Now I'm completely unsure whether this week's Funky is just a parody or a Take That! about the dojikko archetype...
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra Nova...I eat kiwi skins.
Heh, Literature Girl made the episode for me yet again, despite the fact that I felt REALLY bad for her this time. Being a dojikko is suffering...
Also, LOL at the implications that Yoshitake's sister has a thing for Hidenori's brother.
I think that after seven episodes I finaly realised charm of library girl
You mean The Ditz. Either that, or this week's Literature Girl segment.
I'm not sure if it's "having a thing for Hidenori's brother" or "Desperately wants a boyfriend, anyone will do."
The Evil Council of Siblings amused me though.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntLit Girl and Habara and co.'s take thats are always comedy gold.
Kinda boring episode this week, aside from those. What the hell is up with all that underwear thievery?!

I loved this episode. Poor literature girl.
Also
"PRETENDING TO BE AN IDIOT WHO DOESNT EVEN KNOW COMMON KNOWLEDGE IS WHAT MAKES HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS CUTE!"
One thing that we seriously lacked in this episode was Yanagin screaming.

Read all of my fanfics!I don't think the average person can handle weekly Yuu Kobayashi awesomeness.
I did mean Funky... Probably I have misinterpreted the trope here (as many ditzzes in anime are also clumsy), but my main question is: it is plain parody, or is already a Take That!?
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaFelt like a slight Take That!.
Teasing if you will.
It can't be a parody, it's too different from your typical high-school girls show. It's really just a meta joke.
Man is it me of is the "High School Girls are Funky" segment just "Screaming: The Show"?
'Cause it's awesome.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!Its "Yuu Kobayashi Screaming: The Show", and thats awesome.
Read all of my fanfics! That say, is a "meta joke" merely a trope Played for Laughs?
On the other hand:
I have briefly reviewed the (very brief) character sketches at the anime's official website and have noticed a few things:
- Karasawa is referred as the Only Sane Man— I thought most of the Student Council are sensible people...?
- Hidenori was noted as "subverting the Smart People Wear Glasses trope as he's a baka." While he may subvert Stoic Spectacles, baka is not really talking about intelligence is it...?
- This series involves 4 high schools in the city, which is quite a lot for this genre—is there a necessity for this? Since the guys all studies at North, I'd just list the girls:
- East: Ringo (of course), Ikushima (and Motoharu's sister IIRC)
- Central: Yanagin, Tadakuni's sister, Nago-san
- West: Habara, Lit Girl
Not really. In this case, "meta" means "the trend of high school girls shows", and they're simply making jokes about those shows and their usual tropes. It's not really a trope played for laughs , it's more like a subgenre played for laughs.
I would venture a guess that the guy two of them met in the city and went to a fastfood with (the guy with his sister) is NOT studying at North, while the guy they're threatening to be Habara's boyfriend is probably their schoolmate (maybe Habara, maybe those two other girls).
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Kiyotaka, the first guy you were talking about, studies in Central. It was mentioned when they were discussing in front of the WcDonald's. (Based on school uniforms, his sister also studies in Central)
We don't know what school the second guy, Takahiro, goes to. Most certainly not in Ikushima's school though, as East is, as you know, girls' only.
There're certain rules in identifying which school they come from by uniform:
- North: Blue blazer and pants, white shirt, blue/red striped necktie.
- East: Grey blazer or sweater, khaki skirts with horizontal brown stripes.
- Central: Boys are similar to North's but with a green tie. Girls are more easily identified by wearing a red bowtie.
- West: Sailor Fuku

Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaTakahiro goes to Sanada West. He's one of Literature Girl's classmates.

Comment: 'Tis inevitable.

I wanna see this happen in the anime~
Episode 8: So-so episode. Hidenori invading his neighbor's balcony got me laughing. As well as that time they were trying to retrieve IMOUTO's bag. Second funky high school girls skit was fun too.
But the best part is: next episode: Habara's past revealed?!

Yeah, no really LOL-worthy skits, but they did elicit chuckles from yours truly.
By the way the Nago-san we saw Yanagin talking to isn't the same Nago from the pizza place, as the cast list uses a different kanji (奈古 versus 名護).

Meh first half, but it got better after the balcony skit. LOL
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.
ep 7: Another episode full of WTF's LOLOLOL
Although there's still some scenes which aren't of the same "LOLWUT levels."
