I'm not sure whether it's a good or bad thing to be taking my own tropes to Image Pickin, but I'm guessing it would be better than just changing the image without discussion.

When I used the Yoshi pic, this was because it was from the same video whose comments section gave me an idea for a page quote from this. In hindsight, Marahute from The Rescuers Down Under...

... might be better to use for a variety of reasons:
  • It is directly from a work, rather than from a hack thereof. (Potholing a hack to a work is somewhat misleading.)
  • The "giant" aspect is more immediately obvious via comparison to a human character. (Granted, the Yoshi pic has buildings, but that could just as easily be interpreted as Yoshi crawling into a Mouse World; in that context, he would still be a giant relatively speaking, but not necessarily giant in comparison to the average character.)
  • The style is much more pleasant; kid watching eagle near a nest, rather than a giant Yoshi crawling around in some streets.

That said, if anyone has any suggestions they figure are better still, please feel free to suggest them.

I watched that movie all the time as a kid and I never realized just how massive that bird must actually be...at the risk of sounding nostalgic, I support replacing the Yoshi image with that one.

[up] I thought birds were one of the kinds of animals generally agreed to be cute, though; why else would they be the main focus of so many Friend to All Living Things portrayals?

Or adult birds that aren't raptors. Normal-sized eagles are not cute.

Yeah, eagles lean more on the Badass side than "cute". They don't fit Badass Adorable either.

That's odd, I thought they too were considered cute.

In any case, as I already said in the OP, please feel free to propose further alternatives.

Clifford The Big Red Dog certainly is one of the easiest options to go with. These images were some of the first to come up on a google search.

I'm surprised I didn't think of Clifford to begin with. He's a pretty obvious example.

Raptors like that aren't cute. They're generally seen as fierce or dangerous. Song birds are the Friend to All Living Things birds.

Ehh...I have a personal distaste for Clifford for some reason, but I do concede he'd make a better example than the bird.

I still still think it's cute, though >.>...

I don't get "cute" off the eagle, whereas the Yoshi pic does the job.

The current picture does have a legitimate problem: It's from the exact source as the quote. It's also not really an example (Yoshi is not a giant in Super Smash Bros, or any other games to my knowledge; the only exception is the giant mushroom in Smash, which any character can use, and that's temporary).

I also agree that a fully grown raptor is not cute. A downy raptor chick is. I support The Clifford pic, preference on the second.

I'm supporting both Clifford pictures. The first one looks cuter but the second is sharper.

Clifford is a great example, but I'd say go with something completely different from the suggestions if possible, as both are very similar to the pic on Canis Major (the second looks like the girl and dog on a different background from that page's pic, in fact).

The current picture does have a legitimate problem: It's from the exact source as the quote.
Actually, that's a point in favour of the pic, and why I used it in the first place; it gives the quote more context. Generally speaking, I consider matching the image with a quote a good thing, such that they reinforce each other, and the benefit is more obvious than usual in this case.

Still, though, it wouldn't hurt to keep looking for alternatives. Honey I Blew Up The Kid is preferable to Clifford, since the latter is already on Canis Major.

I think being from the same source is kind of a strike against the image or the quote. If either needs "more context" it is probably weak. If separate, they are two examples instead of one.

[up] "Can be made better from more context" =/= "unacceptably bad without more context."

I suppose we could look for alternative quotes, but the idea of associating cuteness with largeness doesn't seem to be that often discussed, so I'd be surprised if we could find a suitable enough alternative.

EDITED IN: Come to think of it, the Honey I Blew Up The Kid one does not involve comparison with other characters; it only involves comparison with buildings, something the Yoshi pic already has. For the sake of presenting another alternative, here is one juxtaposing giant teddy bear Lotso with the relatively-smaller main characters.
