Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Alright, tonight, it's deja vu all over again with a revisiting of the movie with the dubious honor of being a science-fiction B-movie equivalent of Groundhog Day, BEFORE Groundhog Day was even made.

Starring Helen Slater, Jeremy Piven, Martin Landau, and "that guy from Weekend At Bernie's" (not Bernie). Here is... 12:01.

[up]Monday night and Tuesday morning, I hope?

By the way, now that we're 20 days away from Christmas, I wanted to open the floor to thoughts and suggestions for holiday entertainment to watch in the coming days, starting on Monday, perhaps.

If anyone has any preferences for any terrible holiday-related entertainment (be it anything we haven't seen or have already seen), feel free to holler and let your thoughts be known.

At the moment, the only things I have in mind are revisiting Christmas in Wonderland from last year (for its baffling cast ensemble) and venturing into parts unknown with Silent Night Deadly Night 3 and other sequels that came after "Garbage Day". And, as is tradition, The Star Wars Holiday Special is on Christmas Eve.

Trapped in Paradise, which is actually pretty good, and Jingle All the Way, which really isn't and which I think you guys have mentioned before.

And I remember we saw Ernest Saves Christmas before.

Oh, the Barbie Nutcracker movie thing is actually kinda cool, for being, y'know, a Barbie movie. I dunno if you've seen that, but it could be fun.

Can't really think of anything else off the top of my head. A Tuna Christmas, which is a sequel to Greater Tuna, is a play that has a really good taped version, although I think it's kind of obscure.

Okay, first we're settling down with a few minutes of Lowtax and Shmorky, and, in honor of the news I read that Lenny Henry has just been knighted, I'm delighted to find that there are episodes of the British series Chef on YouTube for our comedic pleasure (this may be region blocked outside the US, though).

Then, at the top of the coming hour, it's deja vu all over again in the sci-fi B-movie 12:01.

Last day before we ease ourselves into the Christmas season, and we're heading to the polar extreme for some brutal1980's slasher fare at a summer camp... with special makeup and effects by Tom Savini and an appearance by a young Jason Alexander... with hair!

Prepare for... The Burning.

[up] Is that the one with Trogdor?

I have a suggestion for our pre-shows this holiday season. This special was lost for years, but recently turned up on You Tube - and as you can see, it's perfect material for us.

And remember... this aired on TV!

I'm not gonna be able to appear tonight. I have to finish correcting some typos and words in my final report until Thursday, so, I'll be a bit busy. Enjoy the movie and the week, everyone.

Anyway, here we go. We're looking back on Lowtax and Shmorky playing Unity Engine games and more of Legends of the Hidden Temple to get us fired up for The Burning, starting at the top of the coming hour.

'Tis the season, and, lo and behold, I've uncovered a lesser-known Christmas-themed rip-off of Groundhog Day that even goes so far as to "star" a lesser-known former 'Saturday Night Live' cast member, to boot!

So what happens when Jay Mohr takes the role of the Christmas Grinch who pays a holiday visit to his ex-wife, and his estranged son wishes Christmas could come every day? Go on, take a guess. The movie definitely ain't hiding anything, going so far as to title itself Christmas Do-Over.

And this short scene, setting up part of the starting premise before the "Groundhog Day" Loop takes effect, is the closest thing I can find in lieu of an actual trailer...

How many Christmas-related specials and movies have there been where someone wishes it was always Christmas, and it backfires on them?... I can think of quite a few...

Incidentally, if you decide to show the special I posted above, could someone tell me beforehand? It's something I don't want to miss out on.

As if I needed another reason to hate finals week!

Also I got a surf rock compilation recently and in the album art it includes a whole bunch of surf related B-Movie covers. This one was my favorite: "TRUE EXPOSE: NYMPHO WIVES! WE RAIDED THE BORDELLO OF BORED WOMEN AND THEIR ILLICIT LOVERS"

[up][up]What on Earth were you trying to do?

[up]What's the album? I'm curious to see this?

I also need to point out now that Retsupurae's latest riff on a peculiar IndieGogo project needs serious attention, though I should warn that you'd be most comfortable when watching this in your own privacy (in other words, NSFW). The dawning of a new age in virtual reality is finally upon us.

[up] Surf Age Nuggets. Box set of surf rock tracks I've never heard of. If I have the time this week, I can take some pictures of the liner notes for your viewing pleasure.

PS: It isn't actually a movie poster, unfortunately. It's a magazine cover, so NYMPHO WIVES! probably won't be coming to a coven near you any time soon.

PPS: Found an old ebay listing for the issue in question (Borderline NSFW)

Alright, first up to get us in our groove, we got Retsupurae and Lowtax and Shmorky.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Jay Mohr is a poor man's Bill Murray in a VERY poor man's Groundhog Day in Christmas Do-Over. Lord have mercy.
