Creating Franchise Pages Wherever Appropriate

Go To

This thread is for questions regarding creating or cutting pages in Franchise/ namespace and Franchise Index.

As a reminder, being a Series Franchise doesn't mean a Work can have a Franchise/ page. For that it needs existing (not Red Link) and connected (official releases for the same trademark) Work pages in 3 different Mediums, not 3 pages for the same property in general.

If it doesn't meet those criteria, the section about related releases can be on page of the first installment.

Now, I don't know about you, but we don't seem to have that many Franchise pages.

For instance, Video Games. Take a look at this page. I guarantee that we don't even have that many listed in the Franchise namespace.

Also, I set up Franchise pages for Duke Nukem, Deer Hunter, and Grand Theft Auto.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to list multiple games in a Franchise page as opposed to a Video Game page?

Franchise.Uncharted was just made. We only have pages for video games, though there are a few Comic Book examples on the page. Should I just move the thing to VideoGame.Uncharted.

Slight update: The creator has made stub pages (as in 2-3 tropes per page, no descriptions whatsoever) for two more namespaces. If they don't expand the pages by the end of the week, then I'm just going to cut them and move the business to Video Game/

Went ahead and threw the stubs and the Franchise.Uncharted page onto the cutlist. The creator was clearly uninterested in expanding them. Also moved all of the indexing back to VideoGame.Uncharted.

In the process, I found Franchise.Jak And Daxter. It's your standard "the first game has the same name as the series" thing. Should I move the page to VideoGame.Jak And Daxter Series?

That would seem to have been created this year. Calling ~starjewel, ~Sakubara, and ~nanakiro to this thread. The "franchise" namespace is limited to multimedia franchises that already have pages in at least three mediums. Work pages should generally begin in the namespace of the original medium of the franchise.

Guy that made Franchise.Uncharted just recreated it after being cut as a redirect to VideoGame.Uncharted. Is that standard protocol? I thought we didn't bother with that since it leads to a disambig by default.

I believe you are correct. Creating New Redirects says not to create redirects in the wrong namespace. For example, a redirect in the Film/ namespace for an animated film (Use Animation/, Anime/, or WesternAnimation/).

Should these pages be deleted?:

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon are video game only. Sly Cooper is also video game only except for the Sly Cooper (2016) page (which is a canceled film).

Degrassi is television series only.

Ever After High encompasses the entire franchise but is only one namespace. Hello Kitty, Cabbage Patch Kids, and Garbage Pail Kids are the same way.

Also, the rule is "this media has three pages in three namespaces", right?

Correct on all accounts.

And don't just turn the Franchise/ page into a redirect, cutlist it entirely.

Recently? As far as I can tell it was made in 2013. But yeah, it doesn't get a Franchise/ page.

I brought this up in ATT but I really think we should consider locking the ability of non-mods to make Franchise/ pages, same as we do with Main/.

I split Archie Comics into a Creator page and a Comic Book page. What should be done with the Franchise page though? It does fit the criteria for a franchise after all (comic books, film, western animation, and live action tv).

It doesn't have a work in the Film/ namespace that I'm aware of, but the work does qualify for a multimedia franchise page.

[up] I haven't made the page yet, but I'm going to make one for the direct-to-tv film from the 90s soon.

What I was referring to is how it should be organized. I presume the examples should be deleted once they're moved to the Comic Book page, but the description is the same as it is on the Comic Book page. Should it be changed?

The page for the Comicbook medium should talk about the comics. It should index each Comicbook page of the franchise. The multimedia page should describe how the franchise crosses mediums, and index each medium. Some of the information is likely to be redundant, but less than half of the description.

Note: The Simpsons is not part of the Archie Comics franchise, although it might apply for Shared Universe.

Is it okay to list adaptations on the Comic Book page or should that be deleted?
