Chapter 33 has been released by Pretty Anon, coinciding with an update to the releases page that adds several volume batches. Now that is fast.

So I read the first 5 chapters of this (I'm in a romcom mood lately, dunno why). Really fun and refreshing so far. To sum up my thoughts:

  • A romcom with adult protagonists? And NO little sister?! What kind of joke is that?
  • Are there only girls included in this exchange program?
  • Half-human hybrid girls fall in love way too easily. But on the other hand, I guess their forwardness spares us a bazillion chapters of What Is This Feeling?
  • It's interesting that the stature of the girls (Papi's petite size or Cerea's huge breasts) are given a "biological" explanation.
  • How long is Miia's tail anyway? =[ In some scenes it seems to be 6 or 7 meters long, but in others barely 3 or 4 meters.
  • The girls are pretty and all, but on some shots… well, I'll let an expert speak. Ah, well, I'm nitpicking there.
  • Ms. Smith is pretty carefree for a government official, isn't she. Anyway, she's hilarious.
  • I wonder if Cerea's Antiquated Linguistics in the English scans are really accurate at times… I'm not an expert at old English though.
  • If this is the Bleached Underpants version, what was the non-bleached version like exactly? —'.`—
  • I can't seem remember the MC's name… maybe because nobody calls him by his name, dammit! <.<
  • Also, hum… i-is the MC still alive after 30 chapters? .−. I would say he's gonna be accidentally killed by one of the girls or die from starvation before long. That's some pretty dangerous harem there.

@Lyendith: I think it's not that there are only girls, but that there are more female-only races of monster girls, like lamia and harpies, and centaur women have pretty good reasons to leave their countries, I'd say.

The explanations actually check out, I'd say, and Papi and Cerea aren't the half of it. Wait until you see some of the other biological research Okayado did.

Miia's tail is exactly long as it has to be for scenes, but I think her official information page puts it at 7m.

As far as the Antiquated Linguistics... are you reading the official Seven Seas publication or fan scans? This is a very important question.

The unbleached version had explicit sex, and also wasn't specifically about these characters, but (presumably) other members of the exchange program. Though since sex and marriage are prohibited at the current time, the original short comics are presumably set in the future.

Kimihito's name is actually pretty funny. It's written 来留主公人, which means 'master of the house people come to stay at', and the last three characters of his name (the -su from Kurusu and the kou and jin from Kimihito) are very similar to 主人公, which means 'main character'. The descriptive names don't stop with the girls!

It's been fun.

I'm reading the scanlations, as I don't have access to any official translation anyway (living in France and all). Why, are there drastic differences?

And lol at the MC's name. XD "主人" also means "master" or "husband" for that matter… (yeah, Japanese uses the same word for both even in the modern era, it's kind of unsettling)

I chalk up the variability of Miia's tail's length to impressive extensibility/compressibility of her vertebrae in the snake half of her body.

A romcom with adult protagonists? And NO little sister?! What kind of joke is that?
Well, actually, Miia and Papi are around 17-18. They're all probably college-age, I think, so between 17 to early 20s.

@Lyendith: The official translations are pretty bad. Ridiculous puns everywhere, terrible Archaic Linguistics, and the back of volume 6 calls a character you haven't met yet, who isn't even part of the harem, a whore.

It's been fun.

About the only change that's considered good by most people is changing "Monsters of a Neuro" into "Monster Ops: Neutralization". Everything else is either Love It or Hate It, or just plain hate it.

Just to give one example of how bleached these underpants truly are: I don't think Kimihito is going to be fisting Centorea any time soon.

[up][up][up] I see. surprised It just seemed to me that their were confusions with thou/thee, thy/thine, and such in the scans…

(but wait… isn't that bad news for Jitsu wa's official releases…?)

[up] Oh.Th-That makes sense. evil grin

Can't see it (silly Mangafox), but let me guess: that's the page with "Meer" or some shit, right? Yeah, no one likes them. Not only do they not sound as nice, but it ruins the pun-tastic nature of the names.

Anyway, caught myself up. Amazing to see the scans actually up to date for once. And the next chapter looks interesting too, with the focus on Mero and all. Glad to wait another 3 months for this chapter to get translated. tongue

Well… there's only Meer that looks a little odd actually. Centaurea and Sue make more sense, and Papi is Papi. But I never liked double i's, so I think I'll use either Meer or just Mia. =[

"Centaurea" actually is quite stupid-sounding; it's like a woman from the US, the UK, or Australia having the given name of "Womann" or "Humana". At least "Meer" has precedent in anime, as the given name of Meer Campbell from Gundam SEED Destiny, and "Sue" is an actual name in English.

Okay, the point after 13 chapters.

  • Now that's a badass entrance for the MON squad. Didn't really expect to see a zombie in the bunch though… there are plenty of fantastical creatures but until now they were, well… living creatures. —'.`— Also, "Zombina"… I know the names in this series are pretty straightforward, but this just sounds lazy (but so does "Centaurea" I guess…?)
  • How did Manako walk 2km in a couple of minutes…? From the top of a building? With a BFG in her arms? ò.Ô And why does she have two eyebrows? @.@
  • A bunch of perverted pigs that assault a doujin shop and demand that all hentai becomes Orc-themed… I don't think there's any mean-spirited innuendo, but the author seemed to poke fun at something here…
  • Smith is useless, yet she's surrounded by hypercompetent underlings and colleagues. Go figure.
  • So Mero is some kind of… reverse Yandere? The fact that the mermaids' gills make them look like anorexic girls makes her even creepier, somewhat.
  • Poor Mia seems to become more high-strung with each new harem candidate. Not that I can blame her…
  • That nursing session was… something. ò.Ô And yet it kind of worked, for once.
  • How does Sue work anyway? She needs a lot of water, but mustn't be immersed in large pools of water, basically?

Yeah, Sue needs a controlled intake of water that is proportional to her level of activity; the more she uses her more radical powers (e.g. shapeshifting her entire body to mimick someone's appearance), the more water (and persumably, water-soluble nutrients) she'll use up, requiring her to replenish it. Dump her into a big enough pool of water all of a sudden, and her body will lose its cohesion for quite some time; do it in a practically unbounded body of water or force her to stand under heavy rainfall while unprotected, and she'll actually dissolve to death.

-raises hand- She's called Miia in the official translations. I'm looking at my copies of volumes 1-4 right now.

Responses on the newest update from Lyendith:

  • Names are straightforward to make it easier to remember who's who. I had issues remembering which character is which creature in Rosario + Vampire at times. The Punny Name for each character here gets rid of that issue [lol]
  • Manako is very, very fast. And she really has 2 eyebrows? O.o
  • Not poking fun at anything I believe. Unless he's poking fun at eroge fans asking for more specific fetishes.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick man.
  • She's a Netorare fan.
  • "HE'S MINE!!!!1!" - Miia's thoughts
  • Yeaaaah
  • MarqFJA said it best.

@RedSavant: Guessing you're referencing the "Headless Whoresman" comment?

Orcs are big in the amateur rape porn community as pig men that rape things.

So the joke is that in this monster filled world there are real orcs but instead of being a fully realized people that surely must have culture and such, they are basically just the doujin version of orcs and who are mainly concerned with having more of the doujin version of orcs happen.

One wonders what their lives were like before they discovered the doujin industry. Did they have dreams and aspirations? A rich and complex oral history consisting 99% of banging beautiful things?

@Lyendith: Yeah, the official translator doesn't know how to use thee or thou any more than the fan translators do - but the group that's been doing it at least makes an effort, if I remember right. I can't recall any really bad usages of it.

@Nocturne: Yeah, 'headless whoresman' is the comment I meant. Not only is it not funny, it's also wrong in a host of different ways.

Regarding orcs, didn't we have someone in here rage quit after the chapter with male centaurs?
