I don't think it was 150cc, so that might explain some of his luck. And I DO use the term luck intentionally, because Mario Kart can be one hectically random game.
And with double items, now there's even more luck involved.

I figured it had to be. That race was so slow and the opponents were so easy.

The game looks great, but I'm still a little miffed because Diddy Kong is still AWOL. I'd much rather have him than boring old Dry Bones.

While I am currently not keen on getting 8DX having played the Wii U version to death, some relatives might want me to get it and bring my Switch to family gatherings.

Despite my griping, special battle mode courses plus the Inklings make Mario Kart 8 Deluxe an insta-buy for me (or they would, if I had a Switch!). I love the original—in fact, it may be the only Mario Kart I've truly loved since 64.

Not that I didn't want to get the Wii U and Mario Kart 8, but I'm kind of glad I never wound up getting them. It makes picking up 8D an easier decision for me. (I need a Switch first, of course. 
)

The mere fact of getting 8, my favorite Mario Kart, on the go was an instant buy for me.
That, and my parents love Mario Kart. It's the only game I can get them to play.

I'd actually want to see Paper Mario characters... but still as flat paper cutouts like in Paper Jam. I'd be amazed if Nintendo actually makes them (or their "sprites") rotate while driving and the camera follows them.
As a result of this, there'd also have to be an obligatory paper/cardboard kart that looks like the standard kart but made out of paper/cardboard.

There's nothing wrong with it. I just don't like the idea.
Maybe they could add Pauline.
Some notes for 8 Deluxe.
- HD Rumble feels fantastic. Adds a lot more to the immersion that I thought it would.
- Smart Steering is turned on at the beginning.
- Boos are a really notable addition. I'm constantly losing my item now.
- Lightning feels more common, which is to be expected since more items are in play now.
- I unlocked the GLA second. Not sure if that means anything.
Feels great just like the original game was. I'm going to be playing this for a long time.

Battle Mode is great, but I'm not feeling it as much as the main races. My nostalgia for DS's Battle Mode is too strong. Though my main problem is that the arenas feel a little too big, even with 12 players. Ah well, still fun to run around popping balloons and all the other stuff.
Is it just me or did they change the item balance? I seem to be getting hit with red and blue shells way more often here than in the Wii U version.
