I would recommend a rename, preferably to something that does not include any of "Mom," "Tea" or "Cthulhu."
74 wicks and 122 inbounds. Now, in my mind, while the name isn't that unclear it's a line of dialogue and poorly used.

Edit: Or whatever the term we use is.

I don't know if Mom is really a bad word. Villain Met Mom is really the point of the trope, though mom could be any close relative.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dickthere isn't actually a problem with mom, if it was named Moms Guest Is The Villain i wouldn't complain. it's just "Cthulhu" is misused. also there are others like this under the same index but they're for another day.
@3 that goes for the rest of the index. i think only Did You Just Punch Out Chulhu would be saved, since it apparently is the trendsetter.
@2, my thoughts too.
Is dast der Zerstorer? Odar die Schopfer? While I agree that it is not the best name, is there any reason to think that it is resulting in misuse or under-use? If so, I'm cool with a rename.

Since January 1, 2012 this article has brought 122 people to the wiki from non-search engine links.
This should be a relatively common trope, so it seems to be underperforming a bit, and the name is the most obvious reason.

seems that we have a consensus on a rename.
how does Moms Guest Is The Villain sound? someone also mentioned Villain Met Mom.
Is dast der Zerstorer? Odar die Schopfer?A bit too few votes, to be honest. I would ask for a crowner.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm thinking of a name like The Friend Of Their Friend Is Their Enemy.
Hooked as a single-prop since renaming is the only action that's been seriously considered.
So is that the only option?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseSince it looks like the rename crowner is way in the positive, I'm thinking new names... How about Eating With The Enemy?
I'm in support of Villain Met Mom since it's the shortest (only three words) while still being one of the clearest.
I like Bad Guy Over For Dinner despite it's length. Moms Guest Is A Villain is about as long and is broader in scope so less room for misunderstandings.
Villain Met Mom is good, but has Ambiguous Syntax: the villain has met the hero's mom on the way somewhere? or the villain had a meeting with hero's mom?
Is dast der Zerstorer? Odar die Schopfer?Would it be possible to rename Bad Guy Over For Dinner to just Villain For Dinner? (or maybe Villain Over for Dinner if the other one sounds like they're actually eating the villain)
Villain Over for Dinner sounds good.
That sounds cute. I'll third that.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDid we actually ever find that the name was being misused? I know it's a snow clone, but is it working?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickMisuse was never considered here. Underusage and dialogue and snowclone title concerns were the issues here.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
Did You Just Index Cthulhu? is a snowclone index for tropes regarding doing something to an Eldritch Abomination or a completely alien/godlike character.
however, Did Mom Just Have Tea with Cthulhu? is about a Big Bad. not an Eldritch Abomination, not a Starfish Alien or any powerful inhuman being. just plain old Big Bad.
doesn't the word "Cthulhu" mean Eldritch Abomination in common usage in This Wiki?
if so, is it worth renaming?
also, there's Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?, Do Not Taunt Cthulhu, Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?.
where "cthulhu" seems to mean "people more powerful than the ones interacting with them", which goes against the point of the snowclone.
