Tropers / The Nth Troper

Go To

The Nth Troper is a sadfan with a sense of self-awareness. He is, as his name indicates, a gargantuan fan of Doctor Who. "Gargantuan" as in he likes every Doctor, can spare a kind word for even the worst story, and reads Lance Parkin & Lar Pearson's Ahistory chronology as light reading on his lunch break.

He's also a huge animation nerd - in his words "Why would I stop watching them when I got "too old" in the early 90's when that was when they started getting really good?". His favorite modern shows are Phineas & Ferb, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Venture Brothers, Bob's Burgers, Archer, and Kung-Fu Panda. His love for animation goes back to Nickelodeon repeats of Belle & Sebastian and Mysterious Cities of Gold and 80's merchandising toons like He-Man and GI Joe (he owned the aircraft carrier from the latter - yeah, he was a spoiled brat). His past favorites include Tiny Toon Adventures, Duck Tales, Gargoyles, B:TAS, and Daria.

Outside of animation other favorites include MST 3 K, Quantum Leap, X-Files, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Smallville, and Angel. Oh, and did he mention he loves Doctor Who? Because he does, in all media. Thanks to considering the New Adventures his favorite era, his Berserk Button is the word "canon". Shh, don't say it, unless you want a 1000 word essay on how there is no canon in Doctor Who! Oh, and if you so much as suggest the MST 3 K guys are parasites you will be flamed into oblivion despite his philosophy of not engaging in flame wars and actually using the "ignore" function when available - he thinks Russel T. Davies was too conservative when he said there are 200 ming-mongs ruining all Doctor Who discussions online, because he had 300 on his ignore list at the time.

He's also a huge superhero comics geek, worshiping at the altar of X-Men and pre-Nu-52 DC (EXCEPT IDENTITY CRISIS, because, yeah), but also loving indie comics like Hate, Strangers in Paradise, and Bone.

His film-geekery is a little more circumspect, as he still hasn't watched Casablanca or Brazil, but he can hold his own in those conversations. He thinks Blade Runner is over-rated except for Rutger Hauer but don't hold that against him. But he loves horror and comedy most of all, though good comedy is hard to find nowadays. Favorites include most zombie movies up through Shaun of the Dead, creepypasta (which is more written fiction but still), Mad Lib movies except Seltzer & Friedberg (and Movie 43), and superhero movies (they may be the end of the blockbuster era, but what a way to go!)

Musically he only dislikes christian pop (due to [1] personal issues) and 75% of country because he grew up in Texas. Otherwise it's all cool if it's good though he prefers industrial, goth, new wave, and EBM. Favorite bands/acts have included: Weird Al, Depeche Mode, The Cure, James, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Skinny Puppy, Eminem, Snap, VNV Nation, and Brian Dewan.
