TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

That article is 3 years old...

The hat is just a bug there.

So it was launched without any hats? Surprised it is that old (I had come across a recentish post on the Discussion page for it). Guess it slipped under the radar.

The Hats thing wasn't in place when it was made. There was no way for it to get hats. There were no hats for it to get.

It's still a really bad page for a valid trope about how villains or bad guys act. I'd say send it back to YKTTW for work

That sounds like a good idea. I do think to some degree at least, this would be covered under tropes like Psycho Psychologist and False Memories.

Its interesting you attribute this as a villain trope. That's how I see it too. I think that by the description stating this can be done in good faith, it enforces the idea that the trope is casting aspersions on all psychiatrists.

In real life, it can be done in good faith — a psychologist isn't omniscient, and may believe that a patient is skipping over or denying something that needs to be dealt with, so they would do or say things that exacerbate the situation to force the patient to face it.

In fiction, though, it's almost always a villain thing and it's being done knowingly and maliciously..

A new stub: Say It Again.

Also, has anyone any more opinions on Are You Sure This Is For Kids? (from last page)

Robin Thicke: Stubby stub with a single ZCE (that I'm 90% shouldn't even apply since it's about him, not his works).

Message the creator and ask them if they are planning on adding more.

I know that person already. I have messaged them once already for creating misnamespaced stubs.

Also, Godzilla Expy again. Still has no examples. Does anyone mind cutlisting this and messaging the creator to take the proposal to YKTTW?

Thanks.

Hmm, I think we need a procedure to deal with bad trope pages if no one is up for YKTTW'ing them back. We've encountered this issue already.

As an aside about hats, the reason many old YKTTW have a single hat is because of some experimenting we were doing on improving YKTTW. What with adding the tags and the option to remove tags, the number of hats on all drafts, old and new, went haywire. Many of them were left with only one hat until the bug was fixed. That was during last year's March.

The Final Frontier: I am not sure how old that trope is, but it's exampleless.

Also, Thorn Of Breland: A work page in the wrong namespace with insufficient examples.

Two more exampleless tropes: Baby Bigot and Religion Equals Race. Both without YKTTW and by the same troper, too.

Main. The Last Chase: Wrong namespace, no actual description of the movie, no tropes listed... The only reason I even found the page is because on Post-Peak Oil there's a ZCE that just lists the movie's title and year. A total of 4 pages link to it: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/relatedsearch.php?term=Main/TheLastChase

So the Robin Thicke guy got back to me via PM... he doesn't intend to add more, he just thinks he deserves an article. Currently it's at 1 ZCE that's more about the man than his work, and 1 Trivia item.

What do?

Toss it on the cutlist. And don't forget to note where the unlocking requests thread is - we can't assume people will find it rather than make the page in a wrong place.

Any comments on the pages I brought up?

Baby Bigot might have a trope there, but the name is bad, as is the complete lack of examples. Honestly feels like someone wrote a trope around Cartman from South Park.

Religion Equals Race is garbage. Cut it. All it basically does is note the predominant races for a bunch of religions. At best trivia, but I honestly don't see the point.

Superpowered Brady Bunch.

It wasn't in YKTTW, it has only two contextless examples and somebody set the page as work. It deson't look like it was launched by an experienced troper. Though the edit history shows sevral people making an edit.

Cut? It doesn't seem trope-worthy to me. Or if it is, it needs YKTTW to find examples.

OK, I think I will have to ask people to comment on still-pending pages while bringing up their own, not just bring their pages up, otherwise we get a mess.

Anyhow, Superpowered Brady Bunch: That description sucks too. Cut that.

Yes, this thread would need more people contributing and people actually taking the bad but potentially trope-worthy pages to YKTTW (though then the problem is you are listed as trope sponsor; I guess the tropers who originally launched teh page should do it themselves).

I'll try to have a look at those under consideration.
