Hey, now, you're going to have to be more specific on those mod nicknames. ;)

The first line on my contributer page is "Not to be confused with cocoa, either the drink or the programming language."

Maybe I should TRS myself as having an Ambiguous Name?

Created Tropers.cocoa. cool I'm on a roll with creating mod redirects lately.

Summary of what we have so far, based on my lousy memory:

  • ad-free forums (already have) for $20
  • badges
    • flags
    • holidays
    • (mod-given ones, but these wouldn't generate any profit)
    • donation badges
    • seasonal badges
    • pay extra, make your own badge and let others use it
  • avatars
    • up to 40 free, $5 per page after
    • ability to pin an avatar to a post for a...point? token?
  • other forum extras
    • preview button
    • all hexadecimal colors
    • more smilies; perhaps we can pay extra to create our own smileys
    • background color (shot down by the Fast One)

I assume the avatar pinning and badge pinning will work by the $5/get 5 'pins' or whatever method.

The mod given badges are more to create enthusiasm for the badge system, and thus the buying of badges while also encouraging hard work. Thus it is a two pronged benefit.

If we can decide how large we want the badges, I can start working on them.

I think 32 px square would be fine...I'd actually like the herald and engineer badges to go back to being that size, they're a little fancy to be shrunk down to 16x16 and still look good.

wait, why are we making people pay for a number of pins?

I'm assuming this was argued about, so could someone link to that page?

[up][up][up]EDIT:Mine took longer, but is a bit more comprehensive. wink

Putting a limit on avatars/charging for extra slots, badges, "pinning" avatars, additional text options, and "other/less discussed items" are the ideas we have seriously discussed from the time when I started following the thread. These topics have come down to:

  • Avatars
    • Number of free/number you can buy
      • Most think one page (40 avatars) is plenty for free
      • Pruchasing 1 additional page at a time
      • Pruchasing unlimited avatars
    • $ per purchase
      • $5 per page
      • $?? for unlimited ($30 had no real objections)
    • How often you are charged for the extra avatars
      • Current ad removal is 4 months, so...
  • Badges
    • Mod-given
      • (needs list of reasons)
    • Purchased for own use
      • Hey! I hang out in _____ forum!
      • Seasonal
      • Other (interest and personaity related come to mind)
    • Purchased to give to someone else
      • I really like the service to the forum you have provided. Here is a badge/cookie to show my appreciation.
      • Linked to the giver (so everyone know who gave the person a badge) or just totaled?
    • Prices
      • one time purchase
      • $10 for 5
    • Special badges for general donations of $X amount
    • Badge galery
    • Can only display 2
  • Pinning avatars
    • To a post
    • To a thread
    • Buy a "box" of pins to use whenever you want to for $__
  • Additional text options
    • Access to the full hexadesimal collor options
    • Additional text formats/fonts
    • No prices discussed
  • Other
    • More/Custom smilies
    • Colored usernames
    • Different backgrounds
    • Other reasons for people to earn free badges.
    • How to pay for these items

Note that none of the details are finalized.

Also, no curent functionality/options will be removed if at all possible (with the exemption of unlimited avatars).

Did I miss anything? Not including the different badges we have talked about because that should be its own thread at this point/when that one is confirmed. Also, I think we should bring this post along with us (hate for someone to have to redo it at some point)... after a spell check. This version of IE does not have one >_<

If they're going on the same line as the troper's handle like where the herald icons already are, then probably make it the same tallness as the herald icons. If I had to guess, anyway.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

For reference, 16×16 is the size of the icons in the post toolbars (holler, image gallery, PM). They don't look that bad, but at the same time they don't convey much information. From my experience with Linux graphical themes, I suggest 24×24 as the minimal size to convey any information that requires letters or digits.

@Belian: Well aren't you cool. wink But yeah, that's way more comprehensive than my list.

I think we should get 3 badges, per Rule of Three. (The Heralds and Engineers get to be special and have 4?) But other than that, I like what we have so far.
