I meant, show how creepy to us it would be if people killed each other and pretended it was no big deal. Or deconstructing the mentality of Death (and in this case healing) is Cheap.

Well, what I meant was having what appears to be a high school AU at first, but then gradually reveal that the Sora, Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Naminé etc. in the story are actually the ones we know from canon, only with their memories rewritten so that they think they're ordinary high school students, with no memory of the Keyblade or the Heartless. What's responsible for this would be for you to decide, but I think it's an idea worth exploring.

Or maybe this is a different fic than what you have in mind...

Hrm... I'm probably going to merge Twilight Town and Destiny Islands into a "shared world", but not sure if I should have them as the same school, or if I should keep them separate.

Okay. One thing I really like though is when hints are dropped early on that it's not as innocent a setting as you originally thought. Would you do something like that?

Yes. From Director Marluxia's very presence scaring the crap out of Namine and being rather pleased that she's becoming friends with Sora and others, to Xion's aforementioned... issues... to the perpetually pissed-off spirit that goes on the occasional rampage...

In the Highschool AU opening DI/TT amalgam? No, that's just OG and some FF characters. But in their respective Disney worlds? Yeah, assuming I ever got off my ass long enough to get the fic to that point.

Sora and Riku probably end up in Traverse Town and Hollow Bastion like they did in KHI, Kairi is held captive by Ansem SOD and probably comatose, and the other characters (Namine, Roxas, Xion, etc.) are... somewhere. I dunno yet. Possibly new Worlds, like sticking Namine in Manhattan, etc.

I'd advise you to do a little more with Kairi than that, but other than that it sounds good.

Admittedly, the problem is that I don't really know what to do with Kairi, beyond what's been done in canon. And I'm honestly ashamed of that fact.

Beyond DI being consumed by    DARKNESS   , I don't really have any concrete plans as yet. I think I'm going to hold off on crossing that bridge until I come to it. But within that "highschool up until things go pear-shaped" arc, I'm thinking of maybe trying to do something interesting with the concept of Naimine as a "witch" (as described by DiZ in KHII). I think I might also do some kind of All-Ages Struggle Tournament, mostly so I can have Riku (top student Struggler) go up against Jecht (top faculty Struggler).

Meanwhile, I suppose I need to storm up a trite and cliche first few chapters of a bog-standard Highschool AU fic.

..... shit, I'm going to actually need to read some of them, aren't I?

Alternatively, you could write the first few chapters so that they aren't shitty and avoid turning off all your potential readers who dislike reading things that are shitty.

It's possible to make the high school AU entertaining, after all. There's a Naruto fic called Ricochet that does it funny as hell.

I have no intention of inflicting mechanically bad writing. I might be a troll sometimes, but I'm no sadist (to my readers).

That said, one must bait, before one can switch.

Hmm. There might be some good KH HS AU fics buried in the rough, too. I know there's at least one that has a huge following, though that isn't always an indicator of quality.

So after the HS portion, is it gonna go on to have worldhopping like canon KH, then?

That sounds really awesome. :D As for Kairi, perhaps you could use the manga as a reference? The KH 2 manga in particular really helps flesh out her character beyond what we see in the games. That's if you want to give her a larger spotlight, anyway.

Been doing some brainstorming for that Ven AU, and after looking at the Days timeline, I've noticed that it takes 16 days from when Sora frees Kairi's heart to Ansem's defeat at the end of KH 1 and 24 days for Sora to reach Castle Oblivion.

With this in mind, I'm trying to sort out what Yen Sid would want Ven to do once he finds out he's okay. The way I see it, Ven would want to get a feel for how much the worlds have changed, but after Sora defeats Ansem, he, Donald, and Goofy are left without reliable transportation. With Riku and Mickey also winding up in the castle, do you think Yen Sid would want Ven to go back and investigate?

I think the Organization would probably be aware of his existence by then, and I have a few ideas for how they might handle it, such as fortifying the castle with Lesser Nobodies to prevent interference or at least deter it. I had this vague thought where Ven's arrival causes things to go off the rails. I still need to figure out HOW, but given Xemnas' interest in the Chamber of Waking, I gotta wonder if he'd order Ven to be captured, and quite possibly Riku as well. The basement crew could then be sent there with the added mission of facilitating his capture and potentially Riku's.

It makes me wonder how long it'd take for Marluxia, Axel, and Larxene to catch on, because if there's trouble in the basement levels, it could easily reach the upper levels before long, Marluxia could end up being fully aware that there is another Keyblade wielder that may very well derail HIS plans and try and hasten Sora's brainwashing as a result. One thing I noticed in Co M was a lack of interaction between the two Nobody groups. It's just a matter of how I'd tackle the infighting.

It's that or I have Co M offscreen and have Ven out scouting the worlds for suspicious activity, but I don't know if that'd be as fun. Co M takes place over a relatively short period of time in-canon, and if this fic spread over Days-era, it wouldn't be the only part of the story by a longshot. I just want to make sure the repercussions of his awakening make sense. >/a

@EVA: I'm saying that since the self-insert and his friends are from a world where there's no healing magic or revival spells and their parents are probably dead/heartless/frozen in time and here comes the KH-verse with their White Magic and their probable unhealthy (to them, anyways.) complete disregard of injuries and possible death. Is it right to bring in real-life Combat Pragmatism when dealing with human-like opponents in a Kingdom Hearts fic?

I mean Badass Normals yes, but people who can use magic?

We've only seen mid 18/19th century guns. Stuff like magazines and other such equipment weren't even made yet. And I don't count Xigbar/Braig's bowguns because their clearly running on rule of cool to the Nth degree.

Just finished Distant Hearts. This is actually the first time I've finished a chaptered fic, so that and the amount of time I put into it makes this immensely satisfying.

That said, no more Kingdom Hearts fanfics for me aside from one-shots. I wrote a lot for this series in high school, and I'm honestly kind of sick of it. I'm very much ready to write for a different fandom. Next thing I'm planning is a Skies of Arcadia fic, so I'd say that's different enough.

Been rolling around an idea for a while but sadly never gotten the time to write down. Imagine: Sora and co. sent into a dark, violent No-Fly Zone of space known simply as The Forgotten Worlds. This is where the Organization and Xehanort have set up shop. This here's where the real dark shit takes place, starting at Borderlands towards the edge and further on we hit Fallout, Turok, pirates and Heartless -everywhere-.

Cliche? Probably, but damnit I wanna see it done someday. Fallout's the only section I've put a lot of thought into though, so...fairly far off.

@HF: I don't really understand what you're asking. Can you rephrase it more clearly?

When I mean fighting dirty, I mean stuff like throwing a clod of dirt into Diavolonort's (What I call Younger Xehanort) face to stop him from reversing time and while he's busy getting dirt, pull a gun and shoot him in the face. Or using a trap involving powered glass to blind a glory hound trying to be a Knight In Shining Armor and proceeding to either shanking him in back if it worked or shooting him in the back if it didn't.
