She could be assuming women interested in learning to shoot will learn things like cleaning a gun on their own. Most guns still come with manuals that include disassembly and cleaning instructions. Guns are thankfully a lot more simple then a car.

As for why snubs? Compact easily drawn frame for a revolver. If you are going for snub I would say go for nothing smaller then a .357 Magnum if you can get it a hammerless one with low profile sight. The same reason she mentions the calibers for semi-auto that are preferable and that they come in compact frames. If you are talking about the site overall they should cover it more.

Now that I am home give me a bit to poke over the site.

Ok I have gone over both sites in more detail. From what I can see Gabe you need to chill a little bit and actually go through the site in detail it covers quite a bit of what you are concerned with. They cover everything from unique carry concerns for women including larger women, holster selection, offer links to find ranges and instructors, tips on how to buy and deal with male sales men who have their own mindset on fire arms, dealing with well meaning family members and friends when it comes to finding a gun, safety, home defense, cover shot guns, what a good grip is, going over ammo, mention the importance of needing to clean your gun more then once, tips on stances, grips, and other useful info.

They suggest either compact revolvers or semi-autos because they conceal more easily and ear more easily handled.

The way you make it sound like they skip everything and here is who can help here is some info.

I am honestly having a hard time finding your claim to sexism as the vast majority of the site is straight up no bullshit discussion.

The other link was informative but it skips a lot of things covered by the other site and loses points for the hydrostatic shock myth.

Both sites don't give the full range of detail I would personally prefer but I am not exactly brand spanking new to fire arms either.

You're also not a woman who has gone into shows and stores and had people ask "Where is your husband/father" or begins grilling me about if I know if it's illegal to buy a gun on behalf of my thug boyfriend or not.

You've also not gone up to a counter and asked to see a larger gun only to have the dealer tell you, "Oh that's not for little ladies like you. This will fit in your purse so much easier." Or if they do acknowledge you, they immediately offer the pink one.

You walk into a store or show being a man and former military, you're fine. They probably don't even card you until the last moment. One of my best friends went in in goddamn texas of all places because she wanted to see what it was I was talking about when we were discussing one of my rifles. She couldn't get anyone to pay attention to her and when she pitched a fit, the guy told her to let her husband deal with it.

So no. I'm not going to chill.

If you want more women in the gun scene as responsible members, then you need to stop acting like they need special treatment. They don't. Basic education needs no gender. Especially when we still get plenty of crap from the men on the ground.

Hang on, you two.

Gabe: Yes there's a whole fucking lot of sexism in the gun culture. Lord knows, I've come in for my share of it. But finding sexism in the website because it's in the gunshop is kind of unfair. Yes, the site mentions some of the same things that the "That's a mighty big gun for a little lady" jackdaws do, but by addressing what women are likely to encounter, it also provides ammo(heh) for countering that jackdawry when it's encountered in Real Life. Nothing that's put on a website is going to change the guy who asks where your man is at the gunshop. What it gives you is the information you need to back up "My man isn't buying this gun. I am. Now, here's what I'm looking for in the gun, and I believe that X Y or Z is what I want. Let's start there." You're looking at that website as a woman who has been around guns all her life. You aren't really the intended audience. It's more for women who haven't always been around guns, for whom guns are something foreign to their experience that they need or want to learn about, but aren't confident about. Look at the subtitle of the whole site: "where the feminine and firearms meet". That right there tells you that this is not going to be straight up gun info, that's it's geared to address people who go by the the social concept of "femininity", with all its nasty baggage. Which means there's a lot of reassurance that "It's not really so complicated" and "You can do it" going on that comes across as condescending and sexist to you because you don't need to hear that anymore. Lots of women do need to hear it, though.

Teuf: As much as I hate playing the "you don't see it because it doesn't touch you" card, in this case, it's the one that needs to be played. There is lots and lots of casual sexism in the gun culture that women have to deal with that men don't. Back when I first found the guns in the house — remember? I asked several of the men I know who are shooters to recommend a range where I wouldn't have to deal with that selfsame "little lady" crap I mentioned to Gabe. They all recommended couple of places, with the same one as their first choice. So I went to that one first. And walked straight into a morass of exactly that kind of crap. Subtle, but very definitely present. The first assumption they made was that of course, I was going to sell the big guns and buy a cute little purse pistol. The second one was that I wasn't serious about learning, that I was just having a phase. Now, did the guys who recommended this place steer me wrong deliberately? No, they didn't. They simply had not seen that it was there because it never happened to them. They really thought it wasn't there.

You two are looking at the site through two different sets of experiences. Two different sets of eyes. And that means you're seeing different things in it.

Gabe: Where did I say none of that exists outside of that site? No where. Don't put words in my mouth. None of what you just posted has anything to do the site.

You can get bent out of shape about gun culture at large it is warranted but it has nothing to do with what I just posted or is even present on the site that you chose to get worked up over in the first place.

The only grave sin I can find for that site is it is concealed carry centric for carrying.

Maddy: I pointed out the sites no where did I mention gun shops or gun culture. Last I checked we were discussing the sites. Those sites address a lot of the lack of information you faced in the first place and far better then we covered in this thread. The site by the way includes links to instructors who won't make assumptions about you if they are in your area. Nowhere on that site does it support the attitude you experienced and even snarks at it a bit.

Double Barrel Ar-15 going into production I don't understand the odd obsession with double barrel weapons on semi-autos. I get it for one shots but why semi-autos?

"In the meantime, imagine this: running a 3-gun stage with this double-barreled AR-15, Arsenal’s double-barreled 1911, and a side by side coach gun. Wouldn’t that be a thing?"

These guys don't even know simple math. They're doubling all the barrels, so clearly you'd use a 4 barrel coach gun.

[up][up][up]It looks pretty damned pointless, really - extra weight and complexity for no real gain.

Both barrels offset from the centreline of the sight so neither 100% accurate (even assuming the barrels are angled so that the fire-lines intersect at a given distance)

[up]LOL. Too true.

In this case, I'm afraid I have to agree with the commenters on that article who are opposed to private firearms ownership. The article's accusation of hypocrisy falls flat, unless someone other than Godzilla wearing pants can carry a tank in their pocket, especially since the tank's weapons are disabled or removed.

Now, things like California state senator Leland Yee, a gun control advocate, being indicted for trafficking firearms, mentioned previously in this thread, are something else entirely.

Wow, what a deceptive headline and article.

1) He wanted to buy it (at auction) for a foundation he runs that places retired military hardware in a museum, not as a personal toy.

2) He's suing because he says he bought it and it wasn't delivered, but it's a lot more complicated than that (see below). During the auction, his bid was not accepted because it was lower than the reserve price, (by about a million dollars) which is a perfectly legitimate reason to not accept it.

And more: He didn't even have the high bid at the auction. There were two bids, his for 1.5M and one from another organization (not identified) for 1.7M.

Wait, there's more...

Ok, after the auction, the foundation that's suing made an offer to a representative of the the auction house, that the representative accepted. They wired the money to the auction house. The foundation director of the one that owns it said that when it didn't meet its minimum bid at the auction, it was no longer for sale, and the representative was not authorized to make the deal after the auction. The foundation also never got the money from the auction house. The auction house says it tried to return the money.

If that's the way it really happened, then he has a very weak case. Generally, unless there is a special agreement in place between the seller and the auction house, the auction house is no longer authorized to make any deals to sell the item once the auction is closed.

Huh, serves me right for not reading it properly.

It is indeed Littlefield's Pz IV. Very sadly, Jacques Littlefield died in 2009 and the MVTF had to sell off a huge chunk of the collection. I wonder if Bovington got their hands on any?

The Collings Foundation inherited the Littlefield collection, from what I can make out. Including the Panzer.

The MVTF was simply the site of the auction, and where the tank is currently stored.. Collings offered the Panzer and other pieces to raise funds to build a museum. When the tank didn't reach its reserve, and the other items raised the amount they were shooting for the decision was made to not sell the tank.

The gun will still be there, though whether it is still in fireable condition is doubtful. Plus you'd need ammo. But you'd be surprised sometimes; authorities in Kazakhstan apparently just went around all their old Soviet monuments and welded up the guns, just to be on the safe side.

My Frozen grips arrived! However, I got a request from the manufacturer to avoid putting up pics on forums and such, so here's a song instead.

Do you wanna shoot some bullets?
Come on let’s go to the range...
You never shoot me any more,
I’m really bored,
My trigger’s feeling strange!
I used to be your sidearm,
And now I’m not.
I wish you would tell me why?
Do you wanna shoot some bullets?
It doesn’t have to be a bullet…

Do you wanna shoot some bullets?
JHP or milsurp ball?
I think some trigger time is overdue,
I’ve started talking to
The Mosin on the wall!
Hа здоровье!
Just 50 rounds on paper,
Or some Mozambique.
Malfunction drills, one two three?
*sound of slide being racked repeatedly*

Owner, please I know you’re out there...
We just want you to be safe...
It’s dim and dark inside the box,
It’s getting kinda hot,
This trigger lock really chafes...
They’re talking about gun buybacks
And assault weapon bans.
Hold me, owner, I’m scared...

Sad version:
...do you wanna shoot some bullets
*cut to owner looking sadly at the Connecticut “assault weapon” confiscation notice as Feds haul gun safe out the door

Happy version:
*owner opens up box*
owner: do you wanna shoot some bullets?
