Yikes. When you realize you'll miss the broadcasts for the premiere episode on July 4th, July 11th, and July 25th, you know your life has changed to the point where it's less convenient to be a brony!

Our football isn't all that good, either. We barely win any games. Yet somehow the school puts so much money into them despite them being so shit.

We didn't even have a football team. Though one of our April Fools jokes was to add a fake football page to the school website. We had fun with that.

I'm heading to bed now.

My school had a football team.

And, uh, that's about all I know about it. I do remember nodding off during pep rallies though.

I don't think we had a football team. I did track for a few months at the end.

I paid as little attention to sports as possible but I think we were pretty good. Hated pep rallies though.

This is why I would despise Rainbow Dash if we were on the same side of the fourth wall.

My school didn't have a football team either, but all the sports kids were actually pretty cool. Pep rally stuff was also kinda fun.

Or maybe it was just my college that didn't have a football team? I have no clue.

Our football team sucked, so I never went to a game. Pep rallies were also boring, but the days leading up to the pep rallies were fun. It was just four days of a bunch of high schoolers playing dress up, and then a Friday spent harassing underclassman. (Or rebelling against upperclassmen.)

At the time I never minded pep rallies because they got me out of class, but looking back I realize how dumb it was that so education time was taken up with sports stuff.

My school didn't have a football team because, when it had the choice between using funds for an AP Physics class and a football team, it chose the former. Good choice, considering our other sports suck.

That probably says something about my school...

The pep rallies were really stupid. And they took up half of our lunch hour, so no one liked them.

When I was in grade eleven we got a new teacher who transfered in from Texas. He pretty much dragged me into his classroom on the first day of school and forced me to try out for the Football team. I was good at it, but never cared for it, so I didn't wind up on the team. Team did really well that year, though. Dunno if it won.

I enjoyed High School, for the most part. There were no AP classes in my school division(Came from a small town, and the entire division was so small that tree towns nearby also sent their high schoolers to us because they didn't have their own high schools), so classes were easy, the Teacher's appreciated someone who treated them like a person so I got along well with them, and I was too big for anyone to pick on. So I'll admit that I mostly got lucky. the biggest flaw for High School for me is that a lot of it felt pointless, and even then more knowledge is never bad.

My high school years weren't pointless, gladly. I took courses that apparently put me above college level, so my first couple years of college will be a breeze (it's what I'm told by my upperclassmen friends anyway).

Anyone here familiar with IB?note  I took the whole Diploma part of it which is what prepared me so well.

Ugh. So there's something pony-related that's been bothering me for a while now. I want to talk about it, but I'm worried that I'll sound like an asshole, and I don't want to do that. It is a topic I've talked about before {Mute Vinyl}, but an additional thing has happend that is annoying the hell out of me. Edit: Screw it, I'm going to talk about it anyway, though I'll do my best to be civil about the whole ordeal.

One of my fears ever since Hasbro, for some utterly stupid reason, decided to make Vinyl into a mute was that this new interpretation would result in the fanon one vanishing. Some people assured me that it probably wouldn't happen due to how popular the fanon version is, but unfortunetly they're wrong because I've seen an influx of Mute Vinyl fics ever since that episode and nothing about the version of the character that I liked so much. It seems to me that people are actually preffering the mute version over the fanon one. Now, as utterly pissed off as I am about this, I will not insult anyone who does prefer Mute Vinyl, but I will ask: Why? Why do people like Mute Vinyl so much? "She expresses herself through music instead of words"? Yeah, that's never been done with a music-based character before. I find the Fanon version of her as well as her interactions with Octavia to be hilarious and some of the funniest stuff to come from this fandom. Not to mention that Fanon Vinyl, depending on the fic in question, can sometimes be a far more interesting character then she first appears, stuff like giving her Hidden Depths and also using her friendship/relationship with Octavia to bring out a different side to her personality {I've read countless fics about those two}. The Canon version of her is just........ Horribly meh. She never talks and likes to make dubstep music, and that's all there is to her. I don't get the appeal in her, at all, and it upsets me that basically a fanon character that I like so much will probably never appear again in any fanfics thanks to being Jossed.

I'm sorry if I sound like an asshole. Really, I am. I actually restrained myself from saying rather mean things because I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I'm just so mad and upset about this, far more then I should be. It's pathetic, I'll admit that and I'm not proud of it either. I mean, no one else is upset by this or even really cares, so I shouldn't either. It's easier said then done. Ugh.........sad

Correct. Your cookie is in the mail.

You'll have to take it back, because I misspelled Wien.

At the time I never minded pep rallies because they got me out of class, but looking back I realize how dumb it was that so education time was taken up with sports stuff.

I always hates them because they were a complete waste of time and REALLY REALLY LOUD and the school spirit stuff felt like cult-like behavior. Luckily later in high school I realized that the calculus teacher would let us hide out inside her classroom during pep rallies instead of going.

^See, the thing I liked about sports stuff was that it whenever my school had a celebration about that sort of thing, it meant that I didn't have to go back to class till the whole thing was over. Yeah I'm not interested in sports, but it's the lesser of two evils. :P

I'm kind of down right now. I need something to cheer me up, please. sad

There were a lot of different depictions of Vinyl before, and I'm not worried about that changing just because of So L.

That is true. But I've come to discover that Canon heavily outweighs Fanon. Part of the reason why I'm upset is because my anger at this makes me no better then all the headcanon nazis who throw temper tantrums whenever the show throws away their headcanons {Example: All the people who raged about Daring Don't jossing the fan theory of Twilight Velvet being the Daring Do author}.

Strictly speaking Solresol isn't music so much as a collection of notes; a sentence in it would likely sound horribly discordant.

For the purposes of clarity that was a joke. Solresol is a Conlang composed of different musical notes, strung together in units of three to make a collection of categories and a limited, but functional language. As far as 'communicating through music' goes, it's the most literal solution.

Now: There's a virtue to mute characters. It's difficult for them to communicate their character, yes, but that's kind of what makes them so good. there's a lot of interesting things you can do with a mute character, and on a practical level it forces the animators to pay a lot of attention to their physicality. It's not as useful for fanon portrayal, which is usually fanfic or comics which can't make as heavy use of that sort of thing, but the point is it makes the character all-show, no-tell. That can be interesting to watch and create.

On a character level, a Mute character has a lot to bring to the table. Bear in mind, being Mute is a disability. People with Disabilities have outlooks on life and reactions to things that able-bodied people don't - in the way that a black person likely has a different mindset on the police than a white person does. Being mute doesn't make Vinyl a less interesting character, if anything it makes her more interesting, because she has a unique stance to grow from. She can still be raucous or fun or belligerent or thoughtless or caring, but at the core of it all there's a little kernel of something that can always be drawn on(Though of course defining a person or character by their disability is bad mojo; I simply mean that it lends them that different mindset that can be used to inform their full character). If nothing else, she's still fully capable of being the exact same character, but mute. If she isn't being portrayed well it's not the fault of the character, but of the fanon creators for simply writing a bland character or leaning too much on her muteness.

And frankly, that isn't new to her. Call it sour grapes, since I made a much different and much earlier portrayal of Vinyl that(Perhaps for the best) never took off, but I've always found the fanon portrayal of Vinyl to be kind of trite and one-dimensional anyways. Perhaps it simply wasn't the kind of character who appealed to me, or perhaps I'd simply never seen any of the stuff that really portrayed her well and complexly, but nothing about her ever really appealed to me.

The point is: While I don't necessarily sympathise with you, I understand where you're coming from. But there's nothing inherently good or bad about Mute vinyl; it doesn't have to affect her character at all. We're simply close enough to the inception of the character type that while shit has come out in droves, the good stuff hasn't had a chance to show up yet.

Also as a side note, if you're concerned about not sounding like an asshole then you needn't be so angry about things. It's fine to have a problem with something or disagree with someone, but you don't need to get upset in order to do that, or as a result of that. You can simply say, "By the way I happen to dislike this development/thing".

Or to put it more clearly: Being angry about something is a knee-jerk reaction, and that's fine, but you don't need to stay angry about it. If you have an issue with something then think about why it makes you upset. Then breath deep, and let the anger go. I assure you you'll still dislike that thing, but it won't feel like such an affront.

Hmmmm, interesting. There have been two Mute Vinyl fics I read that were actually pretty interesting and wern't bad {One of them went into the downsides of her disabilty without going into glurgy and borderline-offensive Snowdrops territory while also having a sweet friendship moment between her and Octavia, while the other one I read and kind of liked had her personality be the same as Fanon Vinyl except she uses a type-speaker thingy to communicate and actually does manage to physically talk very briefly in a really desperate situation}. There is some potential from the idea, it's just that so far it seems like it's at the expense of a character I really enjoy.

And I don't inheretly have a problem with silent/mute characters. For one thing, Silent Antagonists can be really indimidating and downright scary at times {Micheal Myers for example never says a damn word throughout the entire Halloween franchise, and it only makes him more creepier then he already is}, and sometimes Heroic Mimes / Silent Protagonists can have potential too {Like the player characters in the Fallout series, as they're personality's can be interpreted in vastly different ways depending on your actions throughout each game}.

As for the anger thing, it's probably clear to anyone who's been here long enough that I have anger issues. I can never seem to shut up about something that pisses me off until I eventually get over it {Which can take a long time}. I'm aware that it's a problem and I am trying to get better about it.
