Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatWell, there's a lot, but Nightmare Before Christmas is the first thing that comes to mind. Particularly, Jack's Obsession and Poor Jack are my favorites.
Welcome to th:|Ooh, that's tough. Are we doing just songs or can we include parts of the film score?

I treat all living things equally. That is to say, I eat all living things
Don't forget Under the Sea. Which is about how awful the surface is with all it's hard labour and what-not compared to the laid back and do nothing life of the sea dwellers.
Which opens quite a few questions about merman society...
I'm having to learn to pay the priceBeauty and the Beast
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Mulan
Princess and the Frog
Aladdin
Lion King
Little Mermaid
... basically, any 2d animated Disney musical released in the last 20 years.

Honestly, I couldn't pick just a handful! Disney has now created an entire library of songs I absolutely adore. That one above I picked because it's a very unconventional song for a very unconventional Disney film!

I have a few unconventional favorites...
"Fathoms Below." Not so much for the song itself as for what it represents. Most of you are probably too young to remember...I was 12 when The Little Mermaid hit theaters, and the sheer joy of seeing Disney return to its fairytale roots and its status as the #1 animation studio in the world was phenomenal. Those opening oboe notes are the Disney Renaissance to me.
"Looking For Romance." AKA "I Bring You a Song." Possibly the most sensuous love song in the Disney canon, with its Latinesque opening and operatic vocals.
"Perfect Isn't Easy." Disney wasn't the first to draw a comparison between a pampered show animal and a Hollywood/Broadway diva...but they may have been the first to write such a charmingly over-the-top song to illustrate the fact...and to get Bette Midler to sing it.
"The Egg Travels." Forgettable movie, kickass musical theme.
Seconded.
I seem to be one of the few people who enjoyed Dinosaur. I have to say, it has a great soundtrack.
I treat all living things equally. That is to say, I eat all living thingsdoes this count? it was cut but it's still awesome snuff out the light Hit it Yezma!
With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.I know that this is assumed logic but...
Fantasia scores are cheating, right? Even if Rhapsody in Blue is an abridged version.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceOh man, I gotta choose?
Well, I guess I'll try and make it only my standout favorites, picking from the generic Disney song genres!
First, since we know the villain always has the best song, my favorite Villain Song: "Friends on the Other Side." No one should be allowed to have a voice like Keith David's. Also, "ARE YOU REAAAADY" is a bit of a meme among me and my friends. Also, I love how upbeat it is in terms of villain songs. Other songs, like "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "Be Prepared" may be more menacing, but this song shows that Facilier has more than just schemes, he's got panache.
And since the Award-Bait Song is iconic of modern Disney music, my favorite sappy end credits song: "My Funny Friend and Me." Maybe I'm just a sucker for Sting, but I really like this song precisely because it isn't the usual Silly Love Song most of the Bronze Age movies end on. It's about friendship, and how good friends can not only support you when you need it best, but can even change your perspective on things. I find it a lot more meaningful than most of the usual award bait songs.
- Honorary mentions, not because they're less awesome but because they're not part of the Canon: "Your Heart Will Lead You Home", and "So Close." Both of them, because... Dayum.
Since I didn't do a Silly Love Song award bait, I should probably do a silly love song: "Evangeline." I may like The Princess And The Frog kind of a lot. But I love this one because I think it's a love song that actually succeeds at being romantic. It goes for that slow-dance jazzy feeling that sells it, plus, Ray is just so dang sincere. Peabo Bryson may be a good singer, but that sweet earnestness of Ray's is what makes this song come alive.
- Narrowly beat out: "Bella Notte." Because while this song is just as romantic, it's not being sung by the enraptured lover in question.
The song wherein the main character expresses what they want: "Strangers Like Me." Not sung by Tarzan, but it fits the mold. I like it because of how nicely it fits his character. Also, it's got that great, cheery beat to it that makes it feel more like a pop song than a musical number, but that's OK in my book, because it really captures the feel of discovery well.
The sassy song, in which a (typically) sidekicky character shows their disconnect from reality: OK, so "Why Should I Worry?" is pretty good, but I gotta give this one to "Won't Say I'm in Love." "Oooh, gospel doesn't belong in ancient Greece!" Yeah, whatever. This song's awesome. The choir, Susan Egan's bitter yet blushing performance, it rocks. ...And yes, in my books, this is a "Sidekick Doesn't Get It" song. Because she doesn't get it.
Favorite sad song: "God Help the Outcasts." Hunchback is, to put it lightly, a weird movie from Disney, particularly in that it's so buddy-buddy with the topic of religion. This song could almost be a hymn at times. But the fact that it's so philosophical and spirit is kind of what endears it to me, despite not being particularly religious. It's a rather powerful message, and sort of entreats the listener to do something nice for somebody else by showing all the people praying only for themselves, and then showing the poor and outcast Esmerelda forgoing her own prayers and instead asking for others.
Favorite badass song: Do you even have to ask?
Favorite Expository Theme Tune: "Winnie-the-Pooh." Everything about this song just screams "childhood." The simplicity of the tune, the word choice, the cheery nature, and even the setting it builds. This is a song that you want to cuddle with.
Favorite instrumental: "Short Hair." To me, this track is HSQ in aural form. It starts out as the usual sad movie score sort of thing... sad violins, high, wailing reed... and then, all of a sudden... WHOAMAGM WHAT THE CRAP WAS THAT?! Suddenly we're in the Eighties! In China! And it rocks! And then it mixes movie-score horns and that synth and you just feel pumped.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI don't know, are they? Are songs from Sleeping Beauty cheating?
I just realized how weird it is that I even came up with any Disney songs I can consider my "favorites." That's usually a difficult word with me. In honor of the release of Brave I've been listening to nothing but Disney and Pixar soundtracks this week, at work and on the bus. So I've had plenty of opportunity lately to think about the ones I really like.
They're kind of cheating since they're adapted songs and not original creations.
I'm a big fan of the villain songs so stuff like Hellfire and Friends on the Other Side are among my favorites.
For my money, "Mother Knows Best" is the best Villain Song so far. Not that "Friends On the Other Side" isn't also awesome, but Gothel's hypocritical smarm just adds another layer of villainy.
I love Friends on The Other Side, not only cause it looks and sounds spectacular, but it's also funny to listen to, while imagining Goliath do that number.
If you wanna PM me, send it to my mrsunshinesprinkles account; this one is blorked.- He Mele No Lilo (Lilo & Stitch),
- Why Should I Worry (Oliver & Company),
- Son of Man (Tarzan),
- Reflection (Mulan),

Meet the Robinsons has a nice soundtrack...nicely quirky yet heartwarming...
Friend like me, I wanna be like you...
I treat all living things equally. That is to say, I eat all living thingsI've had "Son of Man" stuck in my head for a while.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Be Prepared is probably my favorite Disney song there is. Just cause Scar is such a badass.
Easy street has no parking signs.
A song I'm looking for sounds superficially like this one and I think it is a Disney Song. I can't find it though, so I figured if I started an appreciation thread it would inevitably show up.
