People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.) http://news.yahoo.com/maria-von-trapp-99-dies-vermont-005546425.html
2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

He's one of those actors that apparently has shown up in a lot of stuff. Just glancing at his resume, he's been in Alien, Big Love, Twin Peaks, The Green Mile, Two-Lane Blacktop, Pretty in Pink, and I could go on if I felt like it. Point is the dude has been in a lot of movies and shows.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?A good actor, and one who often blended well with the scenes in different types of movies. May his memory be eternal.
Violet Brown, the first ever Jamaican supercentenarian and the world's oldest living person, has passed away at age 117.
And she probably would have lived longer had some members of her family not kidnapped her recently (I wish I was joking, but the article elaborates on that). Anyway, the new oldest living person, and the absolute last person verified to have been born in the 19th century, is the Japanese woman Nabi Tajima.

I live in the Twin Cites, and I had no idea who this guy was until today. Still sad that he's gone though.

'Screaming Eagle Of Soul' Charles Bradley Dies At 68
Bradley, known for a powerful and pained rasp that he used to channel both his demons and deep gratitude, released his debut album No Time For Dreaming, at 62. Bradley, who openly shared his idolization of the legendary James Brown after first seeing Brown perform in 1962, became a totemic artist for the Daptone label, best known for its revivalist '60s soul.
"Charles was truly grateful for all the love he's received from his fans and we hope his message of love is remembered and carried on," a statement from Daptone read. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
Born in Gainesville, Fla., Bradley grew up in Brooklyn but left home at the age of 14. "If I'm not wanted, I'm gone. And I left," he said in a 2013 interview. He spent much of his life itinerant, performing at one point in Maine — where his band was disbanded due to the Vietnam draft, as he told the Chicago Tribune in 2011. From there he headed west, working odd jobs and seeking out chances to sing. In his 40s, he moved back to Brooklyn and began performing as James Brown impersonator under the name Black Velvet before being scouted by Gabriel Roth, a Daptone co-founder and recording engineer, though he continued to perform under the pseudonym while developing a career under his given name.
After the release of his debut album, Bradley began touring extensively, invariably closing his shows by descending the stage and thanking his audience, extending hugs to all.
"Charles was somehow one of the meekest and strongest people I've ever known. His pain was a cry for universal love and humanity. His soulful moans and screams will echo forever on records and in the ears and hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share time with him," Gabriel Roth writes in a statement. "I find some solace knowing that he will continue to inspire love and music in this world for generations to come. I told him as much a few days ago. He smiled and told me, 'I tried.' It was probably the simplest and most inspiring thing he ever told me. I think he wanted to hug each person on this planet individually. I mean that literally, and anyone that ever saw him knows that he honestly tried."

Of course, I mostly know him as the Chamberlain from The Dark Crystal. RIP.

He was a really good voice actor. I remember him best as the grandfatherly and ruthlessly evil Master Li from Jade Empire, and the smug as hell Dean Domino from Fallout: New Vegas.
He was fantastic as Pilate in the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar. He was in the original cast, as well. That a great credit to have - that show is a massive part of the rise of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Who knows whether we'd have Cats, Evita, or Phantom of the Opera if JCS hadn't been success.

Truly a God among men. May his work be forever honored.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. No matter you see him as good or not, there's no denying that he's an iconic, legendary businessman who revolutionized human culture with a brand of magazine. Rest in peace.
May he be surrounded by Playdates in bunny suits in the afterlife.

Let us all have a solemn wank in his honour.
But no seriously, R.I.P Hugh, you were a legend.
Aww nuts. I mostly knew him from that scene in the first Avengers movie with Bruce Banner but what a scene it was. RIP.
