Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

[up]Good spot, I never would have noticed that. myself.

So let's do this! We got (Rip Torn's) Ghost Stories and Action Man.

Then, at the top of the coming hour... Let's roll, toke, laugh ourselves into a hernia, and repeat. We got Ganjasaurus Rex.

Check it out! I found another obscure Michael Caine action/thriller spy movie!

Co-starring Sean Young (post-career-destroying "Catwoman" insanity), Ian Holm, and Bob Hoskins (perhaps this film was part of the inspiration for Peter Serafinowicz's Michael Caine spoof?)

This is a story about an ex-MI6 agent-turned-bar owner (Caine) who gets swept away by a sultry American woman (Young), but when the fair lady learns about his past history, she asks him to hep her with a "problem" she has, which forces him to re-enter the dangerous world of espionage. Typical Michael Caine stuff.

Here's Blue Ice. (Not to be confused with Green Ice, which we should also take a look at some day)

Let's do this!

We got Bob Ross painting another pretty picture and Cr1TiKaL simply being Cr1TiKaL.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Michael Caine and Sean Young star in 'Blue Ice''.

Tonight, we have what was originally intended as a TV pilot for a kind of post-Star Trek, post-2001: A Space Odyssey series about a space colony established in orbit around our planet—Er-Er-Earth II.

Starring Gary Lockwood, who incidentally just so happened to have starred in the aforementioned 2001, and a bunch of other B-list actors from 60's, 70's film and television. Anthony Franciosa, in particular, should be recognizable as the man who played the writer in Dario Argento's Tenebrae ([awesome][awesome][awesome]).

Making up for a terrible oversight on my part last night: Tonight's pre-show will largely consist of Sean Young's (appropriately) "batshit" appearance on The Joan Rivers Show dressed as "Catwoman" (in a homemade costume) after failing to get the part for Tim Burton's Batman Returns.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we head into orbit and follow whatever may unfold aboard space station Er-Er-Earth II.

Got a real treat ready for tonight!

Submitted for your approval: The latest movie from eccentric spiritualist/conspiracy theorist/contemporary Edward D. Wood, Jr... The one and only Neil Breen, who gave us the films Double Down (   X   ), I Am Here... Now ([awesome][awesome][awesome]), and, of course, Fateful Findings ([awesome][awesome][awesome]).

Falling into the Breenster's signature "foreign/otherworldly being committing mass murder for the good of humanity" genre, his fourth film, Pass-Thru, is about a time-traveling Artificial Intelligence from the distant future named "Tghil" (named after a yogurt container) who embodies the corporeal form of a heroin-addicted loser to bring benevolent genocide to the world. He befriends a multicultural aunt/niece combo to take on the corrupt politicians, hypocritical media, and greedy CEOs while a group of tenacious young astronomers try to seek him out.

And he's already begun working on a 5th film...

I found this oddity in the Mario franchise. A year after Super Mario Brothers was unleashed upon the world on the NES, a Japanese animation director named Masami Hata was tasked by Nintendo to make a sixty-five minute OVA [Original Video Animation] film called Sūpā Mario Burazāzu: Piichi-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen!, which roughly translates to Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!. A film not only notable for being the first movie to be based on a video game [which predates the American Super Mario Brothers [[awesome][awesome][awesome]] ] by at least seven years. It was only ever released in Japan, and has made its way to international audiences by both an unofficial fan-sub, and a hilariously bad fandub that was uploaded five years ago, which is something I believe we should eventually watch.

Behold, the legendarily and memetically awful fandub of Super Mario Brothers: The Great Mission To Rescue Princess Peach:

And off we go with a night of The Breenster!

We got a condensed edit of Neil Breen's second movie, I Am Here... Now, plus some other odds and ends.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, brace yourselves for the fourth film from Neil Breen: Pass-Thru...

[up][up]Yeah, I'm sorry you missed it. It might not have been Breen's best bad film, but it was certainly the one that took his ethos to its "logical," most fascist extreme.

4x[up]There are no words.

Anyway, here's an appropriately bizarre followup to a night of Neil Breen—a movie co-written and co-produced by Vincent D'Onofrio and directed by the DJ from Linkin Park about a spree shooting at a shopping mall.

Apparently adapted from a novel.

This is called Mall (or Mall: A Day to Kill)

As far as I'm concerned, any assessment of this should draw direct comparisons to Uwe Boll's Homeroom: Heart of America (   X   ), which I'd hope to never ever watch again.

First off, we get started with some Ghost Stories and Gamesmaster, and then we go shopping at the Mall - A Day to Kill. Hmm, maybe we should have picked a different day to go to the mall...

Please anticipate an expedited pre-show & early start for tonight's feature presentation. This movie runs over 2 hours and will likely begin at around 7:30 PM (EST)!

We won't be observing Kung Fu Friday tonight.

In recognition of today's theatrical release of The Disaster Artist (dramatizing the production and filming of Tommy Wiseau's ''The Room, [awesome][awesome][awesome]), I figured on showcasing the last great biopic/dramatization of a real-life terrible filmmaker renowned for making "The Worst Movie of All Time"—1994's Ed Wood, directed by Tim Burton.

The one and only Johnny Depp brings a semi-fictional portrayal of Edward D. Wood, Jr. to life as only he can, backed by a supporting cast of plenty more recognizable names and faces as the other one-of-a-kind figures surrounding Wood (I'm personally very fond of Mike Starr as George Weiss, the executive producer of Wood's Glen or Glenda) as Tim Burton explores the stories (real, rumored, or dramatized) about Ed Wood's best-known films—Glen or Glenda ([awesome][awesome]), Bride of the Monster ([awesome][awesome]), and Plan 9 from Outer Space ([awesome][awesome][awesome]).

Sadly, Wood's "best, most competent" film (in my opinion), Jail Bait ([awesome]), made in between Glen(da) and Bride, is completely ignored, and his last proper movie before sinking into the seedy world of pornography, Night of the Ghouls ([awesome][awesome]), is only referenced in the opening narration from Jeffrey Jones playing the "celebrity psychic" Criswell.

Anyway, I'll get us started with a TV documentary about Ed Wood made for UK's Channel 4.

Then, after 7:30 PM (EST), we'll get straight into Tim Burton's Ed Wood.

Tonight, an Irish horror film about a horrific, paranormal danger that appears to manifest around a young girl—the sole survivor of a bloody massacre that killed her parents and younger brother.

What's the cause of all this? As Fox Mulder might say, "The truth is out there."

Here's Dark Touch.
