Fixing lewdness issues

Go To

This thread is for cleaning up pages that violate the No Lewdness, No Prudishness policy.

Do not use this thread for reporting pages that need to be cut for violating The Content Policy. Report pages that appear too lewd or gushy to have on the wiki using the "Report Page" button on the sidebar, with the checkbox saying "The page may violate the Content Policy" checked. That will create a thread on the Content Violation Discussions subforum. The thread will be opened by a mod if the report is valid, and if it's deemed necessary, the page will be cleaned according to the Content Policy. (The list of pages that were deemed problematic can be found on The Content Policy's page.)

No Lewdness:

"Lewdness" is more than just being about something sexual or potentially sexual. Here are some signs of lewd writing:

  1. Personal opinions on hotness. Examples should stand on their own without the introduction of YMMV material. Adding your own thoughts and feelings on an example is an opinion, same as calling an example good or bad. Don't do it. Don't try and extend your feelings to a larger group of fans either, e.g. "...and fangirls everywhere rejoiced". You're not fooling anyone.
  2. Overly detailed examples. The example doesn't need to be an exact sensory account of the event. Too much of that and you end up sounding like you're writing porn. When in doubt, drop a few adjectives.
  3. Unrelated fanservice mentions. If the hot bits aren't related to the example, they don't belong in the example.
  4. Pornographic writing. If you're writing porn, it should be somewhere other than the wiki. Keep it Family Friendly.
  5. Titillation links. Tell, don't show. We don't need screen shots to illustrate NSFW fanservice. If a reader is really curious, they can go look it up on Google. (See also Weblinks Are Not Examples.)
  6. Pedo gushing. We don't need to describe children sexually. This should be cut immediately. We're not interested in hosting pedophilia fantasies. Period. If a work contains children having sex, even if portrayed negatively, report it as a potential violation of The Content Policy using the "Report Page" button in the sidebar.
  7. Talking about actors instead of characters. An actor is not the character they play. When you're writing an example about a work, refer to the character, not the actor. This applies to non-sexual references, but too often it's tropers writing about how they find certain actors hot. That doesn't fit in character examples.
  8. Thinking a page with a Not Safe for Work subject is license to be lewd. Even when we discuss porn, we are about just stating the facts.
  9. Fanfic Recs for underage sex. We will not host any recommendation for fics that have explicit sex involving people apparently or actually younger than 16. Period. We categorically do not recommend fics with sex in which at least one participant:
This applies even if all parties are underage.

No Prudishness:

  1. Don't cutlist or gut pages just because they're about sexual topics. Sex exists. It's used in media a lot. You'll just need to cope with that fact. Relationships, fanservice, and sexual activity all fall into their own tropes as a result.
  2. Don't be a Bluenose Bowdlerizer. We're not looking to censor all sex off the wiki. If the sex and sexuality is an honest part of the work and relevant to the example, it belongs there.
  3. The wiki is not rated G. We aren't sanitizing the wiki for small children. Sex and sexuality are part of media and we aren't going to ignore them. This wiki is Family Friendly, not Unsupervised Small Child Friendly. This isn't an excuse to make work pages dirtier than the work itself, as the above No Lewdness section makes clear, but neither is it an excuse to make those pages cleaner than the work itself.

We don't do wick cleanups just for the sake of them. Wick repair is a very work intensive process and without someone committed it won't get done at all.

Putting this out there in advance, so that I don't create a page for it that will eventually be removed.

Unwilling Service is a Pokemon ficseries I'm writing, which involves three Trainers having certain body parts enlarged, and from there, being rendered completely naked and getting molested every now and then. They themselves are teenagers, there is no actual sex, but so far, Ellen and May have each been fondled by someone younger than themselves. Before that, May also winds up escorting a young swimsuit-clad boy through a forest while completely naked herself for the first time.

Here are all three stories that are currently taking place simultaneously:

Ellen: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8133320/1/Unwilling-Service-Ellen-s-Quest

Jimmy: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8870021/1/Unwilling-Service-Jimmy-s-Quest

May: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9584819/1/Unwilling-Service-May-s-Quest

Any word on whether that story would be appropriate for TV Tropes or not?

Not sure if I was supposed to post here before removing it, but I removed a recommendation for the fanfic Freedom off of FanficRecs. The Loud House because it was added by the author, and if I understood the author's note correctly, features NSFW content involving a minor (Lincoln's eleven).

I'd like to ask whether this Play-by-Post Game and Forum Role Plays, Anime Female Wrestling, also known as AFW (here's the link), is safe enough to have it's own page or not. It's a long-running roleplaying forum about female wrestling. It also contains quite a lot of adult contents as well as explicit sex scenes. While normal wrestling matches are prevalent there, the more risque matches, also known as hentai matches, also exist. Even so, none of the characters depicted there are under eighteen.

Still, there's also kawaii wrestlers (an equivalent of cruiserweight) who appear small and cute even though they're also eighteen and above.

EDIT: Whoops, I guess this one should go to review thread.

So I already posted this up on the Trope Repair Shop before I was directed here as a potentially more appropriate spot to raise the concern in regards to the Ephebophile trope page.

This page really doesn't seem to serve a purpose on the site or contribute much beside naming the term, distinguishing it from pedophile in a weirdly specific and defensive manner, and then listing a whole heap of quotes, some of which involve underage rape.

It's a bad look, and it does nothing for us. We don't have a pedophile page, and I don't see why this one should get a free pass. I suggest we just get rid of it.

[up] We use it to talk about characters who are. We have to put a difference between that trope and Would Harm a Child (who is used for pedophiles).

Alternatively, we could make it a full out trope and list examples there.

I believe it used to be a full trope page before it was wiped clean and locked. I'm just wondering what purpose it serves even if it's just meant as a category to put things under. Not everything needs a trope, and I don't feel this does. It just looks to me like it will invite, and has already invited, all sorts of unpleasantness. Just a cursory glance at the quotes will tell you this:

"You're so sexy... *nosebleed* I can't wait to rip all your clothes off, mount you, and rock your world! *horny panting* I'll ride you like a racehorse!!! Oh, this is going to be so much fun!!!"

That's directed at a 13 year old character.

I prefer that option to your first suggestion, sure.

I just don't see much cause for keeping the page in general, it seems like a needless distinction from Would Hurt a Child in general.

I see that's the case, but I still don't see why this page needs to exist if we're going to cut it down to almost nothing anyway so that it meets standard.

This page feels like a left-over from before the big clean-up effort, and not really something that needs its own Trope. It just feels in bad taste.

Not quiite the right spot, this thread is more about ongoing progress on a task (as goes the projects forum), but decisions are made in that thread over in Content Violation Discussions. So just post there for extra attention to discussion.

Just stopping by to say that I agree with cutting the quotes page. And every other page that quote is associated with.

I'm thinking we should clean up Intercourse with You. It's a legitimate, common trope, and I want the page to stick around. I don't even want it to get an Example Sectionectomy. Writing about songs that are about sex can be done properly, and how can I object to the trope itself when I myself am an avowed fan of Steel Panther and This is Spın̈al Tap? But the thing is, some of the examples get gushy and go overboard on description, which isn't for a site that aims to be Family Friendly. Some of them even include tidbits about musicians' actual sex lives; that's definitely not for this site. I'd really appreciate some help.

I found an example on Pokémon Anime - Original Series Cast that seems to be worded in a fairly questionable manner.

Ms. Fanservice: Out of Ash's female friends, she has the skimpiest outfit and she has been in multiple◊ bikini◊ scenes◊ and as a mermaid. Also Masamitsu Hidaka, one of the directors of the anime, has stated that Ash's female companions basically serves as eye candy for the boys. She's also stated to be ten, making things extra kinky.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with pointing out that a kid in an anime for kids is intended to be fanservice for those kids but "She's also stated to be ten, making things extra kinky." is probably not the kind of commentary TV Tropes approves of, right?

The Contemptible Cover example section could use some good scrubbing. Too many of them violate the Weblinks Are Not Examples rule, which is particularly bad here given that the content hidden behind them is often Brain Bleach-level unsafe. Content Warnings should be no excuse for this.

MonsterClown.Real Life has had, for a very long time, a link to "Ouchy the Clown"'s sex site. I've just been putting up with it, but when I read the page just now, I realized how uncomfortable that example makes me. I was just about to remove it myself, but after reading No Lewdness, No Prudishness, I had a change of heart and decided to ask first. I am pretty sure this goes against site rules, but I want to get a second opinion.
