So apparently Warner Bros is considering making a live action adaptation of Batman Beyond. I loved this show when I was a kid and I love it now, so I'm very interested in the project and who the cast might be.

Here are my takes on possibilities:

Terry Main character. Kinda important.

  • Liam Hemsworth is my personal pick for this. He's got the look and he's got the demeanor, and damned if he isn't a good actor.
  • Logan Lerman is another possibility, for similar reasons to Liam. However, he's kind of fallen out of the spotlight right now (new Percy Jackson movie notwithstanding).
  • Josh Hutcherson is definitely an option, given how huge he is right now. However, his baby-faced look and "good golly gosh" demeanor are kinda the antithesis of what Terry is all about. I don't think anyone could buy Josh Hutcherson having a delinquent past.

Bruce Wayne Terry's mentor and Voice with an Internet Connection. Old Batman. Secondary protagonist of the show. Also kinda important.

Derek Powers/Blight I'm almost positive Blight would be the villain in the first movie, given that his origin story is inextricably tied with Terry's. And besides that, he's the iconic villain of the show.

  • Sean Bean can certainly be snaky enough to play the biggest snake in Gotham. His previous roles prove that he can play villainous characters quite well, and besides that, he's physically fit and imposing enough to be a credible physical threat to a teenage Batman.
  • Subtlety is the mark of neither Blight nor Daniel Day Lewis. Day-Lewis already masterfully played the role of an evil, corrupt business magnate, and has played another bombastic villain in Gangs Of New York. All in all, definitely a good fit. However, Day-Lewis being dignified as he is, he might seem out of place in a comic book movie, even in a post-Nolan world.
  • Hugo Weaving plays villains extremely well, and has proven himself certainly boisterous enough to play an excellent Derek Powers and an excellent Blight.

Any ideas from anyone else?

Casting Harrison Ford as Bruce Wayne would inevitably lead to jokes about Han Solo following in Luke Skywalker's footsteps.

[up]Bonus points if there's a flashback with Joker being voiced by Hamill, a la Birds Of Prey TV pilot.

I'm sorry but why wasn't Clint Eastwood everbody's first choice. The man can still give one hell of a scowl.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

Isn't Eastwood retired from acting and only directing and producing?

Day-Lewis is REALLY picky about the films he's in (he's only been in nine, I believe), and Weaving has decided to stay away from Hollywood villains for a while.

I hate sounding like a killjoy...

My casting preferences are based on nothing more than my personal opinions.

Terry Mcginnis: Niall Matter

Bruce Wayne: Clint Eastwood

Max Gibson: Freema Agyeman

Barbara Gordon: Helen Mirren

Blight: Sean Bean sounds like a good choice, somerandomdude.

The Stalker: Faran Tahir or Chiwetel Ejiofor

I'm thinking a younger person for Terry Mcginnis. Since he's supposed to be in high school. But I can't really think of any good teenage or close to teenage actors that look right for the part (for example, technically Asa Butterfield is teenage but he looks about 12).

@Napoleon: I thought Mark Hamill stated that he's no longer going to voice the Joker—I seem to remember him saying that that one video game in which he voiced him (I think it was Arkham Asylum but I'm not sure) would be the last time he reprises that role.

I suppose it's going to take place in the same continuity as the upcoming Warner Bros films? That might determine who they pick for Wayne's actor.

Fire, air, water, earth...legend has it that when these four elements are gathered, they will form the fifth element...boron.

You know how big the movie would be if they got Michael Keaton to play Bruce Wayne. His interpretation of Bruce was really more appropriate for the older, jaded version rather than the younger, charming playboy. If not Keaton, I would put forth Kurt Russell.

I think Terry should be college age, some things work better in animation than live action. Asa Butterfield could play Matt, Terry should be played by someone in the 20-25 age range.

Bruce Greenwood would be a phenomenal Derek Powers, he already has a reputation for CEO-type characters and playing an outright villain would be a good change of pace.

How about Ezra Miller for Terry?

[up]Not a bad idea. I also thought of Djimon Honsou playing the Stalker and Armie Hammer as Big Time, if they feature them in a series.

[up][up]Kevin Conroy isn't old enough to play old Bruce. He has a good voice for him (obviously) but the look doesn't match up.

[up] It's not just his age. His entire look just doesn't fit the character IMO.

And if the new Lone Ranger movie is anything to go by...ageing up doesn't always work so well.

Clint Eastwood was always my choice, though back when it was first developed the rumored Paul Newman would have been great too (but is no longer possible), and if he could be dragged out of acting retirement still is. Ford, Keaton, or Russel would work too.

@7 Nailed it with Mirren, and I'd never object to a Who alumni being involved. Heck, for that matter they could de-age Powers a bit and go with David Tennant (or just dye his hair white). For that matter you can never go wrong with Rutger Hauer, and he has already appeared once in the franchise.

Now that I think about it, Ezra Miller would make a great Zander. note

Also, Sally Field would be another good choice for Barbara Gordon.

AnnaSophia Robb, perhaps? note
