But the majority of the The names that aren't characters actually work quite well.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickBumping for votes.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.So, we're going to YKTTW Overworld or The Overworld or whatever?
We've got enough examples that a Trope Transplant should be easy. I really just don't want a title with World Map in it if it's not going to be a subtrope of the World Map trope, and this isn't going to be. That way just confuses everyone and causes massive trope decay.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickFinal bump to see if The Overworld works.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI can't support a "The" title, especially for a term such as "Overworld" which tends to mean "anything that isn't a bonafide dungeon".
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Small Scale Overworld would probably work well.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI'd rather have something like Scaled Down Overworld or Scale Model Overworld..."Small Scale" seems ambiguous since it could also mean an overworld that only covers a small area.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Overworld Not to Scale. Blah...
By the way, one distinction that should be added between FFWM and Hub Level is that here, the pretty much sole function of the map is for travelling between A and B. There are (usually) no shops or NPC's to interact with, no scripted plot events that take place directly on the map itself; only the discrete areas inside it.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.The scripted plot events bit is untrue. Those are actually fairly common. They just tend to only consist of you being told which direction you're supposed to go to get to the next area.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickNo, we're just not using that term the same way. I'm referring mainly to Cut Scene type interaction that triggers while you're wandering around. And again, you generally don't find NPC's or shops directly on the map itself - they are located in a separate (and usually easily spotted) area on the map.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Yeah, I know what you're talking about. There are often cutscene type things that are triggered that tell you where to go. Sometimes they're along the lines of "Oh no, the bridge we just approached is out. We need to go around." Sometimes they're "Look! The castle is being attacked. We need to get there soon." I've seen a lot of them.
I agree about the NPCs and shops. Just not the cut scenes. I've seen too many of them triggered on this sort of overworld to think they don't exist.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI added those new names. I don't care much which gets picked - I'm just glad The Overworld is finally out of the lead.
Not for long :(
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Overworld Not to Scale seems to be in the lead.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWelp, does the above work?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerIt does and this crowner has been going on for months. I'm calling it.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDone:
- Renamed article, old title now redirects.
- Added runner-up, Traversible World Map, as a redirect.
- Whacked the description in the process to make clear the agreed definition.
- Took a major chainsaw to the examples; most of them (especially "platformer" and "western style") belonged under Point-and-Click Map anyway.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.That just leaves the wick clean up.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWhat are we going to do with the name World Map? Disambig? It doesn't really fit as a redirect to this specific subtrope.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Disambig I think since it's a term that's used in game to refer to a lot of different tropes. We should list all the video game map tropes.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI remember we have a trope about world maps that show off someone's ambitions. Disambiguate with that?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah, any tropes about maps of the world should be there. Might as well disambig it all.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe old PA crowner voted for "Super-Trope for all Video Game world maps", but I agree that a hard disambig is probably the better option.
