Since it had been brought up in the Embodiment of Virtue thread. The image is meh, not really showing anything with the caption pulling all the work...

I humbly offer that we can use this. It's sort of big, but we can just crop a few of them for the page image. (Like this crop of the three center characters here.)

That caption is awful — it needs to be pulled whether the image is or not.

Your suggestion is very nice. I wonder if it's possible to crop out some of the blank skirt above the word on each one, since it doesn't really serve much purpose except more lovely color. As for which to pick, three seems good; I'd want envy in there for sure, but sloth seems like a weaker one. What about the three leftmost women?

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I find envy sorta weak since she's just green. Personally if I had more time I'd swap out Sloth for Gluttony, Lust or Avarice. I like Wrath and Vanity.

I don't really get any of those. They're not better than the MLP ones in the other thread.

Full Metal Alchemist would probably be the easiest source for a picture. Envy and Gluttony are both pretty straight forward.

Haha, not a serious suggestion, but while I was looking for a good Fullmetal Alchemist image, I found this.

They don't illustrate "virtue" well, but somehow they illustrate "vice" better than I'd expect :P

(Not a serious suggestion, btw)

[up] *pfffft* I actually like that. [tup] That said, I think [up][up] would work better for the page. The Ponies pic could go on an Image Links page.

[up][up]Joke or not, it illustrates the trope. However, it's largely about the Seven Deadly Sins (and should be image-linked over there instead), so it's probably not a good idea.

Gluttony, while okay, is just one person, so it seems more generic. More threatening than gluttony. And it's kind of dark. On the other hand, it does suggest embodiment.

@7 is a good image for Seven Deadly Sins. Not so good for this, unless we arbitrarily cut parts of it off.

What they illustrate best of all is Mr. Vice Guy.

Edit: ...and "Got Ya Covered" [1].

Note that Seven Deadly Sins has nothing to do with the relationship between characters and vices. So to the extent that it should be put up as an example (which I personally find ridiculous) it would probably fit better in Embodiment of Vice. Or, as mentioned above, Mr. Vice Guy.

Not a fan of Gluttony. It's just some big monster.

...I'm sure there is. He's seen eating or wanting to eat things all the time, but I'm having one heck of a time actually finding one. Give me a minute to do a bit more google searching.

While I'm here, I should say that I still think the monstrous form has something going for it. Like, the way the gash begins at his mouth (and makes him resemble a huge, horrific mouth), and how his tongue is still prominent, and the way it reveals his stomach to be literally a bottomless pit. It's abstract but I think it works. Anyway, looking for a picture of him eating.

edit:

Oh, the first panel here might work. Gluttony and Lust. Or the second panel here. Or the last panel, if Gluttony's speech bubble is left in the shot. Maybe the second and third panels here.

And of course, I could always go grabbing stills from the anime versions of those scenes.

[up] IT reveals the stomach to be an eye. Eyes aren't usually associated with food.

Well, a monstrous eldritch whatsit where his stomach should be, anyway.

Aaanyway, I think the panels I just edited into that last post of mine might work better anyway.

If Gluttony doesn't work, we should probably move to another work, because Gluttony is the most visually obvious homonculus of the lot. Well, Pride really works, but only if you know why he works, which is not good for a page image.

[up][up][up]I kinda like the first one, with Gluttony and Lust, though I'm not sure how well it actually illustrates the trope.

I think it would work with a caption that simply reads "Lust and Gluttony"

Found this.

I think it may be a problem with FMA that, of the homunculi, Greed, Pride, and Sloth aren't obviously visually representative of their respective sin, and Wrath and Envy are questionable.

Pride works when he's using his shadows, but only in-context, so yeah.

[up][up] I recognise Gluttony coz he's the fat dude, I assume the chick is Lust because Unfortunate Implications ahoy and a guy couldn't be fanservicy. The rest I got no clue. Half of them look like they could be Wrath.

Half of them look like they could be Wrath.

Pretty much. XD The real Wrath is the one with the sword and eyepatch, which probably would be a good indication if it weren't for how violent-prone all the others look too.

(Pride is the little boy in the classy suit, Sloth is the brute in the back, Greed is on the right - I don't know how being able to cover himself in armour is a greedy power either - and Envy is just in front of him.)

I think the game Dante's Inferno might be a good place to look for examples. Here's some search results for Gluttony, for example: https://www.google.se/search?q=dante's+inferno+gluttony&hl=sv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=3i45UZ67EoOrO9_DgcAD&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1014&bih=772

Sorry for the pasted link. Hotlinking the url doesn't work for some reason.

Edit: What the frak, just do a search for "dante's inferno gluttony" in Google's image search.

[up][up]Honestly, I am more amazed by the unfortunate implications of having just one girl amongst the 7. Now, I admit I know nothing of the work, so this is a purely outsider view, but my first reaction is "The author implies one or more of the following":

  1. Only men can be lazy, gluttons, envious, wrathful, proud or greedy.
  2. Women can only be lustful.
  3. Only Women can be the target Lust

Seriously, the 7 sins is one place where The Smurfette Principle raises all sorts of questions.

I fully admit this is my own outsider's first impression based on a work I know nothing off, no need to explain to me how it all makes sense in context.
