This is a thread for talking about and posting links to which music videos have scared the hell out of you.

Genesis' "Land of Confusion" video was just freaky with all of those puppet caricatures. That one Robbie Williams video (I think it was for the song "Millennium", which is lovely regardless) where he removed his whole skin was horrible. Lady Gaga tends to have some tamely scary stuff in her videos, like the end of the video for "Alejandro" and her Uncanny Valley mermaid costume in "You and I".

The very first music video I can remember ever creeping me out was "Bedtime Story" by Madonna. In retrospect it's pretty tame in comparison to, say, any Aphex Twin video you could name, but it sort of was my first exposure to the Surreal Music Video trope, and c'mon, the bit where her eyes become mouths and her mouth becomes an eye is still pretty freaky:

Robbie Williams' "Rock DJ" music video. Body Horror, Squick and Fan Disservice all in one. My mother to this day hypothesises that this video might have been the root of all my fears, seeing it when I was 5 sure didn't help.

yeah man lowercase

For some reason, the zombie chick in this (or whatever she’s supposed to be!) totally freaked me out.

Also, the original, unedited version of Yes’ “Owner of a Lonely Heart” video. The maggots squirming in the man’s eyes? Brr!

"Ohrwurm" by Cephalic Carnage. Absolutely NSFW so I can't even post it here, so if you want to check it out, look for it.

[up] That's...incredibly fucked up.

Radiohead's animated music videos from the late '90s. Like the one where the fat guy accidentally severs all of his limbs with an axe, and then an angel (IIRC) wraps him up like a baby and takes him elsewhere.

[up] "Paranoid Android", which I believe was technically their only animated video from the nineties (I think Kid A and Amnesiac had a computer animated video or two each, but that was the early 2000s). It is a pretty freaky video, and I'm kind of surprised it got regular rotation on MTV, what with the gratuitous nudity and bloodshed and all:

Ok, I think this is actually postable here. Still pretty disturbing and graphic though. (not as much as the aforementioned Cephalic Carnage video, but that's not saying much)

EDIT: Did I say "pretty disturbing"? I think I meant "utterly horrible"... No idea how this was aired.

I was always skeeved out by the clown guy in the "Ashes to Ashes" video.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

Speaking of Bowie, there's a particular shot in the Loving the Alien video that I know was purposely removed from some of the versions, where you can see him starting to nosebleed just out of the blue. That I know disturbed some people, besides the fact that the entire video itself has weird and creepy imagery.

The end of the video itself however, that's another story... Just see for yourself.

"Maria (Shut Up and Kiss Me)" by Willie Nelson. Saw it once on CMT about 10 years ago and the only thing that stuck with me was some guy getting a dart in his arm and blood everywhere.

Yes, I remember that more than the hot chick. I apparently wasn't fully out of "totally sheltered from anything sexual" mode yet.

Speaking of Bowie and scarring-for-life videos, I’m surprised “Look Back in Anger” has yet to be mentioned:

A lot less esoteric than the last two I posted here, but probably the most unsettling given the subject matter and style:

Okay, this is one that's more Nausea Fuel to me than Nightmare Fuel, but Green Day's "Geek Stink Breath" video, which uses actual, close-up footage of teeth being pulled:

I don't think it really scarred me but The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" is definitely one video that comes to mind, if only for how trippylewdawesome it is.

oh, that's why I need this binary mind //

[up][up] Excellent choice...it's one of their most disturbing songs and that video fits the mood perfectly.

Both those David Bowie videos are pretty off, but the second one threw me the most. I'm convinced the end where he's crawling on the ground was done while in a drug delirium.

hmm, screwed up music videos... Daft Punk's "Technologic" was pretty freaky when I saw it.

[up]Doesn't quite hold a candle to "The Prime Time of your Life" imo...

I swore off Nine Inch Nails' "Happiness in Slavery" video after watching it three times.
