Yes to the rewrite and yes to the rename. Eldritch Abomination is widely misused so making more general snowclones of it is not going to work, similar to what happened with Xanatos Gambit.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah, let's do that.
I believe it could work with the original name but I can see that there's a case for changing the name, so I'm adding my thumbs-up to the name change.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DM+1 for renaming to Tortured Monster and altering the definition thusly.
Tortured Monster makes me think of Frankenstein's monster, the Trope Codifier. That makes this name work even more.
Bingo. Definition is very clear. I'm indifferent to a name change. Monster (not complete) and abomination are the same thing.

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I think this is a case where the name doesn't cause trouble for itself, but for a different trope. For that reason, I think Tortured Monster is preferable, even if Tortured Abomination is in itself very clear.
And there's no reason to separate different kinds of monsters and abominations. That's not the point of the trope. The point is that it's something that looks scary, but suffers on its own.
Check out my fanfiction! So is that enough consensus to just go ahead and make the change?

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI vote yes as well. In fact, going by the name alone, I thought it was already about any kind of monster, and I don't see why it should only be about the lovecraftian ones.
It's not even been three days. Also, it's a weekend.
Check out my fanfiction!... which in my opinion just points out how badly this trope needed repair. I am now even more convinced that the name change will be a good thing.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMYeah, we'll give it time. I just figured since it was so straightforward we could just do it quickly rather than keeping a TRS slot filled, but we can wait.

- 1 to the rename and rewrite.
I'm glad somebody made this thread when I forgot to.
+1 to rename and rewrite. This trope does not need to be relegated to only Eldritch Abominations. The way I see it, something qualifies if it's a monster whose very form tortures it in some way.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.OK, so do we have consensus for an expansion and rename to Tortured Monster?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanfrom me.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI'm calling it based on the heavy consensus to this point. Make it so.

I'll do it, then.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOK, did all the rename work (except for two-three wicks) and made an edit request for the locked Monster.Fan Works page.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat one's done.
Is there anything missing? Asking since the thread is still open.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
This came from this IP thread.
The description and name are both explicit that this is about an Eldritch Abomination that is tortured. I don't see a reason the name can't be changed to Tortured Monster and the definition expanded to fit any monster. The vast majority of the examples already fit this idea.
In the IP thread, someone said that it could just have a definition change (since technically Abomination covers more than Eldritch Abomination) but I think it needs a rename as well. Eldritch Abomination already sees a ton of misuse as just regular things that are monstrous so having a trope with Abomination in the name that's just talking about monsters is going to confuse the issue even further.
