Alright, so in TRS Badass Gay came up for discussion and it was agreed that there appears to big problem with the Badass X tropes in general, which needs to be sorted out until something can be ruled on for Badass Gay.
Here's a courtesy link: TRS page. And Badass page with its subtropes. You can also visit the sandbox page here.
Noted Problems include:
- Tropes are just listings of characters people thing are badass who happen to have a certain trait. (The Badass + Trait Problem)
- Badass X as a naming scheme is actually very vague and doesn't give a lot of insight into what the character trope actually is, assuming it is a trope.
- Badass X as a naming scheme proliferates the use of Badass + Trait 'tropes'.
Suggested things to do include:
- Make it a requirement that a badass character trope means a character is "badass because of a trait", or "badass in spite of a trait".
- Renaming away from the Badass X naming scheme as much as possible.
- Cut, redefine or re-purpose things that are just Badass + trait.
There are also a lot of tropes that seem to be valid character-types, but have the naming scheme 'Badass X', when there's more to the trope than that. There are also a lot of prop or event or whatever tropes that need to be gone through as well.

- Badass Beard: Keep, though honestly I think we should just have Badass Facial Hair and merge the beard, mustache and permastubble into it.
- Badass Biker/ Biker Babe: Being a biker makes you inherently Badass. I think we just need to turn this into a biker trope, since we don't have one otherwise. Dunno if it needs on the page, though.
- Badass Blink: Has nothing to do with being badass. The Trope is "Cloaking technology can't keep up with lots of movement." I say rename and make the description have nothing to do with badasses.
- Badass Boast/ Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Keep.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Yeah, I was about to say, the badass biker thing seems like a trope, but not a trope that is one of the badass tropes.
Badass Biker is a trope, I think, because it's a common idea. But it's not really a badass trope as such. Neither is Biker Babe.
I also agree on Badass Blink.
Maybe Badass Biker could be reformatted to be about how all bikers are badass, probably renamed to Bikers Are Badass.
Really not sure about Badass Blink. I mean, its basically Stealth Hi/Bye with a cloaking device, which might be a trope, but its a horrible name.
Definitely keep Badass Boast and Pre-Asskicking One-Liner.
Badass Facial Hair might be better than Badass Beard, but keep either way. Same for Pre Ass Kicking One Liner.
Badass Blink might be a trope, I'm not sure, but it's definitely not a Badass trope.'
The Biker tropes don't belong on the index. We might need to merge them, too.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!I've been pulling stuff off of Sandbox.Badass Tropes. Also, I am back from interview.
- Badass Beard: Their facial hair is shorthand for "Don't mess with me." (I'm okay with this, but I think it might work better as a larger trope that is similar to Good Hair, Evil Hair)
- Badass Biker: Nothing says badass better than a Cool Bike. (Honestly, I'd rather split this one into the two main kinds of badasses we see on bikes. We see two, which are most often identified by the bikes they ride, the "Harly rider" and the "Ninja rider")
- Biker Babe: Distaff Counterpart (not positive on the distaff part, think it has more to do with attractiveness, but there are definitely similarities)
- Badass Blink: When a cloaking field pauses for badassery to ensue. (rename and redefine)
- Badass Boast/Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Every good badass needs a cool line about how dead they are gonna make you. (definitely keep, this is a good example of the standard activities of a badass)
I also sort of favor merging Badass Beard, Badass Mustache, and the permastubble one into a single larger trope.
Don't we have Perma-Stubble as its own article?
Fight smart, not fair.Yeah, but perhaps all three could merge.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!Dunno, I dislike doing that type of thing. I'd rather just have a slightly higher supertrope about hairstyles that are badass and just list these as subtropes.
Fight smart, not fair.It just seems pointless to have them on different pages to me when it's a matter of degree of facial hair and they mean the exact same thing. Badass mustache and Beard at least, Permastubble could probably keep it's own page.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Yeah, I see no reason to separate those two.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!I think permastubble should get its own page, personally. I don't care about the other two.
I really think they should be kept separate. Beards give a "rugged" sense, while mustaches are a bit more cultured and refined.
Well, it was a thought.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Moving along
- My Name Is Inigo Montoya: Isn't it nice for a badass to introduce themselves before they kick your ass?
- Pre-Mortem One-Liner: A badass telling what they think what they think of you. Oh wait, you're already dead.
- Badass Bookworm: Reads the encyclopedia for fun. Is also quite capable of using it to bludgeon you to death.
- Badass Bureaucrat: Master of paper shuffling and the dreaded red tape. Capable of screwing with your life in oh so many ways.
- Badass Bystander: They were minding their own business until your turned their world upside down. Now, they will make you regret that mistake.
My Name Is Inigo Montoya: this is one of those things that badasses do shortly before they start badassing it up.
Pre-Mortem One-Liner: same as above.
Badass Bookworm: contrast trope, might want a rename.
Badass Bureaucrat: again, contrast. Pencil pushers are not normally a badass.
Badass Bystander: I'm not sure I count that definition. I think this would be more about how a character is met, rather than any aspect inherent to the character.
Fight smart, not fair.Agreed, Deboss, Badass Bystander is sort of I Was Just Passing Through except they actually were. Not sure about the name, but its definitely a trope. Might be able to merge it into an existing one, but probably not.
Blagh, tired. Shouldn't be troping right now.
It definitely has a different feel than most of the badass tropes. It sounds more like a plot trope than a characterization trope.
Fight smart, not fair.I think I favor renaming Badass Bookworm.
A Badass Bystander is a subversion. Basically the innocent bystander the villain was, say, about to take hostage, unexpectedly kicks their ass before the hero can even leap in to rescue them. Sometimes they become a character, but usually they don't.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Wouldn't that be more of a hostage than a bystander? Hm, that sounds related to Mugging the Monster as well.
Anyway, I'll do the moving.
Edit: moved the stuff on Sandbox.Badass Tropes. Anyway, upon looking at it, Badass Bureaucrat is something that should be removed. It has nothing to do with badassery. It's just a bureaucrat that helps the hero get shit done.

Fight smart, not fair.Beside the point (and a bystander is someone who just doesn't have anything to do with the conflict and was just passing through, a hostage could easily be that). No one expects random no name extras to be badasses, is the subversion, anyway

Badass Biker isn't a trope, IMO. There is no contrast, in fact, everyone kind of already combines the two. Biker Babe doesn't belong in this index at all, though it is a trope.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.
