Why is [blank] Ship So Popular?

[up]There is easy answer to Elsanna. Shippers gonna ship plain and simple which is sad because it was nice to see platonic love being present just as important as romantic love. Also the "incest" part of the ship really doesn't bother me at all really so your not alone on that.

[up][up]Disney essentially wrote a coming-out story for Frozen. That really does not help.

[up]May I know why people are so eager to see Frozen as a coming-out story? Because that's not how I understood the overall theme...

((IMO, if Disney really wanted to make a Coming-out story from this movie, they'd use a girl in Kristoff's place and be done with it. He is a girl in the original fairy tale anyway)).

[up]Because half the movie is about a girl who's different from others and is uncomfortable with who she is and has to hide it from everyone, and then when she's outed, is forced to flee and seclude herself just to find a place where she can be comfortable with/embrace her identity, but then with the support of her friends and family manages to successfully integrate herself with the society that she's always been unable to fully join?

(the other half being the love and support of said family and friends)

There's also the interp that Elsa's a stand-in for those with mental disorders too. Or any "differently disadvantaged" group, really.

Dave Strider X John Egbert. They have had no Ship Tease and are completely unconnected in terms of personality, and yet it's by far the biggest ship in the utterly insane fandom.

Invader Zim and his nemesis Dib is popular amongst the Invader Zim fandom. I never quite understood as to why the ship exists as they both hate each other.

Why is Harry/Snape popular?

Harry/Hermione is popular because they're two of the leads, thus there are the characters that the audience knows the best; I couldn't really tell you much about Ginny's personality, but I could tell you a lot about Hermione. It's only natural that many fans want them together, as they've grown attached to the characters and want to see them happy. I'm also pretty sure that there's actually a bit of legitimate Ship Tease unlike some of the other things we're going to see in this thread, like Harry/Snape mentioned above.

For Pokémon, what's with Paul/Dawn? They barely have any interaction with each other from what I can tell, yet it's one of the most prominent ships.

I think Paul is shipped with Dawn because Ash is shipped with a lot of other people (and Pokemon), and Brock... who does he get shipped with most often? Anyway, Dawn's the only one in the DP group left.

I would expect it to be either Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny, but hell if I know for sure.

[up][up]I don't see Brock get shipped often if at all which is kinda strange if you ask me as he comes off more as a desperate for love type (which isn't surprising considering his parents pretty much ditched him and had him pretty much be the sole parent over their own kids) with some realistic issues behind it.

The only time I have seen it he is either OOC (People seem to forget that Brock is very loyal to the people he cares about.) or he get's rejected horribly for the laughs....

As to the answer from Dawn's side, there are two aspects I could think of:

EDIT: Brock's been out of the Anime for years. In Best Wishes, his schtick was transferred to Oshawott, and, in the current season, Bonnie has a whole new spin on it. Brock will Never Live It Down, though...

[up]Oh no I was aware of that. I was just talking about before that happened they used the Brock tries to flirt with a attractive girl joke too a ridiculous degree before he got shoved out the plot. It was funny for the first few times but after a few seasons? It got old.

Brock gets barely any serious pairings with him included anyway. Which I think is some missed potenial.

And yeah I don't get why anyone would ship canon Paul with someone else. That guy had practically no good qualities from what I recall (which was what differentiated him from the other rivals Ash had before). I have seen some fanfics remedy this by going more into Paul's past to turn him from a Jerkass to a Jerk with a Heart of Gold but very few of them pull it off right

I agree that the Brock flirting with a girl thing got old, but it gave birth to the funniest running gag: Croagunk jabbing Brock in the ass.

Why is Ruby shipped with Weiss so popular? Personally I just don't see that ship working out.

Well, I suppose a lot of people initially fell for the lite Foe Yay dynamic they had. Really most of the content that supports the ship in series comes from the end of S1 and start of S2.

Plus Ruby is the main character, which does also encourage a higher amount of fanfic / art.

In response to my earlier posting...

You know, in Kid Icarus Uprising fandom, Twincest is as common as angel-feathers. (That and Mary Sues). You'll actually be hard-pressed to find fan fiction and fan art that ISN'T "Pitcest" in one way or another, save by a few select authors and artists I can name on one hand (and one of them is me).

Ships, period. I like the occasional ship, but I definitely don't need to pair everybody, or even like it. I prefer no pairings. That being said, I don't know why people bash Harry/Ginny so much. I liked them.

Then the yaoi. This has nothing to do with prejudice, this has partly to do with probability and just generally using my eyes. Most people are not gay. Most characters are not gay, or at least do not set off my gaydar. And that's the end of it. Yaoi is waaaay over-represented in just about every fandom and characters are usually derailed to accomplish it.

And I hate when I'm reading an ok Kid Icarus fic and halfway through the Pits start kissing. It kind of tends to ruin the whole thing, in the same way Sues do. I can deal with it when it's done artfully, but not when it's put in there just for the pitcest. It usually adds nothing.

Also regarding the Harry/Hermione shippers (yes i'm one of them): it seems to be the most realistic relationship for romance to build. Harry and Hermione don't fit perfectly with each other, but they understand each other's faults and strengths and accept that each other are, well, who they are. They confide in each other and trust each other. That's pretty solid relationship material, more than any superficial fluff like kisses and awkward blushing and chest monsters.

Ginny, on the other hand, honestly feels like a bad fanfiction character. She's got Relationship Sue written all over her. Hey, Harry, what do you like? Quidditch? The Weasleys? Here's one that combines the two in girl form. What's that? she might have a character flaw by being a fangirl? Don't worry, she completely got over that in the background while nobody was watching.

Harry/Luna kinda coulda worked, if it was developed more. Harry was at one of his lowest points in book 5. Luna was pretty much the only one to listen to him, and possibly even shake him out of his funk (with her own weirdness). She also shares some of the pain of losing a parent and growing up as an outcast. The relationship definitely could have grown a lot more. What a waste. =/

Because it would be SO OUT OF CHARACTER for Shesshomaru to be lovey dovey with Inuyasha and he is his brother. To pair them together this have, nay,MUST be incestuous AND abusive.

Sarcasm Mode.

[up][up] re: incest

the simplest explanation is often the best. Character A is hot. Character B is hot. Fanficcer wants to see their two favourite hot characters get together. The end.

the fact that they might be related is only a minor obstacle in seeing this vision fulfilled.
