiction!First thoughts: Animation looks good—the art style is definitely not as retro as the work page's image, and the movement is fluid and lively. The landscape is pretty well-done, too. The ridiculous Male Gaze annoys me to no end. Juugo's a fun character to watch, though. The first episode didn't give any real indication of what's so important about Nanana's mythical treasure horde, even though the pacing was really fast otherwise.
All in all, it looks promising and I plan to keep with it.
Just watched Ryuugajou Nanana No Maizoukin Episode 1....it's now one of my favourites of this season so far. I will do a brief review in bullet points because I'm still gushing all over it (I blame all the disappointments):
-Dynamic intro, and strangely funny with how she narrates in a carefree voice while her friends and her escape deadly traps. The dissonance is hilarious.
-The opening strangely reminded me of Ben To, which is a good thing since I don't usually like openings.
-Man made island with a strong student population? Technologically advanced too? Academy City ver. 2.0., lol.
-Likeable protagonist, he is a bit of a pervert, but this trait is not over emphasized, nor does he only think of boobs and female anatomy. Still, willingly letting your arm to cop a feel was sort of awesome.
Definitely following this.
So Ryuugajou Nanana No Maizoukin Episode 2.
I'm still not sure what the show aims to be (sci-fi? comedy/parody? supernatural? mystery? all of the above?), or why I'm following it myself (the humour? likeable protagonist? the Myth Arc? ridiculous premise and characters? the Genre-Busting?), but I'm sure as hell enjoying it.
Today was introduced the girl detective (who, contrarily to other self proclaimed detective, actually lives up to the title) and her assistant trap maid, as well as the President of the Adventure Club and his Vice-President obsessed with him. Slow paced episode (except in the latter moments), but quite fun, though I had to go back rewatch episode 1 because I apparently missed an after credits scene that set up the beginning of this episode.
Like I said, only in the last parts of the episode does the plot takes up speed, with our MC having to clear a trapped room to pass the enrollement test of the Adventure Club. The solution was quite clever, and the fact that the girl detective was able to solve it makes her another of my favorite character of the show.
All in all, will still follow.

And on the meta side of things, with this show we have have TWO series this season with a strange girl voiced by Kana Asumi... and a trap voiced by Kana Hanazawa.

Never trust a maid in this universe.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialLol at the maid trauma. I wonder if Juugo will start switching fetishes.
Also, did he really jack it at a convenience store?
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialEpisode 2. In which there's detective work.
She doesn't eat pudding. She inhales pudding.
Not exactly modest. Well, considering how comfortable she is with the smell of garbage, it's not surprising she's comfortable with other things the average girl wouldn't be comfortable with.
That punch was undeserved.
Why does anime always give the impression that guys should be into girls, but it's bad to be into anything specific?
"Not a boy. Trap." Yeah, the ambiguous gender of anime.
"What's your name, Yama Yuugo?" I wonder if that's funnier than that she does it again, seconds later. She certainly is one to question what seems obvious.
"I doubt we'll ever meet again." Incoming New Transfer Student. Well, two, probably.
Gotta admit, I like her confidence and disposition.
Another maid. Totally not bait for any kind of trap. Little bit of a yandere, there. But somehow, random violence like that seems more okay than the more standard Pervert Revenge Mode.
Nana's obvious reason for not telling him was rather obvious. And she basically told him seconds before. Also, I like how she's ever so subtly manipulating him into saying stuff she wants to hear.
There's something very Portal about that room...
Hey, she's actually thinking about the room as a puzzle, rather than an obstacle course.
He managed to get her to blush. That's one thing she's uncomfortable with.
I have a new favourite character.
Wasn't it just a bit of adjusting?
Check out my fanfiction! There was probably some incredibly plot important object in his pocket, which will be revealed without buildup in 10 episodes.
And I also got huge Portal vibes from the obstacle course.

Portal 2, to be precise.
Episode 2:
- So Juugo has a maid fetish. After what transpired in this episode, he might want to switch hobbies.
- Tensai's pretty confident in her detective skills, and she does have the potent bite to back up her bark.
- That test was quite elaborate. But to Tensai, pick up some clues here and there, and it becomes child's play.
- And yes, she was totally rocking that bag/hat combination.
Whoops. Fixed.

Wasn't her name Tensai?
Just caught up with this one. Much better than expected.
Tensai wearing the towel in a bow after comming out shower made me crack up. You know who's idea that was.
So...they're a yuri couple then? Silly Japan.
Would anyone be surprised if Nanana turned herself into a ghost in order to create a neat mystery for everyone? See seems really upset about her condition. And the president asked her to drop by, so I doubt she's stuck in the room.

The Kana Hana trap was so unfair. And Tensai's a great addition to the cast.
The puzzle room was awesome, but it's Juugo's sturdiness that really caught my attention.

Yeah, it was weird how quickly that became obvious. Abusive childhood much?
Uh how? If anything it suggests a martial arts background, as the term ukemi was specifically used — aka the safe way to fall on a practice mat without hurting yourself.

I was not aware of the term "ukemi", and my first impression was mostly in the context of Juugo being kicked out of his house being the first thing we learn about him. Which, depending on Juugo's age, would count as child abuse. And learning to take a hit is something children who are physically abused learn quickly.
Like I mentioned though, ukemi is a specific term — it's used in Judo (or was it Aikido) to describe the way to roll with a throw unto the mats, because otherwise a practitioner will be in for a lot of broken bones.
See Wikipedia's definition below:

Well, they're the ones who mentioned it, not him, weren't they? Which means they'd do it from their perspective, no matter the source of his skill.
But abusive childhood doesn't make a lot of sense considering his personality. Well, it could still be anime abusive childhood where it's just played for laughs, but he doesn't really show other signs of being abused, so coming to the conclusion that a martial arts ability must necessarily derive from an abusive childhood is reading into it a bit much. Could still be true, though.
Check out my fanfiction!
So, Nanana's Buried Treasure. It looks like its gonna be a nice show.
Well then, let's unravel the mysteries of this island, created by seven people! Ha, Nanae Island.
