What are some of your favorite things that heroes you know have done out of love? To prevent confusion, let's try to label each incident as "familial", "platonic" or "romantic" love. (That way we won't have any confusion over an incident meant as familial being taken as romantic or anything.)

Ben 10 (familial): Ben overcomes his coulrophobia when Zombozo reveals what he's done to Gwen.

Listening to the Get Back Glyn Johns mix bootleg right now, couldn't resist.

Happy Days (familial/platonic): Fonzie remaining in a dance contest to help Joanie, even though pushing his motorcycle to get there left him "dead on his feet."

The Lord Of The Rings, platonic we think Sam carrying Frodo as the latter slowly loses his strength to the Ring. Before that, Sam leaping out to Frodo's boat and Frodo pulling his friend up, allowing Sam to accompany him on his quest. Really, pretty much any Sam and Frodo moment whilst traveling.

"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" is one of my favorites too.

Back To The Future (platonic): the beginning, when Doc faces down the terrorists. He knows he's going to die, and he's willing to do so if it will let his best and only friend escape.

Star Trek The Original Series (platonic): Kirk, Spock, and McCoy each attempt a Heroic Sacrifice (via Cold-Blooded Torture, no less) to save the others. (It's "The Empath", in case you want to look it up).

In Classical Mythology, Orpheus loses Euridice. Armed with only his lyre, he enters Tartarus, charms Cerberus, convinces Charon to give him a free ride across the river styx and plays such a lovely tune for Hades Himself that he lets him take the ghost of his love back to life on the condition that he can't look back at her until they have left the underworld and gone back to the world of the living.

Then when he does get out, he looks at her when she had just a foot out of the cave and was taking form again, and gets sent back to the underworld. Bummer. Then Orpheus kind of goes nuts and gets torn apart by the classical mythology equivalent of ravers on PCP in what is one of the biggest Downer Endig I have ever known of.
