TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

[up][up][up] Unfortunately, Eddie vetoed making YKTTW required; I still don't understand why, as that decision had very clear consensus in the thread that decided upon it. So we're required to consider the merits of each page beyond whether or not it went through YKTTW.

On to the actual pages:

No Place For A Juvenile: That YKTTW appears to have been launched as soon as the launch button became available; it had zero hats and was clearly still not ready. I vote for an unlaunch and a cut of the page, so that it cannot be relaunched prematurely again.

Crime Of Misdirection: It seems like a duplicate of Revealing Cover Up to me, and as that is by far the healthier trope, I vote to cut Crime Of Misdirection.

Girly Name: Vote cut. Duplicating Gender-Blender Name. (Although I have to wonder about Tomboyish Name being distinct enough from Gender-Blender Name...)

Nothing To Lose: No examples. Cut.

Franchise.Science Adventure Series: Move to VisualNovel/ (only one media, so it's not a franchise as this wiki defines it) and make it an index. I don't think series pages need to have tropes if the individual works all have their own page.

Theres An App For That: No examples. Cut.

Invariably, pages attempting to bypass YKTTW fall afoul of the problems YKTTW is designed to deal with.

Revealing Cover Up was in TRS, so it is still not healthy. But Crime Of Misdirection has almost no description and doesn't show its relationship with other tropes. Problems that YKTTW helps to fix, as well as colelcting more examples. Three might be a minimum, but more is better.

EDIT: coverup was forgotten, and clocked out. *sigh* Need to go wick cleaning for tropes.

I've cutlisted the Crime... page. As for the other ones, I'll have to wait until tomorrow and hopefully get some more input. Especially on the No Place For A Juvenile page.

[up][up] You're arguing to the choir regarding YKTTW.

I went ahead and took care of most pages already mentioned. Remaining are in today's workpile:

Fluffy Pony: I'm not sure that it's just a meme. It seems more like a collective fanwork to me, so I'm leaning towards WebOriginal/.

Zoot Suit Longhair: Cut. And probably call the creator to mod attention, given that he/she is consistently making exampleless tropes. I could see it being a potential trope, but it needs to go through YKTTW for examples and refinement first. (Also, do you know why Baby Bigot isn't cut yet?)

Baby Bigot is on the cutlist, and the troper's been reported.

On the Juvenile... trope, I've requested unlaunch. Now, can I ask someone else to message the troper before I cutlist it?

I've messaged the Yama... person.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned, but I remember bringing up some time ago (not sure where though) a trope called Manufacturing Victims.

It seems problematic because it derives its name from and seems to inherently support someone's anti-psychiatry book.

The trope itself (divorced from the book) may have some bearing, but it's probably already covered by Psycho Psychologist as well as Induced Hypochondria

That one's more than 3 years old, from Xzenu.

Anyhow, one other page, and the No Place For A Juvenile request is still outstanding (the PM one, not the unlaunch one)

Manufacturing Victims has sufficient examples, has a decent description, is crosswicked and indexed, had a YKTTW, and, as Septimus mentioned, is three years old. Any changes to it are TRS territory.

This thread is for helping pages that got a bad start out of the gate, started too soon, didn't go through the gate before landing on the track, and generally need work to achieve a good description and rule of three. Those that can't be helped, or are trope pages duplicating ones already done, can be cut.

For a page like Manufacturing Victims, this thread isn't the place, due to all the reason Nocturna listed. Pages like that are taken to TRS for repair.

It's okay. Things are rather spread out and it's not always clear what goes where. And I agree that it seems somewhat problematic—this just isn't the proper place to deal with it. smile

The reason we draw the distinction between new pages and established pages is that the new pages haven't had time yet to get as fully interwoven into the wiki and thus changing them has less weight and will cause less disruption. The requirements for changing things in this thread are far lower than what's required in TRS, which is why any trope that's not new has to go through TRS and not this thread.

I'll have to ask for help with No Place For A Juvenile again - seems like another troper merged the examples back on the main page. I don't know how to proceed there now.

Otherwise:

It still has an entirely unclear description and the examples don't help. Plus, premature launches from YKTTW are things we don't want to tolerate. I still say we should cut the page; the YKTTW has been unlaunched.

OK, now both No Place For A Juvenile and Zoot Suit Longhair are on the cutlist. Anyhow, someone made a page The Belfry Witches - check out the edit reason.

That page's been cutlisted.

Today's worklist:

Also, on a sidenote, I found Correspondence From the Goddess - only needs crosswicking, but the creator was a troper I thought was gone for a long time now.

Pardon the doublepost, but I hope people don't mind that I moved The Aressian Universe unilaterally after messaging the editor to Sandbox. The Aressian Universe - even if it belonged on Main/, which it doesn't, it's by the editor's own statement under development and definitively not ready for the wiki.

No objections. That's definitely the right place for it. It can be shifted to WebOriginal/ (presumably) once it's ready to go.

The Aressian Universe seems to consist of a wiki and a few chat rooms. The wiki has tropes like Our Dwarves Are All the Same (they have beards and live underground) and Our Vampires Are Different (they can't make victims into vampires).

I would put the page in Wiki/ — if it was a real page with a trope list.

Ok, all those pages by genius66 need to be whacked. No way he can get proper descriptions, crosswicking, examples, and indexing in just a couple of days for what, 7 pages?
