Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules (in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

For the record, that icon was chosen because it's been the YKTTW hat icon. The MRA issue was brought up during that discussion (in the "All Purpose Namespace Icon thread" thread) but the icon was selected anyhow.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI came here time after Troper Tales got nuked and the apparent taboo and Shrouded in Myth status of the issue really makes for a morbid curiosity in me.
In internet databases I found some TT's though these were quite tame so I wonder if my threshold is significantly higher than the average troper or I really didn't found the hard stuff.
Anyway, it bugs me.

Haw Haw HawA lot of it was beyond creepy and the actual discussions were equally as viable on the Forums as well. It was just "stories of our lives" for the most part, besides us not really troping real people(including ourselves). Our troper page already covers anything Troper Tales can do, and so does the Forum as noted a bit before.
I never thought most of the TT pages were that bad, but I suppose enough were that it didn't reflect well on the site.
Being here for four years and on the forums for two, I'm familiar with that
Almost five years ago now. Wow, where did the time go?
I think exactly 5 years ago for me. That's why I'm used to people leaving. Re: Troper Tales, I don't think it was really bad but the bad parts, I think, could be discouraging to new users. Also I think TT was kind of a relic from when TVT was more inside-jokey (back when all the tropes were named after characters and there was a lot more natter on the pages).
Honestly, I'm glad about a good number of changes that have taken place with site conventions. Especially changing most of the Japanese trope names—made the site look like a haven for weeaboos. Changing the name of Nakama to True Companions might be one of the best moves this site has ever made.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. The fact that Meganekko was apparently changed from Glasses Girl still baffles me, though.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.I remember when they changed Nakama. I think people actually left the site over that. I think around then was also when the pages stopped being as anime focused (remember when half of every page's examples was anime? That was really bad if the page didn't have folders).
That would have been hilarious to see. While I've been on this site for several years, I only started checking out these forums much later, making me miss all the "fun" stuff.
Well, not all of it. I used to be an asshole. :(
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Heh. wuggles comment (to the effect of: "when the pages stopped being as anime focused") sparked a realization for me that I've been noticing that whenever there's a Fanfic examples section on a Trope page, the vast majority of the examples in that folder will be Anime fics. And the ones that aren't will often be Harry Potter fics.
Nothing wrong with that, except that for someone like me who doesn't watch anime and doesn't care for or follow HP, it causes a lot of the examples to get a resounding, "Huh? (o0)"
All through my youth I said that I wanted to "be somebody" when I grew up... I can see now that I should have been more specific...edited 7th Jun '14 1:06:30 AM by Robotnik
You could always do what I do and skip over examples from things you haven't seen and/or don't care about.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Same. I always just close the anime, comics, fanfic and wrestling sub-thingies.
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'There seems to be a lot of Disney fans here. Since I am not one of them, it's a bit weird at times.
I do. It's an observation, not a complaint.
All through my youth I said that I wanted to "be somebody" when I grew up... I can see now that I should have been more specific...Let's be fair here, there's a great big beautiful tomorrow lot of Disney fans in the world in general. The chance of a lot of people on a site dedicated to media isn't that low.
I would like it if there were separate categories for Anime fanfiction and Pony fanfiction, just so they don't keep drowning out the other fanfiction examples.
That's just my opinion, though.

"I'll show you all of Paris, I'll take you on a tour, we'll go up and up and up so high they'll long for an encore!"An entire section for pony fanfiction would be ridiculous.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. If there's enough good examples, it's necessary. We have splits all the time.
Why is there so many mirror wikis of tvtropes? Are them exilees or summat?
Haw Haw HawMirror wikis?
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.
Oh, I didn't notice the fedora icon. I'd really like that to be changed. MRAs have become really contemptible lately.
