For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

I have come across the mother of all batshit conspiracy theory videos ...but we'll be getting around to that later.

First up right now, we got more of Gamesmaster and C.O.P.S.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, John Saxon is on the hunt for The Glove.

Sorry for missing the movie.

By the way Sean, just wanted to tell you: I watched The Birds again because of that comment of your. The movie is better than I remembered.

Sometimes I need to rewatch some movies.

The plot description from the YouTube uploader who ripped tonight's movie is one for the ages:

In a future where clothing is optional, three super hot chicks battle a guy for some jewels and stuff.

Featuring Angus Scrimm... Yeah, THAT Angus Scrimm. And Robert Tessier of Starcrash!

Get ready tonight for The Lost Empire.

I'm at work now typing on my phone, but tonight's movie is gonna be a blast from the past, even though the movie itself is from 2015.

It's Goosebumps!

Complete with ridiculous miscasting. Like the lead boy from 13 Reasons Why playing the lead (and blatantly too old for the role), and fricking Jack Black as R. L. Stine for some reason.

It's gonna be a disaster I bet. But let's see how they handle this nostalgia trip!

Tonight, got Goosebumps?

Because that's our movie and pre-show!

Goosebumps, with amusingly questionable casting choices. Jack Black as R. L. Stine.

We had another Troper join us for this one, Aurabolt.

The movie in some ways did not feel like a Goosebumps book, but in other ways it totally did. It had a lot of humor, and the plot was that all the monsters from the books were exiting them and entering the real world and terrorizing it. Whereas the books were more about individual scary situations that happened to the characters, this was basically a kind of monster movie in some ways, though it did have some situations that felt more in line with what might happen in the books, which I thought were nice touches.

Gotta also love these simplified, super fast romances that just happen to pop up.

"We gotta split up." "No! Have you ever read one of your books? We're never supposed to split up!"

The use of The Ghost Next Door was, I have to say, quite clever. The girl that the lead boy meets and develops a crush on, who is Stine's daughter in this movie, named Hannah, happens to be one of his book characters that he invented when he was younger so he would have company. The reveal of her being a ghost was handled nicely. (And in the actual book, the ghost girl was indeed named Hannah, and her being the ghost and not realizing it was also the book's twist ending.) Honestly, I thought this movie was better than I expected it to be. However, the casting still strikes me as ridiculous. R. L. Stine being portrayed by Jack Black, while a "Mr. Black" shows up played by R. L. Stine was a bit amusing, though.

It got ★★★ from the crew.

Okay, today we're watching Hudson Hawk, which I saw described as "a live action Lupin III". So it's a cartoony heist movie. We haven't seen all that many heist movies, so if we're gonna watch another, why not make it a completely ridiculous one?

If only it was actually ridiculous sad . What it was instead is boring and toothless. It's like Gondry's The Green Hornet without the eye gouging.

[up][up] It would be if Lupin III sucked.

I once had a copy of this film on VHS and it was a chore to sit through. I described it to a friend as a film that taught you comedy by showing you how not to do it. Be warned you'll be seeing a lot of unfunny mugging performances - and so will I as well.

The pre-show today is a lotta animation, which seems appropriate enough as tonight's movie has been called a live-action cartoon by some. It's the heist film Hudson Hawk.

For a teen drama film, this movie premise just seemed too unique to pass up...

A teenage diver makes it onto his high school swim team, but when he learns he must use the high dive platform in order to compete, he realizes he must overcome a fear of heights. This is Diving In.

Starring Matt Adler, Kristy Swanson, and Burt Young (More easily recognized as "Paulie" from the Rocky movies).

The only video under three minutes on YouTube that has absolutely anything to do with this movie is, well... Not a trailer... or even a clip...

And, for the record, I looked up the cast and crew, and I haven't found a single "Beth" or "Bethany" among the credits, so the person being alluded to here was likely only a background extra.

So tonight we're revisiting one of the Best of the Worst: Ben & Arthur ([awesome][awesome][awesome]).

It's the "shot on shideo" romantic drama written, directed, produced, edited, scored by, and starring Sam Mraovich about a gay couple, their desire for legalized same-sex marriage, and the opposition they face from one partner's brother... who plots to murder them after being ostracized by his church.

Being the gay-equivalent of a "Christian film" is already pretty bad on general principle... Casting noticeably flamboyant friends and associates of the filmmaker as anti-homosexual Christian characters and gay conversion therapists is laughable... Filming a sequence where our humble filmmaker and main protagonist chloroforms a homophobic priest then sets his body on fire while he's unconscious is outrageously batshit.

If you aren't familiar with this one already, it certainly qualifies as a bad movie "rite of passage."

So, tonight, I was talked into going elsewhere to watch Dario Argento's Opera ([awesome][awesome][awesome]), which we had gotten around to just a few months ago, and so I figured at the last minute we can ALL kind of share much of the same experience and watch it again.

Argento, one of the most elaborate and over-the-top giallo/horror directors, reaches a logical extreme by wrapping his indulgences around the equally lush framework of Giuseppe Verdi's operatic adaptation of Macbeth. He dares the audience to look away from all the gory violence, and mocks your squeamishness by portraying the most extreme of voyeuristic crescendo: Taping needles to his protagonist's eyes and forcing her to witnesses extreme visions of violence performed by a masked killer.

Easily one of his best, most visually stunning movies.

Taping needles to his protagonist's eyes and forcing her to witnesses extreme visions of violence

Almost as if he's teasing the audience! Like he's saying, "I'm metaphorically doing this to you. As long as you have the balls to watch!"

We haven't ventured very far down tonight's dark path (I believe the most we've touched on up to this point was 1000 Convicts and a Woman, [awesome], which wasn't anything near as sensational as the title), but it's about time we dove off the deep end and headed straight into the bowels of the mother of all "women in prison" movies: 1983's Chained Heat.

Starring Linda Blair, Sybil Danning, and Tamara Dobson as prisoners, Stella Stevens plays the tough-as-nails correctional officer, and the legendary John Vernon (The frat-hating college dean of Animal House, the jerkass town sheriff of Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and the Mayor of San Francisco in Dirty Harry, among other great, memorable roles) plays the prison warden.

Here, we discover a women's correctional facility brimming with decadence, corruption and sleaze, where the inmates are "sadistic crack-selling lesbian rapists" (IMDb's words, not mine; where the hell are they getting crack in prison, anyway?) and the guards and warden running the show are no better.

Now I remember why I wanted to stay away from this movie for so long. And, BTW, this movie title was adopted as the name of a trope that isn't even present in the movie.

The official trailer is NSFW (unsurprisingly), so I'm not going to be embedding it here (If you don't have to worry about people watching over your shoulder and would like to go out of your way to take a look, you can find the full trailer on YouTube HERE). However, here's a brief, dramatic, character-building scene with Linda Blair and Sharon Hughes...
